Morning TAD.....

Its raining again!!!! YES YES YES

big puddles forming up and the Creek is running strong.

I wonder if this is the year that Turlock Boulder -- Rolls over!!??

For those of you who are familiar with the place, but haven't visited for a few years, the last round of housing made the water flow differently than it was before. So every time we get good strong rains a creek flows roughly parallel to the trail, from the Lions Head to Topanga. The ground between Turlock and Concert Rock has been getting eroded more and more each year... for example to do Pink Floyd you could stand on the ground and grab the starting holds (unless you are one of the sick midgets) Now... even the tallest climbers must run and jump up a long way to catch hold. The ground has gone down almost two feet... the ground below Hoof n Mouth is going away quickly and it won't be long before the whole thing is undermined and it will flip over on to one side.... New problems!

we will keep ya updated.

All the dirt just below Peaters feet is now gone... and back behind the truck you can see PF's starting holds.... you almost need to do some moves now to get to the hoof.

Geologic Time Marches on.

Yeah, there was a time that the traverse from the left of that picture to the mouth hole was called 'Short Man's Revenge' because it was all so low and close to the ground. Now I can barely reach the starting holds.

I used to boulder at stoney from 69 to the late 70s and have been out there again recently and the changes are remarkable as, I suppose, they should be. Some really nice routes that I used to enjoy are just gone and the crowds of folks on the weekends are pretty remarkable as well. Change is inevitable I guess. Changes are just new challenges and to some extent I think that's a very good thing.

Paul.... yes... things have changed, a lot more climbers are going to Stoney... but the smiles of these new climbers are the same sort of smiles I had on my face 44 years ago.... that stays the same.

The place has a pretty good vibe... new climbers getting better and learning the ropes.

Like Jenna here, she finally got "The Crack" AKA McHales Overhang... took her one year or so of working hard to get better.

"I must be really old". .... Barbarian, no-- you are ancient, a fossil from an earlier epoch. Kids today don't even think you existed... they are skeptical of me even.... but some speak of you in hushed reverent tones.

Nice Rain soaked weekend.... went to Stoney looking to clean up some ugly mess. I took out one that I could see every morning, way up high... its invisible now.

Found this stuff.... might need to start with some Kilts first off. This was done by a whole crew... time for it to go.

and this...

Good thoughts, for an old friend.

I was going to stop and check out Stoney Point after surfing Rincon with my son this weekend but the rain shut that down, however; this always catches my eye going up the 101 grade out of Oxnard. I found some obscure info on it- I'd have to believe it has some local history or access issues. It seems to be in the same band of rock as Stoney Point.

Much different than Stoney. It's Volcanic braccia (I think). Sharp and sheds in layers. Closer resemblance to echo cliffs. This is Conejo mountain area, parts known as Mystery Science Theater and the outcast Boulder.

Contractor....that catches my eye also.... so does the Poison oak forest blocking the way.

Just across the FWY from that is a Park... the Park has a big ass boulder right by the parking lot. Sometimes it's off limits some times the fence is gone. Over hangs on three sides with holes and crimps....coolest spot to boulder inland.

Great info and thanks! I'm always looking to mix in a boulder or two when heading North to meet my son (Cal Poly) for a surf.

contractor on your way down the grade toward the nard on the left is what they call Indian head. stainless Steve Edwards and David Gould were the ones who put the bolts into the volcanic rock on that thing. in the early 90's I climbed all of em. kind of fun watching all the cars on the freeway.
guyman the Camarillo springs boulder is closed but yeah it was a fun traverse just like boulder 1. the bouldering on the top of the grade mtn is CHOSS filled with scorpions.
my grandpa lived at Camarillo springs so my twin brother and I would hit up the grade climbs. grandpa told me el cap was out of my league boy was he wrong..

Nice Pyro! I'd love to stretch out on some boulders between driving.

I also found out from my son that El Capitan was uncrowded and going off while I was grovelling at Rincon (Friday).

Thanks for the history pyro. Bolts on Indian head are shot out, no good. I e been meaning to replace them, hopefully soon, and lead and clean that line.

Hey all,
My friend Rica is going to LA for the week from Canada- she lived in Malibu for years-but has never been to Stoney as she only started to climbing recently.
Do you guys do the Wednesday? meet-up still?

Stoney Point is closed for the winter. It being sandstone and getting rained on every day means that it falls apart if you try to climb on it right now. Try again in a month or two.
