yeah free locker and free The Warbler while they’re at it...
neither did anything worthy of banning, that i saw, and both contributed to this place being what it is [was?].
given the ham handed moderation that goes on around here [especially in the last couple of years] i’m left to assume that cmac and co see this place as more of an annoyance than as something with value [although i’m also sure they do see both]. and so instead of attempting to enhance what they have here [by providing more opportunities for viewer feedback (even just view counts or maybe an upvote/downvote) or user directed interface options (the ability to un/subscribe to particular threads or users)] or even just not touching anything and leaving it as it is, there is a conceptually flawed attempt to neuter this place into being more of their vision of “what it should be” by randomly deleting threads and users that are generating conversation that they don’t “like”...
i believe this place has been at times nothing short of remarkable... unfortunately, from my perspective, the very thing that has made it remarkable and a counterpoint to the boring structure of the “mountain projects” of the world, is exactly what cmac and co are expediting the elimination of...
and so this board seems to be on a downward trend as the seemingly relatively non-tech nature of those running this board let it fall into a neglected decades old interface... which would even be fine if it was just left alone.
oh well, i don’t have the time or money right now to throw into doing anything about this, so most of this is just useless talk... and this board is not quite dead yet so while i plan on putting more of my energy into putting out content on other platforms, precisely because of how mismanaged, from my perspective, that this board has become... i won’t be leaving entirely just yet.
and that’s also because the above criticism is not intended to be entirely negative as i do appreciate what cmac and co have created around here. and so in the [unlikely?] chance that this is read by someone who runs this board i hope this is simply seen as feedback from someone who has at times contributed to this place but who is now intending to contribute less due to the combination of ad hoc/unexplained moderation and now decades old neglected user interface that is currently in existence here...
and so at the same time, i would hope that the above is seen as coming from someone who recognizes that there is intrinsic difficulty in herding a bunch of cats... and so there is a lot of genuine appreciation for a lot of the successful decisions and judgement calls that have been made by cmac and co along the way, that is underpinning the above criticism.

I got a free locker when I donated to the Access Fund.
FWIW, moderation around here has always been mysterious and never explained by the mgmt, think of it as an objective hazard.

I believe Locker said, when he came back last time, that he was asked to promise not to "do that sort of thing" in the future. Or else.
Unlike the US with Assaad, when Locker crossed the red line, he got nuked.
But, also like Christ, he will rise again, I am sure. Just a little late for Easter.
