With all the deliberate actions throughout history that led to you hurtling across the landscape at high speed, it's amazing you can blame the deer...
To make that happen, your ancestors explored, mined, refined, manufactured, regulated, and exploited a staggering amount of resources.
You killed the deer, for no reason other than carelessness and inattention.

Came out of nowhere? Really?
Call John Davidson and Sarah Purcell...

And buy an American car ya commie.

That's not Funneeee RJ!

Had an incident back 35 years ago that almost killed me and our crew.

We were doing late Eve/Night ILS approaches at NAS Pt. Mugu from the south (off the ocean). On our third rotation, just after sunset, we were a mile or so off the threshold at 1500 agl. Then... BOOOOM and a second BOOOOOM!!!!

WTF!!!!!

Alarms are going off, blood all over my face we were dropping faster than shet and all I could think of was to get ready of a water impact. I wiped the blood off my visor, got outta my seat, got on the ICS to see if my HAC and Co-Hac WERE OK. No response from my C-HAC but the Hac was getting control of the helo and calling out MAYDAY and telling the tower we were declaring and emergency for an immediate landing on the numbers. I checked my C-HAC and he was out like a light. I raised his visor that had all sorts of blood and feathers on it and saw a goose head impaled into his forehead. I put my hand on it to stop the bleeding etc. When the Hac (Vietnam HAL-5 driver) looked over, he immediately calmly told the tower we needed Medical to be standing by.

We landed two minutes later, got the C-HAC into the ambulance etc. Shut down the bird and then started to inspect WTF happened?

We had flown into a flock of Canadian Geese and two of em blew threw both of the windscreens and one hit the C-HAC. The inside of the helo cabin was all full of blood, feathers and bird guts/shet all over. I was up till 0200 cleaning it out. The C-Hac recovered and got back into the saddle three months later.

Damn!

So how many animal vs vehicle incidents have you been involved in?

Did you know that driving slowly will help prevent accidents?

No. Started later than normal cus after living in Crowley for 8 years, I learned that most deer impacts this time of the season occur between 5-7am. I left my house here in Bishop at 7:15.

You should be on the stream at 5 am. Early and late, amigo.

One of the most terrifying experiences of my life was driving through Southern Illinois at dusk. Boy, was that a mistake!

The diet of a roadkill moose has more effect on the taste than anything else. You guys seem pretty clueless. Ever eat several hundred pounds of roadkill? Just talking out your a$$es again?

Yes. A lot of roadkill from all seasons. For years. And plenty of September harvested moose from different regions of the state. How about you?

Just soak it in milk for 1 to 2 days. Takes any "tang" right out of it.

You can harvest RK in MT; it is the proper thing to do. Just fill out a simple state form in pencil and send it to fish and game the next day.

Deers are pretty small compared to elks and the one that would be the worst to hit are the mooses. Mosses have long-assed legs that put their bodies well above the windshields of most vehicles, until they are hit and that usually puts them through the windshield. The potential for large animal vs. vehicle incident is enough to give the Caulifournian a ticket to purchase a big truck/van, a big ol' coal rolling mobile, if'n ya know what I mean.

You might want some kinda modern 'cow catcher' up there in Clark Fork Le Chief. Especially if you make any forays into MT/TheCabs zone but I hear the fishin' sucks there, so maybe not.

It's "deer", not "deers".

Works for beer though, as in "How many beers have you had:? but not "I like lots of beers".

There is a stretch of road that is really bad for deer this time of the year that I drive every day. A guy feels like a Mitsubishi Zero in the Marianas Turkey Shoot every morning. :0

No need to abide to that old BS tale Gary.

When your good and got the right ties/flies to match the hatch or any of the other goodies that the locals are going after, you can fish any time of the day and hit em. Some of the my best days (100 plus hook ups) were between 10AM-3PM.

Up until this month there were many antelope on the high chaparral where I shoot, but antelope season starts in 6 days.

Word must have gone around the lopenet.

Good Question...
Sep 15, 2015 - 06:41pm PT
^^ water temps and air temps play a bigger part in fishing...time of day dependent on these to a large extent...so you're both right, now get back to the serious business of deers + beers and sphincters.
