One Modelo, one Lagunitas IPA, in progress. In Degnan's Loft.

Where Is Pete? Still hauling down the junk show? Basking in his 15 minutes of fame?

Went climbing today on Swan Slab with Dave Y. and some great young folks from SLO who were crushing it. Good times at Facelift. Tomorrow off to Tuolomne

SLUUUURP!

I think WTF mentioned that fine word, but left out some UUUU's.

It's great to be back drinking western U.S. wines again, as fall starts.

Nice alpinglow tonight on the choss-cliffs above Choss Creek.

Friday night has come and gone. It's Saturday night now, and I am not drunk. Nor was I drunk last night. Well, not in any serious way. But the wine...

Wayno came back to Seattle for a few days this week, to do some painting on their house here. We haven't seen him much since he moved to the East Side, and I've missed him. Not only is he good company, he shares my love of food and wine. He's worked in the food-and-wine business for decades, the last fifteen years or so in an Italian restaurant owned by some serious wine freaks. It was "Family Restaurant" and the wine list, while better than most such places, wasn't anything spectacular. But the cellar...

So, knowing he'd be joining us for dinner on Friday, I braised a massive pot of short ribs and oxtails, and dug into my own cellar...

Oh, yeah. Braised oxtails and barolo. It really doesn't get better than that at the dinner table on an autumn evening.

Drinking some not bad at all Moon X Pinot Noir from Trader Joe's, the wine steward's pick.

Amazingly, Anita514 and I are going ice climbing with Lulz aka Luc Monodoigt tomorrow. It has been a while since I have climbed ice, so one wonders how I shall do?

It's all steep waterfall ice here in the Great White North, and after the sunny but shall we stay crumbly walls of El Cap, begs the question, "why?"

I got the chop today so I think a few oxycontins are indicated.
Didn't wash 'em down with anything stronger than water thought.

When I read "got the chop" last night, all I thought was, how can a dead guy post?

It occurred to me you must have had surgery! How'd it go, eh?

Special Sunday edition newsflash - your Dr. Piton Big Wall Wine Tip of the Day:

True wine lovers will be familiar with the five primary Bordeaux varietals: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, Malbec and Petite Verdot.

But who here has ever had Petite Verdot on its own? Most commonly it is found in Bordeaux blends aka Meritages in California.

Enter Petite Verdot in the Dr. Piton Wine-O-Meter here in the Great White North of area code 514, and you get:

Four thumbs up!

First time Anita and I have ever had it on its own, Trader Joe's 2015 Paso Robles Lot #154.

Absolutely a superb varietal on its very own! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
