A dear friend of mine in Jackson Hole, who has never met Bobby Model, sent this amazing note to me yesterday, and I thought it was worth posting here.
cheers....

"Oh Liz....I wish there could be words that would somehow give the beautiful faces in theses images, and yours, some explanation, some peace.

What a fine, fine young man, what love he must have given to be so loved.

His life was a success, from this viewpoint alone.

I am aware that he was accomplished,.... yet as the years grow in greater presence in my own life, it is love that comes round to be the truest blessing.

So glad this world had him. So glad the ways of heaven hold dear his family and close friends. When we suffer, when our hearts are so broken, the arms of God are tight around us. We know this by the wind, every leaf on every tree in Autumn that becomes it’s truest color as the air of night cools. The song of the Coyotes and the wingspans of migration are mighty testimony to this presence.

Bobby left in a beautiful time. The longing call of the mating Elk will soon give way to the silence of the deep snows. The hearts of those who are of his soul can find some rest in the sacred season ahead.

Come spring his essence will call to you each with the presentation of all new life that is carried and born in the quiet of these blessed months ahead. When the flowers are again called to come above ground by the wind brought west on the wings of Hummingbirds and Bluebirds....Bobby’s presence will again announce him joyfully in the lives of those who lived through this time of his passing over.

Seems a wisdom in him with this time of passing over. He perhaps will fly the Alps, the Himalayas, the Andes...and return anew with spring to those who hold presence within his soul.

He knew a dear friend of clear heart in you, Liz. Nothing small there. A gift he took with him to keep always, in all ways.

My love to every courageous heart who comes to the ceremonies of his earth-life next month. May this be a gentle experience.

Please let me know how you are, and know that my prayers are nearby. Love, L."

hey there gradyphoto, say, sometimes the most lovely and special gifts of encouragement to our souls, come in such ways as this... i can picture the seasonal change, and the feeling towards bobby, by his loved-ones, able to see new life--even if it must now be among cherished memories, the fact it: it is still part of his life "multiplying as seeds do" after a "dead and dormant season"...

thank you for sharing these words, it gives us insight even deeper, to the fine friend that bobby was to all...

condolences to you, at this hard time...

Bobby Model Charitable Fund

To honor Bobby’s life, as well as his commitment and love of the Balti people in northern Pakistan, a charitable fund has been established to provide much needed funding to remote medical facilities in the area.

Summary:

In the northern areas of Pakistan, deep in the Karakoram mountain range, lie two small villages that hold a very special place in Bobby’s heart. Askoli and Hushe are well known to mountaineers, as they are the point of entry and exit (respectively) to those wanting to climb some of the world’s most challenging mountains. These villages are extremely remote, and therefore medical resources for locals are seriously lacking. Each has a “medical facility” but both are inadequately stocked and unable to provide for the villagers who have no other means to treat illnesses as simple as conjunctivitis or as serious as broken limbs, or worse. Bobby knows many of the people who call these places home and considers them to be his close and dear friends. Any amount of funding to these facilities will give them the basic supplies they need to simply survive in the beautiful, yet often times harsh environment in which they live.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to:

The Law of the Mountain reigns supreme with flags unfurled.
May God bless his friends and family.

This is a very tragic loss and my heart goes out to his family and friends. I climbed with Bobby a bunch when I worked at a ranch outside Cody and he taught me how to shoot guns in the beartooth Mts and instructed me on how to use a chainsaw to cut wood rather than the "old fashion" way back in 1993 & 1994 and later climbed in Hueco with him years later. He will be greatly missed. ~Maria

hey there maria and healyje
say, perhaps we should have bumped this up more---perhaps there were other folks, too, that did not know this, as well...

very sorry if we neglected... we all had hoped and prayed so very much, and he was "really climbling" this awful injury...

Neebee, thanks for the bump.

I never met Bobby, but heard many tales from Todd long ago. I still have a poster Todd sent me, Bobby was probably the photographer of it.

Wyoming is a small town, extra small when dealing with the climbing crowd.

I still get chills remembering phone calls I received.

As Courtney Skinner once told me, "there are never strangers in the mountains, just friends you have not met".
