It seems to me that some good thoughtful "climbing oriented" threads come from unlikely places. These threads are often off of the front page quickly and lost to people who surf ST occasionally for something that isn't just internet gossip.
Let's get a team together that bumps these threads back up to the front page. We may snare some interesting International climbers who can add valuable content to ST.
When people bump they seem to think they need an excuse to do so. How about bumping good climbing threads with a simple BBST ( bump for a better ST), after a short time it will be understood you're part of the team that wants more climbing threads front and center.
I know it's been mentioned many times, but if the Taco was divided into a climbing topic/TR forum and an OT forum, I would check the former multiple times a day and the latter once a week (if at all.). It's frustrating.
We can roast the BST later. Right now, our guest of honor, it seems.

Tatty Bumpo is the herd-followingest independent you'll ever meet.
Takes a lickin', too. So he's just like you and I, you and I.
But I don't feel we need that control factor, Jim.
It's what it is, and it seems like it's a tool: a pry bar, specifically, a digging bar, which can do both. What's the jackhammer look like?
We posters live on a slippery slope of our own making.
We imagine things to be in process of becoming other than what they were when we went and signed up for this tour;
and when we see that things just evolve and change in spite of our Quixotist views,
then we think that we can overcome them.
And for this we sound the alarm.
What's all the palace revolt talk, anyway? The ST is a microdot in a matrix involving GILLIONS. It is its own little galaxy. Inside of it, we can go anywhere we choose.
Admittedly, it helps to know the current front page to find the place we want in that galaxy. It is the function of the search engine to do this, however, not the users' piss-poor memories, thank God and CMac.
Tatty doesn't care, he's got lots of fight left in him.
I could go thru this website bumping this and that, but by the time I got back to the front page, some slime will have seeped in, bet on it.
Remember, Locker's not a lurker...nor is he totally commited to keeping the ST "pure" I'll bet.
Nor am I. Nor am I.
I say the "Team" is gud enuf like it is. Non-existent. Non-elitist.
This entire scene is what we make it and the content should be focused on climbing so thanks to Jim for keeping that issue front and center.
Chris has asked me to go back and index my historical threads and other postings and I will try to get to work on that task after the Diamond Reflections event.
I am closing in on four thousand scanned pages and images posted here so I am around for the long haul and actively work to keep everyone entertained and the stalwarts engaged.
I encourage folks to share their climbing experiences and interests without reservation because we have a really good crew here and I would like it to stay that way.
Just remember, when you are bumping, that there is a certain kind of bump that must not be bumped, because ST has a policy against that kind of bump, and if you bump it, you might find yourself bumped right off this forum.
Bumping threads is perhaps the lamest, dictatorial form of communication that is very unique to ST.
Most contributors to other climbing, skiing, surfing forums I contribute too would never dream of adding to a thread without any real weight or substance that adds value or smart ass comment.
I can only surmise its a weak attempt at editorializing a place lacking in constant substance so these people get their little hard ons up thinking they are contributing to the overall good by just saying "bump".
I see many bumps on the horizon.....pushing climbing content up front. When I was a kid my older sister, damn her to eternity, told my twin brother and I a scary story about some creature that went "bump in the night." I resolve to overcome the ensuing phobia that developed and bump, bump, bump.
About 5 years ago, one night when I could not sleep and LEB had invaded the front page, I spent hours bumping pure climbing threads to the front page until that was all that was on there.
Bumping LEB and other weak ass politico parrots off the front page is still a noble effort and falls under the "fock that repetitive noise" clause of silencing the dipshits with too much time on their hands.
Science, Art and general BS'ing should still be kosher
my two cents (i'm new so really only 1 cent), but an off topic forum would be a hyudge improvement.
here's the front page currently. it's not so much the % of OT threads that are a problem, but the amount of time they spend on the first page. hell, why not just sticky the Politics, god religion thread and the climate change thread so they're always on top, since that's where they stay anyway, constantly pushing down the climbing TR's and beta.
The problem with bumping is that it only temporarily refreshes a thread that the "community" has passed interest in.
The truest way to increase the front page quality of the forum is to have more trip reports. NO, they don't have to be Earth shaking, ground breaking record staking radicals either!
Lots of us are reduced to Average Joe/Weekend Warrior status. People here even seem to appreciate an average photo TR, or a good road trip TR.
If you found it interesting enough to take pictures of, chances are that a good number of people here will enjoy looking at them.
I have posted a good number of Average Joe TR's and gotten very satisfactory responses. It doesn't have to stay on the front page forever, if there are lots of them.
Mr. Donini, you are possibly more guilty than most. Nobody of your caliber, who climbs as much as you do, should be allowed to bitch about forum quality if you don't post pictures of the 100+ days a year you climb!
It's not even that difficult in the new digital age. You can take tons of photos, delete the ones you don't like, enhance the ones you do like, plug a little cable thingy into the computer and away you go.
Here are a couple examples of non-climbing TRs that I did, with lots of pretty rock in them, that folks seemed to enjoy.
You think your life isn't interesting enough to share with the gang? I beg to differ.
