Not a ton of visual change in these evergreen forests...but you can feel it...

Talus, beautiful pictures (as usual).

Chiloe, over the years, meeting Gill's criteria has been hard to impossible. Now he's gone and gotten older than us and is using that to establish yet another level we haven't achieved. The only difference this time is, sooner or later, we'll all catch up with him, an eventuality that never presented itself in the bouldering realm.

Bob D, climbing Thursday would be nice, but methusalistic credentials notwithsanding, I'm still a working slob with a daughter to put through college (and, shudder, beyond...). However, the professing profession being what it is, I might be able to climb on Friday...

I'm supposed to be professing in DC most of this week and Durham the week after,
but if we're talking about the weekend of Oct 12 I'd be tempted to crash the party.

Being precocious, Cannon threatened to skip fall yesterday.

Those Cannon skies are saying "Don't bother to approach. Stay warm. Leave me alone."

Did you see the Alpinist Cannon extravaganza?

You missed out on some scary-flakes, lichen-coated, I'm-sorry-about-this-approach-honey
adventure climbing under friendlier skies the day before.

Yeah, Chiloe, I ran from those spooky Cannon skies for the less adventurous Echo, which was perfectly sunny and warm. My re-subscript to Alpinist got goofed (my fault, not theirs) and so I missed #21 (didn't realize there was a problem till I saw the issue in a store), but the circulation folks are hookin' me up.

What route is that at Sundown??? That lichen funkiness at the top looks like it might have made for a sketchy finish.

What route is that at Sundown???

We climbed Thwarthog, which I've always wanted to do ever since Peter Yost explained the name way back when.
But I never got 'round to it until Sunday. From the condition of the route I think a lot of people never get 'round to it.

It has some great climbing (bottom photo on the previous page shows pitch 2), fine exposure and views.
The adventure level felt a step up from Cathedral, though.
Stacked flakes and expandos for your holds and gear both, good places to tread lightly and not fall.

Jingus ball-nut and 00 TCU in this photo I wouldn't trust for aid.

This is great! I'm going to miss most of the show, as I'm flying west this weekend for a week's vacation in Lost Vegas. So thanks for the vicarious show of New England (and other areas) leafy fireworks!

Taken just a bit less than one year ago:

This photo, and the greener one I kicked off this thread with, are sort of mirrored --
each is looking towards the viewpoint (on Sundown's Main and Far Cliffs) from which the other photo was taken.
