Get lost pathetic ASSWIPES!!! Nobody wants what you are pushing. Webmaster do your thing.
Feel free to post any spammers names right here so we can lose these pukes as fast as possible.
Help keep this forum clear by immediately posting any spammer that you come across on the ST. Don't respond to the spammer's links because that is the paying motivation for such garbage. Just do a search by name if you are uncertain about any poster's activities or history. No posts of consequence or content is a dead giveaway, along with a short history.
The three names listed above are likely from the same spammer.
Thanks for clearing off these scumbags! Let's make it easy for the webmaster and bump this thread right away so that these clowns will go somewhere else to take a dump.
Today there is a program with Python source code available.
It also uses a graphics library I believe Tkinter. Programmers
today know that SPAM mail is uncontrollable with pymail.
I believe it's a $200.00 fine for each SPAM mail if proven
in court which is unlikely. We recommend just deleting the
messages and not wasting time.
Posting somebody's name on assumption which is not fact
could cause more serious damages to the person whom thinks
they are right by exposing others.
On a different thread I suggested there should be a exemption to the constitutional prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment for litterers of public property. Hanging them up by their thumbs is appealing; so is taking them out back, lining them up and then summarily shooting them. Well, the same thing should apply to spammers. In that case, perhaps hanging by the toes might be an effective way to deal with them. How about one minute of hanging for each spam sent out to someone's computer.
Mailwasher Pro is an excellent tool versus spam. I am quite pleased with it. You blow the stuff away before it ever reaches your machine.
lee jerry--I've seen scum spammers before, but this beats them all:

I guess it would be pointless to suggest that maybe, just maybe, a technical solution to the problem is in order?
Hint: pattern analysis. All the spam thus far shares common traits. It is in fact quite easy to eliminate completely.
Oh ok...
The approach I usually take is to develop a set of patterns to indicate likelihood of spam. In this case the patterns might include:
1. Newly registered user and/or <n posts
2. Improper use of the [ url ] tag
3. A set of a few key words commonly seen in the spam so far
I assign a score to each of these patterns based on their value as an indicator of spam. I then set thresholds at which the post is either canned, held for review, or allowed to pass through. More likely you don't want to delete anything if you have the time to review -- in this case it's far less time than is currently spent chasing them down.
A CAPTCHA is useless here because this forum is proprietary and therefore these aren't robots. Not to say someone wouldn't or couldn't automate post submission, but I think if you review the logs you'll find that's not indicated.
If I were assigning this work to a developer I'd be generous and give them an hour or two, including time to test.
khanom, I sorta like the mob rule, vigilante-ness of having the STForum members out the spammers...
...it has a techno "eye-for-an-eye" sort of symmetry that is appealing to me.
Not that I don't like your elegant soft solutions that are uber efficient. It's just, well, so unfair, think of the poor spammer on the other side! They've gotta make a living too... so a bit of air time for them is not so bad, eh?
Why do we have to go all techno-nuclear on these spammers when good old personalized lynchings will work just as well...AND keep RJ gainfully employed and able to guzzle designer coffee noon to midnight?
Ya gotta think of the big picture here. Wholistically. Compassionately. See the world and all its differences as just part of the sitcom we're each paying monthly for.
Spammers may not be people like you and me, but whatever they are, they gotta make a livin' just like you and me, right? I mean, even naked mole rats that poo and pee all over themselves and in their own beds deserve to live as they were created, right?
Let the spammers be the naked mole rats of the Taco. Let them revive old Lasik threads, invade climbing TR's, disrespect memorial threads. Let them wallow in their own feces for the $$ they crave.
Until RJ gets the word that another one has slimed its way up from the bowels of the earth where it belongs...and is looking for naked mole rat heaven...
BTW RJ....roxyrohit is looking for naked mole rat heaven. Thanks.

OK, I am probably making a fool of myself, but I was wondering what exactly is spam(spamming on Supertopo specificaly). I am pretty new at going on line/internet(last 5-6 months)and have heard the word(spam)used many times, and just figured they were talking about the pop-ups that are always doing just that(popping-up).
But on Supertopo I haven't realy noticed that, unless you are talking about, occasionally certain people using the opportunity to redirect readers to their own website. Which I have noticed a couple of times and thought it was a little disrespectful or somehow cheap. Or they posted a thread and somehow included their web-page/advertising their business etc. at the end(made me sort of wonder if this was the main intention to begin with).