I BBST'd a number of TRs yesterday to no affect at all. People have already seen them.
Ever thought of creating your own website devoted exclusively to climbing with mods? Or do you just like f*#king up this site with constant complaining and meaningless thread bumbing of old threads that died for a reason?
//Lots of us are reduced to Average Joe/Weekend Warrior status//
Or further down or just started out and stayed there or never have seen the elephant or looked hard for one.
It takes all kinds to make up the readership on this website.
Why insist on "real climbers" being the major beneficiaries of the info, stories, and laughs herein? Anyone can stay in Camp 4, IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO.
"They got that right. They sure got that right."-L.S.
I smell exclusionary, elitist tendencies I do not appreciate in the slightest degree.
Maybe I have a Minnesota viewpoint, a typical PHC outlook, but this site is "good enough" as it is; but things need to change or they stale, so this is moot.
ElCap Pics is the best TR and it is on another site, the rest is a monkey on a rock with a rope, so we need the goofy filler material to keep us awake,
can you imagine a Nascar forum with a guy in a car?
the Tioga Pass thread is useful, and the data base of route beta,
Another way to keep climbing stuff at the top is by NOT bumping all the off-topic garbage. I'd like to thank everyone who shows restraint by not replying to that nonsense.
For a while there, almost a month, I was seeing about 90% climbing content on the front page. Looked awesome. But now it's back to the dredges again. Let's bump it up!
It takes me very little time to check the current posts to see if someone has posted a climbing related thread. If so I will read that one. 99% of the posts are junk! I don't read them and I wonder about the people who do. Don't they have better things to do than read the crap posted on ST? Yes, keep the climbing posts on the first page. And Steve keep posting!
Ron
Since this is climbing related; I thought that I would mention that
Joe Kelsey's new and revised guide to the Wind River Range just came out a few days ago; published by Falcon. Many new routes published with color photo's.
Funny that Steve Grossman was asked to index his threads, as my first idea on primo climbing content bumpage was: That's easy, I'll just search the site for Steve Grossman's threads.
Nice resource alexey! You mean we can bump ourselves out of the dear diary for misanthropic, wasted whack jobs state of affairs this old house has become?
i used to try to go to all the trips and help and also
tried to get lots of the small-reply threads...
however, since dial up has gotten so hard to deal with this last two
years, i usually just catch the ones where someone needs encouragement
and let the others wait... seems i never get back to them, to bump
them up though, these days... :(
i ENJOY seeing the small post, get bump for others to see, as, so many
nice replies or shares end up making those minors into majors, then :)
like to bump when i see new folks post, too...
hope we can all keep this up...
very sorry i have had to let so many thread go by,
this dial up and my stamina just can't do what we used to, :(
here's to your helping the taco:
(well, the picture i was going to put, just timed out)
:))
*was going to be the trophy, :)
but will post, as is, :)
Eighteen out of 30 off-topic this AM. I like a good OT thread myself, when it's a community building thread about stuff that the climbers here do (like the building thread), but the ones that are just recycling the day's news, or pseudo news, are crowding out the climbing. But I'm guilty myself of contributing to those threads sometime so it's a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.
Now I'm off to climb so no time to bump great trip reports...
Jim, I want to see a story about your NIAD and I don't want to hear any crap about how it wasn't really a NIAD cause you didn't make the cutoff time. Tell us at least that you will write a story someday.
Whatever, Locker. Enjoy your RongerTopo. Dementia-addled kooks running the boards with drivel on subjects they don't have the time to understand but more than enough ignorance to prate on about. What a service to the climbing community!
I'm not against free speech, but in what other level of discourse do you choose to listen to 98% BS from back woods idjits? Do you stop the guy on the street with the poster board of the dead fetus to engage him in long, meaningful discussions?
I get it. However, the noise to content ratio around here is very askew, frame it how you will.
"Just being your" racist, idiotic self actually isn't tolerated on other forums. Only here on SuperKook. Enjoy your RongerTopo, Locker, I won't say much more about it than that!
I don't dictate how others speak, that's stupid. WHat's funny is when somebody doesn't listen! How hurt the feelings, how demanding the questions of "answer my stupid question!" become! You should know that.
Don't worry, you can tolerate the special guy all the way to the grave. I'm done paying attention to that sh#t stain, the biggest OCD posting drama whore on the Topo since, well, YOU!
Cool, Locker, well many who spend their time climbing know this place as a waste of time dung heap. Sewer rat Rong climbs to the top once again!

I'm waiting for the "ratting" to begin actually, so my troll corpse can be crowed over and you spin away into more useless post count wanking, happy to say the same nothing, over and over again. The 20k plus club demands a strict regimen!
EDIT: Hi Andrzzeej/Farouk. Glad to see you join the class act club! I guess your fake hymns of peace are just that! Get better, maybe you too will climb outta here!
It must be winter, because supertopo forum is having it's regular melt-down from flames. Too bad ya'all can't get outside and get your systems calmed down. It will all be better come spring.
I reported ya queefuss.. Photo bombing the climate thread - you need to go..
