eBay Warns Customers to Change Passwords After Database Hacked
Well they didn't warn me by email, phone call, or regular mail.
The database contained encrypted passwords and was compromised in late February into March. The hacked database contained customer information including names, phone numbers, birth dates, home addresses and email addresses. It did not include financial information, the online auction site said.
Why is this just becoming public now?
Almost all "rights" now reside with business, because they can afford to buy them.
Businesses can change the terms of a contract, buried in sometimes almost undecipherable fine print and if you don't opt out you have consented.
Try sending in a change in the terms of your contract and advising the business that by accepting your payment it is accepting your changes in the terms of the contraxct.

I think I would rather enjoy the convenience of online payments for everything and maybe get hacked once or twice than spend my whole life writing checks and mailing crap and driving to the bank all the time.
I was also the person who said I would rather never lock my car and get it stolen once or twice than spend my whole life locking and unlocking my car. I've had one car stolen, now I lock it about half the time...
In other words, don't listen to me but I'm gonna keep paying bills with my phone

Our personal info is chattel to these impersonal systems (and the people that run them) - to be bought, sold, stolen and used against us.
 let's not forget, any system created by human beings will, at its base, be impersonal.
I tend to not take it personally.
I warned ya ZB, warned all of ya--back a few months ago when i got hacked. ;-)
that's when I read about how most of us went on high alert and loaded our shotguns... we all were ready but they still got through...
Now's a good time to mention not to let paranoia run things in your life... let it be a comfortable caution.

DMT, I've been thinking of the monitor thang but figgered it was a scam.
I appreciate your insight - which company you use and how happy you are.
I guess my real question is, do you really think they are on it 24/7? I
mean, I could prolly get Ron for a lot less but I don't mind paying for quality.

Ron, your getting hacked could be completely separate from this. A trojan on your computer could easily gain passwords to any site you log into without you knowing it. It could have easily been delivered through one of those photos you mentioned.

It is good that you posted a warning, Ron.
However, isn't that the responsibility of eBay.
You should send them an invoice for $1 Million with a change in contract language such that by continuing to allow your participation in the eBay commerce site, they are accepting liability for payment of your invoice.
I will be sending you my invoice shortly with similar terms for the "not free" legal advice provided here.

I read the eBay warning this AM.
They didn't hack your credit card/payment info, it's kept on a separate computer. Just your password and personal info.
That's bad enough.
Looks as if most of the western world is trying to change their ebay passwords. I can't even get into the site.