So I am just trying to learn something new. And therefore be on the lookout for such scoundrels, and also avoid falling into such a breach of etiquette myself.
EDIT: I saw someone mention the use of a Captcha on another thread before starting a new thread is allowed. It doesn't always work for people who post themselves but,
yeah, they're real Capt. Not sure what his deal is. As far as I know, I've never even interacted with him on here. He's rarely on here. And I'm pretty sure the three of us have contributed far more to this site than he has. Oh well. Whatev. I'm rarely here anymore anyhow.
LEB? Yeah, ya got my vote. Boot that sh#t off of here!
This guy has has a hundred avatars promoting his singular psychosis over multiple boards - he has no place in this forum, IMO.
If allowed, he will do nothing but push a singular objective. That in my mind defines spam.
Edit: Thanks, Anders, the link was dropped, the guy's name is Dan H0witt
Funny, when I try to write H0witt without the zero it comes out as A#@&%e.
Thanks for your help in identifying the frequent spammers to the forum.
With your help, we've implemented an anti-spam filter which appears to have been effective (at least for the last week) at blocking spam posts such as the many posts related to DVD conversion software. In the past few weeks, dozens of attempted posts have been blocked, and the frequency of posts has dropped off in the past few days to nil.
FYI, for those interested, we have been able to determine several interesting facts about the frequent spam posts regarding DVD software: They appear to be posts from real people, not bots They have had a consistent focus on promoting a software company related to video conversion software They appear to be hired to optimize their client's search engine ranking They appear to be from Asia, China likely, however the IP addresses may have been spoofed. They seem to have been effective, as their client has a high search ranking on many keywords Since the posts appear to have been by real people, not bots, we decided against implementing CAPTCHA or similar techniques suggested in posts on this thread. We felt doing so would prevent unnecessary work for forum posters, and had little effect slowing down spammers.
Since our anti-spam filter is designed to be upgraded as we learn of new spam posts, please keep us posted if you see additional spam posts.
Thanks again for your help in pointing out offending posts. Doing so provided us the info to implement our initial anti-spam filtering rules. Your help in continuing to do so going forward will help us keep the forum free of similar types of spam posts.
I think another account of mine was being used? I do notice email
in my account linked to this address that appears to be sent by somebody
at the provider while logged into my account? This appears to be more
of an employee problem noting I am not employed by them.
In the Python book not by guido pymail is dissected. The consensus from
the python programmers is most all of it is junk and to just ignore it and
delete it since most is not traceable.
BES1'st is the same weird dude who has emailed me under another username. Look at his post it's the same weird sh#t. I won't spill the beans here in hopes that he goes away again, but I'm sure you know who I am talking about.
I must have read the same python book as that other.
Weird? Everything I have said in that other thread is from the best electronic
engineers in the world. I can't be too specific as their journals are all private
and privileged, so i was giving some hints. As far as the RFID that's
controlled from my CMOS.
Again it's unneeded when using a USB port without a standard antenna
and if disabled your signals processed will probably be better with less
heat up from over processing. While there you can also disable ROM
scan and the remote ethernet magic packets if your using a wireless client
for yourself with no need to remotely re-boot the system from the stored
power in the power supply. I usually ignore SPAM mail, though
sometimes they do send cute pictures.
Neebe, its to boost their Google ratings. When search engines see lots of links pointing to a site, with key words, the Google rating goes up and that site comes up high in google searches for those key words.
RJ, how about ignoring posts with urls in the title? Some simple rules could eliminate this stuff, with little consequence for regular posters.
i hope i didn't offend anyone when i posted the small note about skimble.
just a bit of background, i created the skimble iphone app and website to keep track of my climbing. i developed skimble out of genuine passion for the climbing community. with my technology background, i've been inspired to innovate for this outdoor/adventure lifestyle. with the savings i had from my previous work at google, i launched this free service for other people to enjoy.
that said, supertopo is an incredible site and i have a bunch of their guidebooks! the supertopo forum is a great place to discover info about climbing and perhaps related tools & tips.
the previous post was the only time i have ever talked about skimble directly on the supertopo site...and i decided to do it to specifically share the fact that you could win climbing shoes last month because it was relevant! i mean c'mon, who doesn't like free gear?
anyway, all is in the past. this dirtbag climber is focused on climbing rocks and is off on a smith rock roadtrip! have fun guys and keep sending hard.
and retro jean killy chevrolet thing are all part of trying to
crack high school level english at mountainnering school this year for my scholastics ... ...
