Cross post from thread started June 8.
Vote once per 24 hour period through July 5. Joshua Tree is in 12th place behind the big parks....Mt. Rainier NP is in 6th place to renovate housing for search and rescue staff. Denali is in the running...
$2 million is available; most big parks applied for the maximum grant of $250k.
Yosemite is doing well....the smaller parks need votes. Funding is through the National Historic Landmark program, so manmade structures are the theme. The parks need any maintenance/restoration funding they can get.

Nope ... for one split second the airplane is stationary in the sky.
:-)
I do not remember, but I think the object must be affixed to something. So I believe it passes muster if he were to jump from an Air Force antenna.
If anyone wants to ask to go along there are enough for more than one.

I was over there yesterday (Friday). Lots of security vehicles everywhere.
Really nice weather for mid-late June. Mid 70's and a breeze.

Keep your ears open. The issues will provide meaningful livelihoods for us, our children and our brethren in the great outdoors while promoting competence and self reliance for the coming centuries.

In 1962, when JFK entered the Ahwahnee I was sitting on top the entrance gate along with Roger Derryberry-so much for security!

Cool for the prez to visit the park. Cool for everyone else to know to avoid the park on that weekend! I can't imagine the zoo.

After a night with his family in a rented cabin in the popular park, Obama stuck to his usual routine by rising early Saturday and heading to a recreation center on the grounds for his daily gym workout.
Obama's weekend in the great outdoors was planned to encourage more people to appreciate and visit many of the nation's parks.
Working out indoors while in Yosemite, promoting the great outdoors.
Priceless.

I had hoped to be in the Valley on Friday to climb, but got sick on my Medicare birthday on Thursday and was stuck at home recovering. My daughter was there, and saw a plethora of helicopters, but wasn't sure which, if any, was Marine Corps One. She reported that it was not particularly crowded, perhaps because news reports led people to believe it would be a zoo.
Ken (Chicken Skinner) got a great picture of the POTUS delivering his speech on Saturday, and the Bee reported that he and the family then drove to Glacier Point, and hiked back down to the Valley. They didn't report by which route, but it sounded like the Panorama Trail. If so, it's a bit of a closed circle for me, because I was hiking up the Panorama Trail in 1962 when we heard the first helicopters of Kennedy's advance party heading into the Valley.
In any case, I didn't hear much griping about his visit from anyone who was there, and I still think it's a good thing that he found time for the visit and, I hope, a little rest. We may disagree (well, OK. We strongly disagree), but he deserves and needs a break from the dreadfulness of contemporary Washington.
