I know this is a huge longshot, but promised I would post. We were headed to Bassi Falls on Ice House rd off 50 to check the crag above. Stopped at Ice House Store and my friend's dog bolted out of the car and into the woods headed east at dusk. We ran after, in the dark, to no avail. Drove around for hours the following day as well. Dog was apparently freaked out.
If you happen to find her/see her please contact me. Her name is Sweet Pea, she may still have a choke collar with worn tag, and is chipped. Thanks

hey there say, hillrat...

keep looking and keep praying... and keep putting out flyers, you never know...

i just recently heard of a miracle find of a near-local dog, lost in woods and it was found and returned to owner... thin and wornout, but alive...

then--i am humbly in awe of god's mercy--my mom accidently lost my younger brother's dog--due to neighborhood chainsaws freaking out (while she was babysittting it, when said-brother was out of town)...

it came back, later, only to be taken home, by brother's request, to be kept in a more familiar enviorment, by friend, and:

said DOG was freaked out again, by what, the friend never knew (they suspect more chainsaw noise in the wooded areas, there--this has been the season of cutting, before winter) and this time it was WORSE:

DOG WAS lost in the santa cruz hill area, :O

cutting this short, they were driving around, just driving, and one of the them actually spotted the dog...

they did have familiar territory on their side, though, but it was a fast 'wilderness' worse than where my mom's is...

keep trying, and keep praying...

the other guy, with his miracle find, has just about given up hope...

i will be praying for your dog... do whatever you can...
take stuff that smells like you... take its favorite food...
make familiar noises, try checking day or night, or early hours...

just keep trying... find nearby food service places, etc..
god bless...

If you can't find her, consdier adopting this dog.

Even if you do find her, you might consider it. Dogs like company.

How old was this dog?

When I was a kid we knew this one family with a rather old dog that had some various health problems. It bolted randomly when they pulled over at the side of the road, nothing freaked it out, they claimed she just decided to go die in peace and spare its owner the heartbreak of burying her.

Try this old hunter's trick; take some clothing from the owner and place it in the woods where you last saw the dog, many times you will find the dog sleeping on it the next day. We did that back in the day before there were GPS dog collars.
Good Luck!

hey there say, ... yes, keep trying...

and YES as to what the above said (david) ...

the clothes can be mighty powerful...
as well as anything else that was a possession...
a doggie blanket, too...

perhaps in a few farther away locations, as well, ????
and check them all... get a group of folks to check regular
if you can...

check local homes, ??? some folks do not like strangers around though, perhaps just leave a flyer near their property????

will keep praying...

Thank you all. Good idea with the clothes. He's tried with the forest service, Ice House Store, and animal control. No luck yet. The dog is healthy enough and young enough, but has not been in the woods like that before. Anyway, appreciate you all keeping your eyes open.
My own dog disappeared for two weeks once, then showed up on the doorstep pregnant. Ya just never know.

One of my questions to hillrat was going to be if the dog had been neutered or not?
If not, showing up pregnant in a couple of weeks would not be unusual.

My friend Eric is trying to organize a search party for Sweet Pea on Sunday. if you would like to join, please call him at 916-849-0590.

And to his ex I must apologize, apparently I should not post after drinking as she is simply sad about losing her dog, not angry and not making accusations. I heard something other than what Eric said, and then ran off at the mouth.

Again, please call him if you'd like to help look for Sweet Pea.
Thanks

Just a quick update: she was found last night, skinnier but apparently healthy otherwise. That's all I know. Thanks to all who kept their eyes open.
