"See you all on taco salad?"...

WIDE FETISH is much more lively and interesting...

"taco Salad" = Holsom White Bread...(JUST my opinion)...

Plus on WIDE FETISH, posting photo's/videos of pretty much whatever, is allowed...

as evidenced by the Moose bunghole shot...

LOFL!!!...

Classic!!!...

At first I hoped it was an artfully contrived representation utilizing another body part but no it is pure bunghole

Does anyone know...the exact time that the ST Forum will be shuttered?

Is it 12:01 am, June 1?

Or 12:00 midnight, June 1?

Or some other random time, whenever someone has the inclination to pull the plug?

Thanks for the good run CMAC. I remember when you first started making topos and people were all complainy about how much information was on the drawings.

In retrospect, the complaints seems so quaint. Nowadays, I can watch you tube video of any climb I want, by route. It doesn't change much, the desire to go see for yourself is as strong as ever.

Too bad this thing isn't worth the money- I loved the TR and connecting with old friends, and making new ones.

Yo CMAC & RJ:

Surely you have noticed how nice and civilized Supertopo's forum have become now that you "laid down the law."

So how about reconsidering? Keep the forums alive and kicking!

The crowd will be so appreciative and may even behave ... for a while.

Potential cost of litigation...hmmm, Chouinard put forth that as one of the reasons he divested himself of Chouinard Equipment. The truth went beyond that.
Whenever I hear “potential cost of litigation” presented as a reason there is a little beep from my bullshit detector.
In YC’s case there was real litigation that went nowhere and the spectre of possible future litigation.
Anyone who gets married, trust me, runs the risk down the road of “potential cost of litigation.”
....hasn’t stopped too many people.

It's a bit much for me to digest. I have met so many nice people through this place. I probably use it a bit as a therapy outlet as well...

WHOA!!! I just heard that Supertopo is being shut down. Even though I haven't been on here for a long while (years), this makes me sad that it is coming to an end. Thanks for hosting us here, and I really have met awesome friends from this site. I wanted to sign off, hope I see people from here in person down the road!

Damn, this sucks. I haven't been on here in a long while (couldn't even remember my password), but I'm sad to see the forum go. Lots of cool memories here.

Now, can anyone find that WELD_IT thread where he did a gear review on some plastic bags as vapor barrier liners?

Another poster alerted me to this sh#t.

Can't believe this is shutting down. It doesn't make any sense to me.
Such is life.

RJ -

1) First, my apology on posting the boobs thread was shut only due to advertiser complaints. I could swear I read that was listed as a reason for the upset over that thread at the time; that advertisers stated they had a strong female base and that they had received complaints themselves about supporting a board that included a thread(s) that reveled in the objectification of women.

I do apologize if that was not the case, or I mistinterpreted someone who was not in the know(ST mgmt) who made that statement as a matter of opinion when it was m=not a factual statement.

2) Would it be okay for us to create threads on other forums where we included a link to ST threads, specifically the various memorials(John Bachar, BVB and so on)?

If it would be okay, do you know if the link would work(Meaning if someone clicked, or copy/pasted - would that address connect to the archived link, or would it generate an error message?

3) IS there a way we Supertopians could ante up some donations to help defray the costs that have been incurred with ST over all these years? A PayPal address we could kick in at? Or some other fairly easy way to finally do what we maybe ought to have thought to do years ago?

HappieGrrrl:

Thanks for your note. Here are my two cents on the things you asked.

1) First, my apology on posting the boobs thread was shut only due to advertiser complaints. I could swear I read that was listed as a reason for the upset over that thread at the time.

No apology needed. I suspect someone made a post speculating that an advertiser was the reason, but that speculation was incorrect. What actually happened was that a forum member sent a Feedback message to Chris and I pointing out the boobs thread, Chris and I discussed it on email and agreed it was inappropriate, and then I personally deleted the boobs thread. All that happened within minutes of us being notified about it, which had nothing to do with any advertiser.

2) Would it be okay for us to create threads on other forums where we included a link to ST threads

Yes, of course, you can link to ST threads. No problem at all and the URLs will remain the same on June 1st as they are today. The only change will be the images will no longer appear, and the threads will be locked. The URLs will be exactly the same, and the site search will still work like it does today. Trip Reports will continue to function just like they are today, with images being displayed like they are now. The only diff with TRs will be that commenting will be locked. We will move the server to a lower-cost hosting configuration since the high-performance requirements we have today will be much lower after these changes, but that change in server hardware should not result in a noticeable change in load times (in fact, without images, load time might be much faster even on a lower cost server configuration).

3) IS there a way we Supertopians could ante up some donations to help defray the costs that have been incurred with ST over all these years?

That is very kind of you, but not necessary. That kind of funding effort would be better directed at some new Forum destination such as you have started at CTS or a non-profit climbing-related cause. Our concern is not with past-costs, but with avoiding future potential litigation costs.