If the admins are not actively using this thread to remove the threads, then bumping this thread, adding the names of the spammers and their products, and linking to the threads actually gives the spammers more of what they want: air time.
It's like feeding the trolls, but it's feeding Google page rankings for the spammers.
Looks like he is going to hit every thread on the front page. He should be hitting thsi thread pretty soon. A spammer spamming an anti-spam thread. A meta-spam?
But he is slow. Maybe an actual person, not a spambot.
The douche's website selling likely fake Gucci bags has a "contact us" web link. I used a fake return address that it seems to accept with a evil and angry email complaining about the use of Chinese Spammers to ruin our fun, and how unlikely it was that we would ever buy their product after becoming acquainted with them by such crappy means.
Perhaps we can spam their site back through their email and their internet sales links? Lets make fake purchases and always, always give fake ID and Emails...
A load of fake cancelled sales might screw with their profits a little, and thus their motivations.
hey there say, mr E ... oh my... i just saw this, and wondered what was going on... so now: it's commercials to "pretend to like" dvds? .... man oh man...
very sad.... as if there is NOT enough advertising for such things, in the world, already... :(
^^Good point, Neebee. The only problem is those so cross-eyed with rage over someone disagreeing with them, they can't read simple code.
Heck, that's a lot of our regular posters!
Wouldn't want to make them type anything beyond their reactive tirades now, would we? It just wouldn't be fair and would spawn a whole new reactive side, and that just feeds the fire of indignation.
Wait a minute! I just realized we are no longer a unified nation, we are an indig-nation.
Sorry to interrupt the derision and division - carry on.
hey there say, Mr E .... you know, i was not sure when those "codes" pop up... but you know, i think you are right.... they may not be for when you first join...
the MAY be for each and every message... and that is a big bother... especially when some are hard to read.... i have had some places that i visited, just to say hi, and i had to reset the codes (when it appeared) to a NEW one, so i could read it, to even send the message...
oh my...
well, yep, i reckon that would surely not do, here, then... :))
:)
I suggest that those who post only (or nearly so) to political, religious, conspiracy theory, and similar threads be suspended. Examples: shut up and pull, klimmer, corniss chopper. Those who never contribute to threads and discussions at the heart of our community, to do with climbers and climbing. We wouldn't tolerate them showing up at the campfire in person and ranting, so why should we here?
Hey, I sometimes post about climbing and climbers. Don't I? And I try hard not to yell or be unreasonable. (Edit: Plus I was valiantly helping to try to stifle the evil suap.)
"A team of computer scientists at two University of California campuses has been looking deeply into the nature of spam, and they think found a 'choke point' [PDF] that could greatly reduce the flow of spam. It turned out that 95 percent of the credit card transactions for the spam-advertised drugs and herbal remedies they bought were handled by just three financial companies — one based in Azerbaijan, one in Denmark and one in Nevis, in the West Indies. If a handful of companies like these refused to authorize online credit card payments to the merchants, 'you'd cut off the money that supports the entire spam enterprise,' said one of the scientists." Frequent Slashdot contributor (and author of a book on Digital Cash) Peter Wayner wonders if "the way to get a business shut down is to send out a couple billion spam messages in its name."
Just to inform you to stay alert on a new type of agressive spam on the internet and also in the LSI forum. After decades of spamming by simply dumping a list of urls to other sites, spam seems to evolve. This new type is more subtile, it targets on one url only and glues this into human "story". It's added by real members (members behaving not differently then you and I) and if you don't watch closely, it looks pretty real.
The format of this spam
The spam goes like :
Part 1: It starts with a personal line containing an introduction of why to buy the product as mentioned in part 2.
Part 2: It mentions the product by name with the url of dealstudio, hotdealstime, dotdeals or other similar sites. I'm not sure these are real online shops, so don't buy anything. To to bypass the LSI spam filter, also other urls are used which redirect you to the same site.
Part 3: Last part is a question to get your help (thoughts/opinion/ideas/etc).
Examples of this spam
Urls (bold) have been removed in these examples.
Example 1:
Hello, all folks, i was angry, i always play games on PC, my brother hate me, so ruin my LCD. Now i have to buy new one instead of the broken one. I have no enough money, so my friend choosed this Asus one for me.I know a little about it ,What do you think about it ? Is it a good choice ?
