Sweet! I like Presidents who get out there.

Maybe he'll do a Teddy and follow in his footsteps. I assume that will be 2 nights at the Ahwahnee. Maybe Camp 4 one night or the Backpacker's camp.

Hopefully he'll issue an executive order making it illegal for a private company to trademark intellectual property owned by the American People.

Shall we send Mr Bridwell as our "climbing community" ambassador to meet him and shake hands in a photo opp? }:-)

Largo could take him top-roping on After Six. Sweet first pitch.

If it draws a little more attention to the importance of parks and their funding/management, fine with me. Perhaps Obama will even publicly comment on the subject while there. After all, he did call Kevin and Tommy when they got up the Dawn Wall.

There was of course Teddy Roosevelt's historic visit to Yosemite, and meeting with John Muir. What other US presidents have truly experienced Yosemite?

It's possible to imagine Obama, like Roosevelt, actually hiking if not climbing while in Yosemite. For sure he won't be golfing. But unlike Roosevelt, Obama probably won't have a chance to sneak off on his own. Visits like this must create a lot of work for the NPS, if not YOSAR.

If you please, Tad, since this will be a family vacation for the POTUS and his gals, after all, we should NOT discuss that and get back on topic, whatever that proves to be, eventually.

Licky has his own titties-on-a-boar thread. Keep those asinine comments and BS where it belongs.

And why in hell does everything have to turn political?

Barak and Michelle will probably opt for the Yosemite Majestic Hotel but Malia and Sasha are taking their Filson tent to Camp 4 hoping to get to know some of the calloused feet, non 1% types they'll never meet at Harvard.

"Trump's likeness has already been carved into stone....."

Well, can't disagree with you on that one, Cragman.

I've got you all beat...Obama's gonna be living in a location just down the hill from me. Maybe I can talk him into a little Tramway bouldering, or a romp up Whodunit...

I'm going to predict that President Obama will use his visit to Yosemite to announce at least one new National Monument.

My guess is: It will be Bear’s Ears-Cedar Mesa-Grand Gulch in SE Utah.
I have somewhat mixed feelings about this area becoming a National Monument, since it will likely affect my wanderings on it, but it does need some more protection.

On the other hand, the local & statewide Mormons really hate the idea of the area being protected from cattle grazing, ATV’s, & anything else that might make the locals some money.

Here's a link to a fairly long article on the subject.

JEleazarian, Bill Peppin and I were on the W Face of Lower Brother when we heard the thunder of helicopters approaching, then watched as the Kennedy convoy passed on their way up the valley. Funny to think that we were all there that weekend, unaware of each other. There were so few climbers in C4 in those days.

Thanks for the comment, John. JFK's visit was a four or five years before I started climbing, but I remember watching people on the Apron a few days before, while I was checking out the bears at the dump. While most of the people around me were saying things about how crazy those climbers were, I wanted to emulate them. Obviously, that desire never left me.

There goes the neighborhood.

So the President doesn't have the right to visit a National Park...

Sorry those couple of days inconvenience you...maybe pick another date and quit your bellyaching..

I was working at the Ahwahnee Hotel when the Queen visited, i still have my tee-shirt.

Edit, wrong date John.....Everyone who had a reservation during the Queens stay was still allowed in... It was cold and rainy.. and 3 secret service agents died in a car crash...)-;
"And why in hell does everything have to turn political "...Yup, I hope the President and his family get to enjoy the park ..

Well, Nita, it is Father's Day weekend. Still, when HRH Elizabeth II visited the park in February of 1983, they virtually shut down the Valley. Fortunately, my family had a cabin in Yosemite West, where I spent the weekend and, of greatest importance, met my future wife. If for no other reason than that, I don't think I'll resent dignitaries' visits, as long as they remind me of that wonderful weekend.

DMT

DMT>>>Completely true.....WEAK SAUCE..

While were at it, let's just get rid of the 4th of July, Memorial day, Labor day, Mother's day, Father's day and any rain that falls in the Valley.... clusterf*#ks always happen in the Valley.... maybe....
just deal with it...or.. go to the park another time.

Just be careful over there. Recall what happened when the Queen paid a visit.

Sounds logical, eh. Drugs be damned we're going with the old 70-30 rule.

3 killed, 1 injured March 5, 1983 Sergeant Roderick Sinclair Head-On Crash Kills 3 Secret Service Agents In Mariposa County near Yosemite National Park, Mariposa County Sheriff's Sergeant Roderick Sinclair, 43, was driving with his partner, Deputy Rod McKean, 51, when "for some reason, [he didn't] know why," Sinclair crossed the center line and hit the second of the three Secret Service cars, which went tumbling down a 10-foot embankment. The agents, who were in California on special assignment to protect Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain during her visit to Yosemite National park, died instantly. Sgt. Sinclair was calculated to be driving westbound at 64 mph in a 35 mph zone, while the eastbound vehicles driven by Phillips and LaBarge were both halfway across the center dividing line into the westbound lane, so the district court concluded that Sinclair was 70% at fault and, accordingly, it ordered the United States to indemnify the County of Mariposa for 30% of its settlement--$1.2 million. The judge disallowed evidence that showed that Sinclar was under influence of drugs.

Nonsense. The right just wants to spend more money diffrently. Funny when their ox gets gored with their own petard.
