Jody, thanks for the replies.

It doesn't seem to me that anyone is predicting a catastrophe here.

It is more that WE FOLKS are trying to prevent the possibility of such, by and large.

It is a wilderness area, after all. Any compartmentalization in order to get to resources is out the window because ROADS will encroach on the parts not dedicated to the extraction of resources. And POWER LINES. And SETTLEMENTS, however sketchy and impermanent. These don't belong in wilderness.

And then, too, there are the obvious PITS, TAILINGS, and CHEMICAL SEEPS that are the usual legacy of the extraction and which aren't fixable once created.

So the course of action seems obvious...PROTECTION OF THE ENTIRE AREA.

Fine with me. The chances of my going to Indian Canyon or anywhere else in BE are less than one percent but that doesn't mean I don't support WE FOLKS in this fight.

The rural folks in SE Utah are, for the most part, good ole boys with next to zero environmental ethic. They would just love to be able to ATV over fragile desert environment without any restrictions.
When it comes to those areas in question best practices needs to be replaced by best enforcement.

Trump gets sued so often that he doesn't even know who is suing him and what he is being sued for. He pays people to deal with that stuff. It seems to me that the one business relationship he doesn't crap all over are the ones with his lawyers.

But at least the lawyers have to deal with the suit, and hopefully that will result in delays of the greedy mining ops jumping in before the "presidential" ink on the signature was dry.

Today I drove through northwest Texas, from Lubbock west toward Roswell, NM. Wherever there were active gas wells, there was a whiff of farts. Beautiful wide open grasslands and scrub. And fart smell.

What the f is wrong with people - we don't need no stinking fartsmell in our national monuments. They aren't monuments to industry, for fux sake.

you know who's knott praying for who?

A staff member from Trump’s campaign recalls him mocking Pence’s religiosity. He said that, when people met with Trump after stopping by Pence’s office, Trump would ask them, “Did Mike make you pray?”

I propose that they settle it with a triathlon: sh#t talking on video, climbing Nutcracker, and raving on twitter. I bet that Yvon can win it if he trains a bit.

That surf picture above...my guess....Kuta Beach, Bali.
I went in the water there the first time I was in Bali years ago and after about 30 seconds of all that sh#t floating around my legs, I bailed and have never gone back (to Kuta). F*#king disgusting. And sad.

Go Yvon!
And yeah f*#k Trump.

Go yvon!

Keep making bank selling oil based goods while hypocritically railing against the oil industry. Clearly his delusional customer base does not understand what his products are made of and the negative effects they have on the environment... including the plastification of the ocean(every time you wash a synthetic garment it's polluting plastic into the environment)- the whole point of the surf pic. Amazingly even that was lost on most ^^

Perhaps yvon can join bono on his next world tour to preach to the masses about the dangers of consumerism and waste

billionaires for the little guy...

He doesn't want to sell you that $900 jacket...but some one has to...

Oil companies have green initiatives too-does that negate their extraction of fossil fuels?

Perhaps think of Patagonia as an oil company- who happens to sell garments

Yvon will never add 228,000 jobs to the economy in one month.

nor will he take away the 'entitlements' you've been compelled to pay all your working life.

Chouinard has a history of creating actual products and value. Trump is and has always been a hack. I go with Yvon.

BTW - for all the cracks about $300 down jackets. Sure, Patagonia products are expensive. I have purchased only 2 Patagonia clothing items in my life - both in 1980. Both of those clothing items are still in regular service. The way I see it, those products are among the least expensive I have purchased based on an annualized basis.
Chouinard makes good products, charges a fair price for the goods, and donates a significant amount to good causes. I have no issues with his business model.
I may go out and buy something from Patagonia this weekend. I can show my support and have something to hand down to my kid when I die in 30 years.

I'd rather support a blacksmith than an orange fraud.

Happie, you are wrong.

He has stiffed his lawyers in the past, which is why 1st-tier legal firms will not work for him. I heard one quoted as saying " why would we work for him? He won't listen to us, and we won't get paid"