Example 2:
Hello, my boyfriend is fans of Back street boy.He like them very much, His birthday is coming, i want to choose a gift for him, but i have no idea in mind. What do you think about this sunglasses? I think it is very cool, but i don't know it is the back street boys' style or not. So i want to know your review before i got it . Any other suggestions??
Example 3:
Hello, all guys, my boyfriend is crazy about playing games, he is looking for a keyboard in recently. Do you have a good choice? My brother suggest us go for this Logitech one, he said it is very fantastic.he like it very much. What do you think about it ? is it really a high performance keyboard? woRTH to get it or nOT ??
Example 4:
was wondering anyone of u have experience with this electric guitar?i googled the product and attracted by its price. but i am not sure for its quality. what about its performance??
What to do when you see spam
I am alergic to spam, and I want to see it gone from LSI. Thats simple The majority of spam activity is already stopped by the system and doesn't make it to the site. And that what comes through doesn't live long on LSI, because there a team of very alert moderators who monitor the forum closely. If you step on a new spam topic which has not been removed by one of the moderators, report it (use the report-link next to the post) and the spam cruncher patrol comes in action right away.
Thanks, admins, for giving bluestar the deathblow.
smilelizzy25 is similar intrusion from dealstudio.com
whack-a-mole. no fun.
At this point chiching is a judgement call. She's keeping it to politics and isn't starting new threads. If you want to take her out you could also off Wow, Really? Or at least give him a warning.
While only a few, and far too brief, somehow they don't look like a pure spammer. If so, they are going to a lot of trouble, posting innoculously a few times before dropping the sales pitch.

Not a Bot.
It's not a Bot, its a person. But it's a spammer. Look at his posting history and look at the posts. New to the board. Makes a few one line posts to prove he's not a bot, and then posts a longer post with a link.
BTW, they really don't care if you click on their links. The links are there for google. This is a Search Engine Optimization strategy.
Pardon my ignorance but shouldn't a spambot be trying to sell you something
or at the least steal your identity?
The tiara girl just sounds like a bored 12 year old in 29 Palms.
I was going to style my hair curly maybe adding in one or two tracks of extensions because I have just over chin length hair. So yeah? How about this Rhinestone Tiara?Tiara or no Tiara? Also feel free to add any other suggestions like make up or jewellery or anything as you please

In other unrelated news, The NY Post is reporting that a development member of the U.S. Ski Team is being axed for pissing on an 11 year old girl during a Jet Blue flight.
This guy is pretty persistent. Can you block his address?
On the other hand, he is actually reading the four threads he inserts his three or four word messages into (he mentioned Roy by name!), and he's being a little bit entertaining these days. Heck, I went and looked at the jacket and the slip just because he wrote such good copy.
Minerals... Sorry to hear you are having a rough night. I will keep this short and simple.
I realize you may not care about the YCA, YOSAR, Blue Planet Run, Kor, Bridwell, the ALCF, and ASCA but I assure you there are climbers on this site who do. My store is the only one that benefits all of the above and those who do care realize this. I have never utilized SPAM to advertise or to promote what I do. I strongly suggest you check the definition of SPAM since I have never sent messages indiscriminately nor have I ever sent messages to large numbers of recipients.
The post I did on the review page was a review first and a helpful community link second. If you look closely you will see there is a link on the page to MountainGear; that is NOT a paid link! I have spoken to Chris about linking the Vershke store to SuperTopo. However, the feed that he uses only works for big companies who operate at a profit. It is not designed for the smaller companies that operate altruistically.
I wish you continued success, peace and happiness.
I don't get it. I guess it is the same mentality as the blarring loud commercial to get your attention. Just pisses you off and makes you turn it down.
Well, a moment ago I just posted about how most of the spam on the site is currently from one guy posting links to a certain site and that decoding the tinyurl.com link and wiping out posts that referenced that certain site might solve the problem somewhat.
But my post went away! Leading me to believe that direct mention of that certain site is already being handled.
So my other suggestion was to report him to tinyurl.com, which will cause them to wipe out all his links everywhere and perhaps he will think more about leaving us alone.
Will somebody splain to me how these retards make a living at this? I mean,
how much do they get paid per hit? I would think it would be pennies.
That takes a lot of other retards to make a living.
A message I received today, from someone with pathological optimism syndrome (= POS sydrome):

Damn, now I'm jealous as that's one I'd kill to have in my collection.
Did you know that a US Congressman gave $170K to one of those!
I bet he'd be willing to marry Mariam.
