Bonnie Kamps visited the Bob Kamps remembrance plaque at Stoney Point for the first time on Monday, February 2nd, going to it with Andy Lichtman and Tom Higgins, both longtime friends of Bonnie and Bob. Pic by Bonnie.

Fittingly, a group of young climbers came to the plaque just when we all were about to leave and got to hear a bit of Bob history. Bob lives on.

The plaque sits at the base of a wall Bob traversed for his work outs, often climbing back and forth several times. His top number of traverses without stop is 26 as memorialized in the number on the bottom of the plaque.

We had good strong memories of Bob and our times at Stoney with him. I will always remember Bob, climbing partner, friend, mentor, fierce competitor on the boulders too, witty and fit to the end.

Every Day.....

Pyro... the monument was set up.

Over by pot-holes, the "26" on the plaque is his record number of laps on pot holes....

Im going there today after work, I can get in about 20 min on the old man circuit... all sub V deals. You now qualify!!!!

Ryan, what other cracks would you consider to be among the best in los angeles county? It's a pretty short list.

Possible candidates:
Electromagnetic Crack - 5.10d ** This 60' corner crack is near Acton, and takes cams to 2".

Crack Dealer - 5.10d * this crack is in Malibu Creek State Park just before you get to the stumbling blocks. A short 5.8 approach pitch leads to this overhanging hand crack. Cams to 3.5" with extra 2 to 3 inch.

Unknown name - 5.10b * Crack on Piuma Pinnacle. This crack is nice but a sloppily glued hold low on the route detracts from what would be a nice climb, plus the funky eye bolts from a hardware store reduce the stoke significantly, IMHO. No gear needed, it's bolted!!

Several nice short cracks up at Horse Flats exist too.

PYRO, what can I say - first you are part of Honda blowing Stoney to pieces - then you call Bill DUDE.
That surfing stuff is fine but you need to get back on the rock & get yourself together.

HAHAHA!

Pyro and levy arguing about cracks in LA!
I vote Mugu rock!

Levy, Isn't that thing at Malibu like 20 ft long?

How about the roof crack at the overpass bridge?
or the one in the parking garage???

Pyro has been smoking too much surf wax...

I know Levy has been to every crack in LA and never once did I hear him talk about anything worthwhile, so for his mention of the ML crack, I agree. Sight unseen.

I'm headed out to some 100 ft basalt splitters this weekend at Frog Buttress.
I will let y'all know if It's worthwhile.

Cheers and beers!

Pyro... I don't know I was in Phoenix for like 4 days....

I went to the Beardsley Boulders and did some problems .... sort of like Stoney, you can tell it was an old time partyspot with lots of 1970 beer can pull tabs, broken glass, old fire rings and assorted trash.....

I felt right at home.
