Donini

Is this an experiment? Are you counting the unintended or hidden intended consequences of this thread?

DMT -same one Tom advised you 2 years ago to get when you asked the same question. http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=2839046&tn=0&mr=0

Sig P226 in 9mm.

Dingus asked:
"Speaking of off topic, I am considering finally biting the bullet and purchasing a christmas pistol for personal protection and projection.

What gun should I get?

A big +1 on couchmaster’s recommendation of a Sig Sauer P226. Very reliable gun.

Yeah - that was Toms suggestion from that 2016 link. I have several of them. They made a bunch of versions including a 6" long model directed for target shooting. (The P226 X6).

If you buy one stamped "West Germany" that isn't rusted, you'll be happy. You can get @ 5000 rounds through before they suggest changing the upper spring out. These things are like the energizer bunny......

I waited till the kids were grown up till I bought them, figure $ priority's would be the kids first. Once I saw that their college and all that was taken care of, I jumped onboard. Back when I was in the Army I had lusted after a well tuned up Colt 1911, the ones I shot in the army were total sh#t for accuracy, most likely having gone through WW2 and multiple other folks they were worn out. So I bought some high end 1911's (Wilson and a Les Baer) but found I liked my Sig Sauer Earnest Langdon P220 I'd bought used much better than either and it was cheaper too. That led to the P226 for 9mm, the basic pistol is identical except in 9mm.

With the 1911's, they have a safety you flip off to fire it, call that single action (SA). The Sigs can come that way but commonly they are DA/SA (Dual action first round then SA). There isn't a safety, in it's place is a harder first pull to get the round off. It's still safe, lots of police carry them loaded and stuffed into a holster, but it's easy to pull and fire.

Mostly I just like to shoot. Like people like to bowl. Except around here you can link a shooting trip in with a climbing or hiking trip (if you chose your location well) and you can't do that with a bowling trip. I don't need them for self defense, although once at 3am with only my underwear on, while chasing a guy down the cold dark street who had tried to break into our house, I was reconsidering that policy....Of course, the bright side is that the policewoman who showed up first could be relaxed as she could clearly see I was "unarmed" so to speak, standing there talking to her all but near naked in my skimpy skintight briefs.

I have a 226, but it is a bit much to carry.

Sig 938 is the best compact 9mm.

I don't carry. I know folks who do carry a P226 and it's big like Ron says. The new P365 is suppose to be tight little package. I have a little Ruger for those few rare times I want something hidden but on me. Haven't needed it yet.

If you want to carry, the Glock G19 is most likely the most common carry pistol in the country. The G26 is great as well. You know, we could start up that other thread, there are over 200 posts on it. http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=2839046&tn=0&mr=0

Funny but my first post over there calls out Piton Ron for not showing up first with his usual good advise:-) .

G19 is still a bit much.

I only carry mine (all tricked out of course) when I carry a 9mm carbine that takes Glock mags.

I’ve been known to carry on occasion. This pic was a real hit on Tinder:

Sig 938 is the best compact 9mm.

The 938 is a poorly repackaged colt mustang which is a design intended for .380 acp.. I had high hopes.

Sig 'repaired' mine like 9 times. Two new frames.

The two piece guide rod is a fatal flaw.

Put a couple thousand down the pipe before you trust it.

Well I had a Mustang that was worthless jamarama.

Had nothing but luck with the 938. Did side by side with Taurus Millennium, Kimber Solo, Sig 239, Glock 43, Ruger 9 + LCP, and Kahr.

The slide stop on the Solo broke on the first shot.

Pretty morbid Gary. Lets not forget hot cars and drowning.

Sometimes you have to wonder if stupidity isn't the basic building block of the universe.
