JB- Only at Knott's Berry Farm. And I was pretty good at it! Since I'm looking for a fantasy job what's the hourly wage for picking the chunks of gold out the the contraption while you work hard at sitting by the river.

I knew you'd come up with a way to finance the shoe fantasy.

John,

I looked into gold mining as a hobby when we moved up here, and got about every book on the subject I could find.

What I figured out was, if you were on good but not great productive ground, using low production manual means, you'd average out about $10/hr. Gold has gone up in price since then, but by and large you'd have to be pretty good to average $20/hr.

You have to move alot of gravel to get to the point that you clarify it down to the good stuff. And while I love being outdoors, I just couldn't see shoveling gravel 8hrs a day and then spending another hour cleaning up. If you're not moving gravel, you're not making money. If you invest into the equipment and claims to move more gravel, then you could make more $, but more risks and lots of opperating costs, not to mention evironmental reports etc etc.

Some guys seem to do pretty good metal detecting, and you aren' shoveling gravel hour after hour. But, those guys cover alot of ground for the nuggets they get.

Thanks for posting the pics!

It was an early 50's model, a 1952 Cessna 140 B model !!! really nice flying airplane, you had to "force" it to stall.

Can you believe people get their dream job out of college? You should hear my stories about college.

My folks shipped me off from CA to INDIANA. The first week before college I had to rescue a drowned basketball player from Lake Michigan (I'm 5'5') it just went downhill from there. I left 3 months later when they had to helicopter food to the dorms cause everyone was snowed in.

Mighty Hiker, kick me in the butt. I am so close, but still stuck. I did schedule a meeting today with someone that could help me out of my dilemma.

Lynne, I've taken a break from the Taco for the last month or so, but I see you've been quite active, here, during that period. I like the spirit of the posts of yours I've read, including this one. Let me just say I'm happy you've come on board this ship of fools. It really is a fun place. I've even developed a long-distance affection for Mr. Fat, the LEBerator and TIGger, as well as others I probably wouldn't choose to hang with. My life is richer for the interaction with them, and my mind has even been cracked open in some unexpected ways.

As to your post about fantasy jobs, I've always tried to live my fantasies, and for the most part it's worked pretty well. Haven't made a ton of money, but always managed to support myself through climbing and climbing-related activities. That's all I've ever really dreamed about.

You're getting back into climbing. Do your fantasies revolve around integrating work into a climbing lifestyle? If so, there may be ways to make them come true. Climbing can be like the hub of a wheel, with spokes of interest radiating in all directions. Here's a toast to whatever new path(s) you choose to roll down.

I just started "Your Dream Career for Idiots". I am looking down the barrel of a career change and trying to figure out what I really want to do.

Being a Feng Shui consultant would be great at $200-300/hr!

A professional photographer would also be a fun job...

more as I get through the book.

Jello, Good morning and thanks for the nice post. I have to give all the credit to the tacoettes and tacos! When I post, instead of saying "What the--------is she doing/saying I get a nice nudge in the right direction. Like, "uh, you don't have to write out Super Topo each time try ST and it's actually Taco." I'm still laughing over that one!

Of course I don't really know anyone except by their tags so I have accidentally used boy pronouns for girls etc., but oh well.

I sure agree about the mind and richer life, I have always enjoyed getting to know people and their thoughts and ideas!

So far I've lived a great life. But I sense it is time for a somewhat dramatic change. Don't know if I can climb as obviously I am older now, however I have always stayed somewhat in shape, I've been working out and dropped about 12 pounds so I don't have so much to pull up the rock. (Did you see the "If I had known I was going to live this long" Thread?) Well I was serious.

In the past it was my brain that kept me from climbing alot, four letter word called fear, but I am alot stronger mentally now and no longer have 4 small children. So we'll see. I have always really enjoyed climbers and their lifestyle. Life should be an adventure. Did you know a rut is a coffin with no ends, and too many people are in one?

If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks! Lynne

PS Since I will be climbing with daughter Amy I know if I falter she'll kick my butt up the rock just like her Father did. She is her Father's daughter!
