Heidi found a stick & whapped the snake a couple times.

A flagrant violation of the Prime Directive

And the end to Fritz's story is how the neighbor's garden is decimated and the gopher snake is in therapy.

You think rabbits scream just try putting a mouse in the microwave for 5-8 seconds before feeding it to a snake.

Ron! Per your summing up the incident:

And the end to Fritz's story is how the neighbor's garden is decimated and the gopher snake is in therapy.

Heidi really likes gopher snakes, but her heart went out to the baby bunny. Happily, the nearest neighbor to that launch site is about 30 miles away.

We do have a small population of gopher snakes that share our ranchette with us, as well as a small population of cottontails, whose young, both the snakes & Harley (the cat) eat. Apparently, the predation keeps our rabbit population small.

Here's a photo of Ralph, the gopher snake, in our lawn. (All our gopher snakes are named Ralph.)

Speaking of "Ralph".

Years ago a neighbor who raised a very valuable breed of rabbits found the headless body of his favorite rabbit on his front lawn. He went around the neighborhood to warn them that there was a weasel or something very vicious making the rounds.

About 2 minutes after he left my neighbor, Kurt, and I , Kurt's German shepherd got a weird look on its face and vomited the missing head.

If said mouse came from a pet store and the issues is you have no means of caring for the mouse, a return to the pet store is in order. The one I worked at would take the mouse back if something interfered with your ability to get to feeding the snake. You could also pick up supplies for keeping the mouse. We recomended this option because sometimes snakes unexpectedly start a shed and become temporarily blind. We had fairly cheap rigs. This was the 90s and you could get set up for about $20 then.

Anybody see Paul Manafort's $18K python jacket?

They should make him wear it in prison, and offer odds on how long he lasts.

I have a friend who used to own about 7 pythons including a Burmese that weighed 125 lbs.
Rick is a muscular guy and used to handle it by himself.
One day it went for him and just about got him.
He never did a solo mission again.

So Lynn's gonna end up with a pet snake AND a pet mouse. That woman's gonna be running a regular petting zoo before long.

A proper host should always keep a couple of mice around to feed unannounced visiting reptiles and varmints, according to Miss M. Stewart.

LOL Brian and Jay..... good stuff. I actually managed to keep the mouse alive for the whole 12 days, have gotten word that snake successfully ate said mouse, and that's well and dandy. Did my part. ;)

PS Lynn: FROZEN mice, cough cough.... lol, cheers all!