You wont stop with you childish crap. And today you went over the line and screwed with every other user here that WAS participating in threads on this forum, and it doenst mean SQUAT if you dont like them.. YOU dont have to click on them. Thats the way this place works. Dont like it PAAALLLEEEEZE go elsewhere. Ill bet youd be groovy over at rcdotcom. BU bye..
I'm going to chime in since this thread is already a shitshow and doing exactly the opposite of what it was intended to do.

I took a lengthy(well kinda) break from supertopo.
When I came back I couldn't believe how Ron has infested almost every single thread.
Instead of engaging, I just go elsewhere and guess what?
More Ron.
Aside from bumping quality off the front page, he has managed to sully(sorry sullly) many, many threads, ot or not.
I do think he's a knowitall that talks out of his ass on many topics, I rarely agree with his point of view(which is ok), and am often shocked by the things he says, and thinks are appropriate to say.
I'm certain he's a wealth of knowledge on some topics, but he acts like he's an expert on everything.
He is misinformed much of the time, often times ignorant to his own ignorance, and frankly, I'm sick of him. Never said it before, feels good! ;-)
Most times when I see his name I move on, only to see him in whatever else I want to read,
I consider Ron to be leading the charge of the decline on supertopo.
To know that you, Ron, report people frequently, pisses me off.
All this bullshˇt drives people away from supertopo, at least people who may have good climbing content to share.
Ok, that's it from me.
Now maybe do as Jim asked in the OP of this thread.
Ron is the new LEB and Rajmit.
Just another blowhard to ignore.
I kind of feel sorry for him at this point
It must be sad to lead such a desperate life looking for
gratification and attention online.
I enjoy seeing bumps of threads that have interesting content, especially related to climbing or the outdoors life in general. However, I don't like the "carpet bombing" of BBST because someone has decided they don't like what is on the front page. It seems to do little good anyway because the threads that are "tedious" (being polite here) or politically driven are continually popping back up on the Chart Toppers anyway. Lost, then, are newer threads that may be interesting but are getting shuttled lower down on the Totem Pole.
I would hope that those who are BBSTing will be mindful of what they are choosing and doing it with the intent of re-sharing something of quality and interest and not just acting like a self righteous bully….
Hey, this forum is different things to different people.
Personally, I don't come on here to chat or debate or argue.
I'm more of a lurker/reader or a drive-by poster.
I like to share, mostly about climbing, or hand out props on climbing related posts.
Many of us are opinionated but some of us don't have filters or governors that make us pause before clicking "post this reply".
Differing opinions are a good thing, and yes, climbers will be climbers and bicker all night.
I like reading OT stuff, and when I'm repulsed by something I read by Ron, I rarely, if ever engage. I click away from that thread.
Problem is, he's always there, around the next bend. From Sea World to selfies, he's got an opinion and must post it, and it is often the start of a thread unraveling.
Does it "get to me"?
Not really, or you'd see me popping up more often telling him how I feel.
So Ron, this my opinion.
Put a lid on it once in a while.
Now you ask,, do i care what some dood in AZ or some chick in Canookville think of me??
Well I guess that's one difference between us.
If I said something that many people found offensive, I would stop and think about it.
Sometimes haters gonna hate, though.
This "community" is made up of people that care about each other to some extent, even if they only know each other through pixels.
Basically what locker just said.
just use greasemonkey. before the bumping of all the TR threads the front page on the Taco for me had 12 threads on it. All but two were climbing related.
don't like a thread and never want to see it again? grease it. tired of blowhards and narcs? greased!
There is so much more to ST than the front page. Surfing the front page is fun & all but it's kind of like riding under the chair at the ski hill & expecting waist deep pow every day. Go for a hike & explore if you want to find the goods!
The more I play with the search function & look beyond the front page the more fun I have on here.
So funny goatboyz stolen stone nudes pic has Jghedge as the credit, lol!!
Here's an account of what some people are doing to try to make ST a better place: photobombing!
Norton--the photobombing was started by the guy who calls himself "Jebus."
I have no idea why--seemed to be the start of some sort of meltdown.
Rightly or wrongly, the Chief then retaliated with his own photobombing, and they battled back and forth, with the photobombing settling on a derogatory cartoon of the Chief (from "Jebus") and a funny picture of a wasted guy, presumably Jebus or at least meant to represent Jebus (from the Chief).
I thought the Chief actually "won," and commented on that, but that brought forth more photobombing by Jebus, so I don't know if the photobombing has ended, or if we're just in a lull, or what.
Ron apparently reported "Jebus" to CMac, although it isn't clear that Ron really reports people to CMac or just threatens to (and takes "credit" when they get banned, even if that's unrelated to anything Ron did or didn't do).
I have never reported anyone to CMac, but the thought crossed my mind on this one, especially since the photobombing appeared to be unprovoked. Not that I have any idea if CMac would care or would do anything.
bump. hoping to investigate some obscure NV slab this weekend. Looks like at least 300 ft on google earth. possibly up to 1500 if its not 4th class. Hoping to return with smething worthy of my 1st real TR, and maybe a FA.
