AP, so bear spray is a ‘gun’? At least here our park and forest services recommend we carry it. My take is that yer gubmint is afraid people will use it to defend themselves from criminals, god forbid!

We met a couple in their 70's who have Geode mine in Oregon. He could never go to Canada because he couldn't keep his handguns.

Love it or leave it is such a bullsh!t argument. Hey our rights and our freedom are being trampled on but if you don't like it you can get out.
Jody's comment is exactly what you'd expect from a cop. Also bullsh!t.

I think Canadians should consider building a wall. Long, leaky border between them and a bunch of ruffians.

If we built a wall it would be a 10,000 km long traverse problem.

We actually have a head of state who's female, and who speaks truth about things like science, human-caused climate change, evolution, and "horoscopes". Gotta like that.

A wall would be beneficial to Canadians in that it would be porous to clever latinos who wanted to work but would prove to be an insurmountable barrier to lazy caucasians.

Originalpcmac, you might want to go back and look, the love it or leave it comment came from Russ, not Jody, so you might not want to take it at face value. I don't follow these threads here much, but I suspect it's more about past history between the two personalities than Russ' conservative patriotism.

Reilly! Re your friends having their Bear Spray confiscated & themselves threated with proscecution!

WTF?

I have an interest in the subject, since friends keep inviting us up to visit bear-infested BC.

Per this Nov. 2016 Canadian customs document, it strongly appears "Bear-Spray" is legal & mace & pepper-spray are not.

Exception: Aerosol or similar dispensers that contain substances capable of repelling or subduing animals (e.g. dog or bear repellent) are not considered prohibited weapons if:
(i) the label of the container indicates specifically that it is for use against animals only; and
(ii) the provisions of the Pest Control Products Act are met.
(iii) In order for a device or dispenser to be considered to meet the above criteria, it must be apparent that the device was designed exclusively for the control or use against animals. The manufacturer’s label and specifications will be deemed as the design of the product. The misuse of these or any other similar device may nonetheless be punishable under other laws.
(iv) Please note that there is no minimum quantity or capacity requirements (in terms of grams or milliliters) in making the determination with respect to animal repellents.

Maybe your friends tried to sneak their Bear Spray through the border & got in trouble for not declaring it?

Offwhite, I am aware of who made what comment. Point taken though. I guess my wording may have been a poor choice. Certainly not trying to come off as angry. Merely stating my opinion. Cheers, ya'll!

Hey MH
A few years ago we had a Prime Minister who tried to stifle climate science. It could happen again.

With all due respect Jody, it means there are too many people locked up for non violent crimes, private prisons, poor methods for rehabilition and rampant recidivism. I apologize if my comment came off as a jab at you for your service as an LEO.

The difference is that if the us customs had found the bear spray they would have prosecuted you.
