People on Supertopo who delete threads. It’s lame. For myself, I don't want to post to any thread a person who deletes a thread, starts. The list will be updated.

Person - Thread subject

Locker - Philo got Deactivated.

t*r = bunch of them, too many to list.

Prod - Recent gun sales

Norwegian - Gun owners piss me off.

Ron Anderson - Just got a malware warning on the Norton thread!

Yosemite 5.9 - Paul Ryan claims to have climbed X 14,000 foot high Colo. peaks. (speculation, not confirmed as it may have been the CIA that deleted it)

Jody - Obama thread.

Coz -Deleted his “BD Countdown Clock” where he called out Peter metcalf. - this is the 2nd one, had it been his first he would get the “not being a pussy” pass. We are passing on the pass now due to multiple instances.

Brandon - Why Occupiers are as#@&%es thread.

Philo - Deleted the “I’ll never post on Supertopo again cause Russ is a meany. “

Cragman - Dean, deleted the "Another dictator dead....Muammar Qaddafi" thread

Norton deleted some thread.

Seth Jackson = deleted his Wings of Steel money raiser thread.

Bluering = deleted his "Haters" thread.

Dr F. - deleted his first "Why are those Republicans so wrong on everything" thread.

Pud = Occupy protesters need to move on thread

Crazy Horse - Southern yosemite thread

Part-time communist -any hot guys around here? thread

Footloose = Mystery What's going on here?

Ron Gomez - Dave Yerian thread

Squishy -Aid gear sale, D5 hammer (for too much money) sale

iannonymous = EE questions, Expert replies appreciated.

Patrick Sawyer - Not sure what subject was.

It would be interesting to know why folks delete their threads. Thread content does not go the way they envisioned? They received the feedback they wanted/ did not want? Did not want their avatar associated with thread content? It is pretty much meaningless at the end of the day but anyone care to elaborate why they delete threads?

> Crazy Horse - Southern yosemite thread

That was back in 2009, with 107 posts.
It had a chipping discussion (aka flame war), so it got emotional and people later wished they hadn't said some things. Just trying to clean up....

It was quickly restarted and now has 2431 posts.

This could stretch this thread out a bit. There are occasionally real good reasons that entire threads get deleted by the folks who started them. Here's a few.

You don't see Pat Ament on the list, for example. Pat deleted an awesome thread he started. He had posted some beautiful photos, classic and very historic climbing shots and requested others to do the same. It was a great thread. Then someone told him that by doing so, he was giving up the copyrights to said art. Very understandably, but also very very sadly for Pat and all of us, Pat deleted it.

Nutjob once posted a temp personal request for assistance. Posted it publicly and said he was going to delete it once he got the info. And he did. Not on the list, nor is anyone who feels they need to delete a thread due to personal reasons. We've seen it with accident threads that get too nasty and preachy and someone learns something about the accident and feels horrible on what they had said. We've seen folks requesting job info cause their life is in the toilet, and we often see someone just pitching a bitch on something their significant other said to them which pissed them off so they made a terrible poor choice to go on a national forum and say nasty things - flame the poor person. Passes all. Understandable.

Coz posted "KEITH LOBER IS MTUCKER. Mtucker had been putting some nasty stuff up and angering folks here or there. The thread got real testy. Coz deleted it when it was shown he was wrong. Lober showed up, and Werner supported him, saying Mtucker was some other douchbag. Deleted. Good for Cozgrove. He made the list later, not for this one which he wisely deleted.

Thanks Clint.

Here's a question. On something like the Squamish thread, since individual posters own their material, what's to prevent someone starting a new Squamish thread and everyone unhappy with the deletion, just copying and pasting their contributions to the new thread?

Or maybe when someone deletes a thread, they've given up their right to it and the whole thing can be copied and pasted to a new thread?

As if on cue, todays geneticist newz. There is sure to be some interesting discourse on this. Please allow me to lead off. WUT DO DE MEAN I BE GETTING STUPID? So to relate it to Shockley, if diet plays an appreciable role, and Blacks in particular, but poor blacks have a worse diet, why should anyone be surprised if they, or we, are getting dumber? This should be examined carefully IMO. Please to do shocked and angry reply's now.

"Leading Geneticist: Human Intelligence is Slowly Declining

by Mike Barrett
February 17th, 2013 | Updated 02/17/2013 at 12:43 pm

Would you be surprised to hear that the human race is slowly becoming dumber, and dumber? Despite our advancements over the last tens or even hundreds of years, some ‘experts’ believe that humans are losing cognitive capabilities and becoming more emotionally unstable. One Stanford University researcher and geneticist, Dr. Gerald Crabtree, believes that our intellectual decline as a race has much to do with adverse genetic mutations. But there is more to it than that.

