Hi Brandon.

Sounds crappy, and like an opportunity for a fresh start.

My operation is hiring, the only caveat is we are looking for folks who will stay for a while. We train on equipment and processes, pay well, and have great (industry leading) benefits.

We are close to Winter Park, Empire, and Georgetown in Colorado.

Brandon-

Left you a voice mail. Been there, done that. It ain't fun and tears one up. It may sound trite, but every cloud has a silver lining. Every storm passes and the sun will shine again.

Thing is to learn from the experience and move forward with a positive attitude.

Good luck Brandon.... just keep in mind that people will still f@ck with you even if you're armed...

I like the India idea... the timing is right.

Drunks with guns and a history of sh#t decisions. Don't come here. Sounds like your ex is right to fear you.

A little harsh, but get where you are coming from. Couldn't figure why Brandon seems it is necessary to be armed. Taking weapons across state lines is a potential felony. All he needs is to have a brake light out on his trip. Get pulled over. Drunk or not they will search the car.

edit: personally, not sure he is thinking clearly. A cross country drive in February on the 80? In a car that is suspect with regards to reliability? With no money? That may not go as planned.

Yup, I'm a dick. But I'm not a coward. I'd rather take a bullet than kill someone. I have honor

Brandon seems to be a nice person. Seems he is having a knee jerk reaction.

Brandon, maybe chill out for a while? Sort things out? Can your family fly you to CO? Just thinking out loud. Worst thing to do when one is stressed and confused is to make rash decisions.

That said, if you drink while you are with your family, you are toast. You are walking a tight rope. One slip and you are f*#ked.

Escaping a toxic environment via road trip can be beneficial in that it can give one a clearer perspective of the toxic environment... stay calm brandon , forgive the ex , and make solid decisions...rj

Not sure I agree with that. You can change your environment, but take your baggage with you. Geographical change does no good if there is not a mental change.

Yeah, like therapy. Maybe a good idea?

Yeah, like therapy. Maybe a good idea?

Yes. Addiction is not the problem. There are underlying reasons for addiction. Resolving the underlying reasons is one tool to beating it.

John, you've always come across as a stand up guy. Also, there were some pretty "interesting" comments on these threads. BJ comes to mind.

Anyway, seriously, best wishes. The taco is gonna taco, FWIW. More good than otherwise it seems to me.

If you have work where you are now,
could be good to build up some cash and make sure your car is good
before going on a long road trip.
If you are doing a planned visit with family, that does not require as much cash to smooth over times between temp work.
Guard your sobriety, though - if it depresses you to stay in your house,
the family visit could be a good break.
Travel in May on 80 is a lot easier than in February, though.

I have to side with Flip Flop - lose the gun. I know 2 Supertopo posters who earned themselves an instant divorce by pulling a gun on their wives, the news is full of stories every single week as well of wives who not so mysteriously disappeared forever from similar circumstances. Your [ex] wife was wise and correct to call the troopers, so you should come to terms with that. Your intent is irrelevant, it was how you were perceived. As for things not going as planned - you said she told you she was leaving, and you said you were going to treatment - what didn't go according to plan?

Yup. Anger can f*#k you up.

what didn't go according to plan?

My guess is the program he was in was worthless. One can't get a good treatment program for $4,000. A bad program does more harm than good.

My Grand Dad was a tough old coal mining country bastard who practiced what he called "BROGAN MAINTENANCE".

What that meant was there comes a time in the life of every person where someone needed to stick a hard-toed boot up your sorry ass to kick some sense back into you.

The message was clear -

Quit your goddamn whining and grow the fukk up.

Simple and to the point.
