It sure does piss me off when people spout their personal convictions. I’m more the strong silent type, so I didn’t even post this.
I saw a bumper sticker that someone had posted on their Prius the other day that read:
“Cool Prius”
Nobody
They just wanted everyone to know that they didn’t buy their Prius because anyone ever thought it was cool, they bought it despite its lack of coolness, because of their righteous higher values, like environmental consciousness.
I wouldn’t put that on my Prius. I’m just not that self-righteous.
Just thought I’d share that so you knew how righteous I am. But you go ahead and do it your way.
There’s always a bigger teacup. But with any luck, our self-righteousness will help keep us alive until we’re dead. I don’t recommend the alternative.

yes I know Roy, but I also knew that such an image could be very controversial right now for many different reasons, and perhaps there are legitimate discussions to be had.
Like so much of modern discourse, the previous thread wasn't a discussion, really, it was two camps yelling at each other, neither listening.
It is a rather sad state that the word pudendum comes from the latin root, "thing to be ashamed of," and a word I learned when William F. Buckley Jr. used it, correctly of course. What a strange thing, to be ashamed of our own bodies, and require that others be likewise ashamed. But that shaming seems to go back thousands of years to the beginnings of western culture.

I sent a note to the SuperTopo folks on Saturday that essentially asked them to consider moderating the discussion due to the toxic, abusive, and insulting posts by some participants. I don't know if that note prompted the disappearance of the discussion, or if ST folks decided to remove the thread for some other reason. Whatever their reason, I wish SuperTopo would explain why they did it to clarify their position. Abusive behavior? Unacceptable content? All of these? None of these?
Difference of opinion and healthy discussion are awesome, but personally I think attacking people anonymously is no more acceptable than doing it to someone's face.

Though you meant well, from what I've observed, Chris, RJ, and whomever, never babysit and they don't really moderate.
If they get complaints, they just strike threads from the record in total.
I've spoken with two people recently who've had their accounts deactivated, and there was no explanation given to them as to their particular transgression.
I was once given a warning, with no specifics as to what it was I was doing wrong, and in fact it looked like a form letter.
For all I know, they sent one to everyone participating in a given thread, shotgun style.
This is a very hands-off style of management.
The one thing they've been very clear about: there will be no photographs posted of unclothed human female chests, or the hammer comes down. But it would seem that it takes a complaint to bring it about, because the "moderators" don't seem to do much monitoring, if any.
There are no moderators: just Chris Mac getting his shirt sleeve tugged on from time to time. And then it's "lights out" on the ball field.