According to Crabtree, our cognitive and emotional capabilities are fueled and determined by the combined effort of thousands of genes. If a mutation occurred in any of of these genes, which is quite likely, then intelligence or emotional stability can be negatively impacted.

“I would wager that if an average citizen from Athens of 1000 BC were to appear suddenly among us, he or she would be among the brightest and most intellectually alive of our colleagues and companions, with a good memory, a broad range of ideas, and a clear-sighted view of important issues. Furthermore, I would guess that he or she would be among the most emotionally stable of our friends and colleagues,” the geneticist began his article in the scientific journal Trends in Genetics.

Further, the geneticist explains that people with specific adverse genetic mutations are more likely than ever to survive and live amongst the ‘strong.’ Darwin’s theory of ‘survival of the fittest’ is less applicable in today’s society, therefore those with better genes will not necessarily dominate in society as they would have in the past.

While this hypothesis does have some merit: are genes really the primary reason for the overall cognitive decline of the human race? If humans really are lacking in intelligence more than before, it’s important to recognize other possible causes. Let’s take a look at how our food system plays a role in all of this.

It’s sad, but true; our food system today is contributing to lower intelligence across the board.
The Water Supply, Fluoride is Lowering Your IQ

Researchers from Harvard have found that a substance rampant in the nation’s water supply, fluoride, is lowering IQ and dumbing down the population. The researchers, who had their findings published in the prominent journal Environmental Health Perspectives, a federal government medical journal stemming from the U.S National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, concluded that ”our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children’s neurodevelopment”.

“In this study we found a significant dose-response relation between fluoride level in serum and children’s IQ…This is the 24th study that has found this association”.

One attorney, Paul Beeber, NYSCOF President, weighs in on the research by saying:

“It’s senseless to keep subjecting our children to this ongoing fluoridation experiment to satisfy the political agenda of special-interest groups. Even if fluoridation reduced cavities, is tooth health more important than brain health? It’s time to put politics aside and stop artificial fluoridation everywhere”.

Pesticides are Diminishing Intelligence

One study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that pesticides, which are rampant among the food supply, are creating lasting changes in overall brain structure — changes that have been linked to lower intelligence levels and decreased cognitive function. Specifically, the researchers found that a pesticide known as chlorpyrifos (CPF) has been linked to ”significant abnormalities”. Further, the negative impact was found to occur even at low levels of exposure.

Lead researcher Virginia Rauh, a professor at the Mailman School of Public Health, summarized the findings:

“Toxic exposure during this critical period can have far-reaching effects on brain development and behavioral functioning.”

Processed Foods, High Fructose Corn Syrup Making People ‘Stupid’

Following 14,000 children, British researchers uncovered the connection between processed foods and reduced IQ. After recording the children’s’ diets and analyzing questionnaires submitting by the parents, the researchers found that if children were consuming a processed diet at age 3, IQ decline could begin over the next five years. The study found that by age 8, the children had suffered the IQ decline. On the contrary, children who ate a nutrient-rich diet including fruit and vegetables were found to increase their IQ over the 3 year period. The foods considered nutrient-rich by the researchers were most likely conventional fruits and vegetables.

Interestingly, one particular ingredient ubiquitous in processed foods and sugary beverages across the globe -high fructose corn syrup – has been tied to reduced IQ. The UCLA researchers coming to these findings found that HFCS may be damaging the brain functions of consumers worldwide, sabotaging learning and memory. In fact, the official release goes as far to say that high-fructose corn syrup can make you ‘stupid’.

Gene mutations may have something to do with our ongoing decline in intelligence, but let’s stop to think for a moment what we’re doing to ourselves to make this decline even more prominent."

Haha, nice catch Prod. It's probably more that I forget that kind of stuff and don't care enough to check the list, which is getting long, before I post every time. I don't have a strong set of standards either I'd suppose. Some of those guys on the list are real good folks. Booyah, PhilO, Cragman, Dr F, COZ, those guys have some amazing and deep life (and climbing) experiences. I shouldn't EVER post to one of their threads? I don't know about that. If a good dude starts an interesting thread I'll probably get sucked in:-) As far as Brandon, I forgot he'd deleted one and was on the list. I just checked and saw you on it too, I'd forgotten that as well:-)

One of the more memorable and heartfelt posts on Supertopo was the memorial Brandon did for his grandpa. He talked about how much his grandfather had accomplished in life, and how much he had meant to him. It was a deeply moving testament and touching on many levels. I remember that post, and how lucky Brandon had so much seriously good quality time with his grandfather, and not that, or even what, he deleted a thread he considered lame. So I remember Brandon as a good guy who started an amazing thread, not as the guy who deleted some thread that probably ended with Locker posting naked monkeys swingin' from the chandeliers and angry retorts by a bunch of pissed off ignorant villagers with pitchforks and torches:-)

So I'll probably keep being a tool. I'll try to be more careful, but thanks for the catch!
