Then there was the Chinese cook that got caught with a dead roadkill deer in the elevator of the Sierra center mall in mammoth . Can’ remember if he was going to serve it to the public but I think he got a ticket.

Around here they stay off the roads...

...and in our yards.

When I lived in Bend I heard a story that a Chinese restaurant owner had been caught clubbing geese in a park at night. Another time in high school I was at a Chinese restaurant eating what was supposed to be teriyaki chicken, or pork. Not sure wasn't labeled on the buffet. Was a bit too stringy and tangy. Only ate a few. My friend however are a massive pile of them. Week later, cover of the paper: shutdown due to butchered cat remains in the dumpster.

I guess they figure some people will put bullcatchers on the fronts of their trucks and go out "hunting".

I had a roasted fawn leg that was pretty good.

I've seen lots of deer hit by cars. Many people don't realize that over 60mph the headlights don't "see" far enough to stop in time.

AND DON'T SWERVE! A friend of mine knew 2 people killed by swerving to avoid a damn rabbit!

I swerved to avoid a rock in the road while towing a trailer too big and then the rock hopped away and that damn trailer started whipping me like a run sailor. Gawddam bunny.

I remember BITD driving into Horton Creek campground after driving up from SoCal on a Friday night in winter. As one pulled in there were hundreds of deer eyes reflected in the headlights.

It happens so fast at night you dont even have time to brake. I had just left Monticello UT after the sun set. I was doing 50 in my Subbie and next thing I see is a deers head just left of my drivers side headlight. I did not even see it move from right to left across the lane. Took out my parking light, and a pair of skivvies. That adrenaline shot kept me going have way across the rez.

Yeah, don't swerve, and don't slam on the brakes.

Maybe I was lucky to have that mantra burned in. Don't know why, but it must have sunk in, because the day I killed a dog was a day I didn't kill a young girl or kill myself and another driver.

Rolling down a gravel road in a 3/4-ton pickup in central BC after some fire action, there was a young girl walking a big dog on the right shoulder. And a car coming toward me in the left lane. No big deal. The sun was shining, the road was plenty wide, and...

...and then the dog escaped her control and jumped into the road in front of me.

Swerve right... and kill the girl.

Swerve left... and collide head-on with the car in the left lane.

Jam on the brakes... and god knows what the truck would do in the gravel.

The kid was devastated. But she lived, and I hope one day she understood...
