Ah man, that's hard.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Letting a dog go is hard. I'm thinking of ya.

Robinson Jeffers:

The House Dog's Grave

I’ve changed my ways a little; I cannot now
Run with you in the evenings along the shore,
Except in a kind of dream; and you, if you dream a moment,
You see me there.

So leave awhile the paw-marks on the front door
Where I used to scratch to go out or in,
And you’d soon open; leave on the kitchen floor
The marks of my drinking-pan.

I cannot lie by your fire as I used to do
On the warm stone,
Nor at the foot of your bed; no, all the nights through
I lie alone.

But your kind thought has laid me less than six feet
Outside your window where firelight so often plays,
And where you sit to read- and I fear often grieving for me-
Every night your lamplight lies on my place.

You, man and woman, live so long, it is hard
To think of you ever dying.
A little dog would get tired, living so long.
I hope that when you are lying

Under the ground like me your lives will appear
As good and joyful as mine.
No, dears, that’s too much hope: you are not so well cared for
As I have been.

And never have known the passionate undivided
Fidelities that I knew.
Your minds are perhaps too active, too many-sided….
But to me you were true.

You were never masters, but friends. I was your friend.
I loved you well, and was loved. Deep love endures
To the end and far past the end. If this is my end,
I am not lonely. I am not afraid. I am still yours.

Doug,

Sorry to hear that she is no longer physically with us.

I still remember the first time we met. It was at JT SushiFest out on the dry lake bed.

She seemed very happy dirtbagging with us, but definitely did not have the appearance of a dirtbag. She kinda had the demeanor of a dog that could fit in at any occasion, or environment.

Happie and I spent the better part of one evening driving around in circles looking for her one night when she got spooked, and took off.

Sorry, but at first i thought, why am i putting so much effort in to finding a dog i just met?

After we returned that evening, and found out that she had made it back ok, i was elated.

I then realized that she had the power to make people become attached to her very quickly.

I last saw her at Todd's for the Tarbuster event, and we had a good visit.

I did not know her very long, but will cherish the good times that we spent together forever.

Doug - Just saw this... so sorry to hear.
I know you were pulling hard for her and doing everything you could to make her last days some of her best.

Remember the good times and she'll live forever in your heart.

damn, nature, my heart goes out to you. I too, had my beloved canine girl, the most amazing and intelligent Rottweiler you've ever seen, pass away in my arms. It was both the saddest and most beautiful thing I've ever experienced. I cannot tell the story of her passing without breaking into tears, even after nearly 5 years. She was also 11 and cancer took her as well. About a year later, I lost my other dog, a gentle giant of a Bullmastiff, Madison, at the age of 9 1/2, also to cancer. Now, I look at my current boy, a 4-year old Bullmastiff named Ajax, and I just know that someday he, too, will break my heart in half. But each time, I know in my heart that the many years of laughter, companionship and love are so very worth the pain of their passing.

R.I.P. to Summit, and may her spirit find its way into the heart of your next dog.

A dear friend had to put her dog down and I was there. I know how deep it can go.

I went to heaven to make sure doggy was OK and sent her back a picture to prove it.

Maybe this can help

Peace

She was a good dog.

She had a good run.

You both are lucky to have found each other.

All us dogs should be so lucky.
