"Logged in" is when you see your avatar name in the upper right corner of the supertopo page.

If an iPhoneis not powered off it will stay logged in.

Mine doesn't!
I have to. Password in, after any gap over about four hours.

Does anyone know if in the settings there is a way to get back the swipe camera? So you don't have to use a password to open the whole rig.

This feature is essential for taking photos of people on top of Ancient art with their phone.

And yes, there are a whole slew of gratuitous dorky features in texting now!!!

Dingus. Responses in caps below....

1. You never close Safari, ever, and or (I TRIED THAT, IT's STILL LOGGED IN WHEN I WENT BACK TO IT)
2. Never close the window of the site you're visiting. (I TRIED THAT, IT's STILL LOGGED IN WHEN I WENT BACK TO IT)

An awful lot of iPhone users don't know how to close an app. But turning the phone off and back on will close the apps too so guessing this isn't it.(I KNOW HOW AND JUST DOUBLE CHECKED THAT I AM DOING IT CORRECTLY)

But when you visit a site using Safari, it remembers it and when you launch Safari the next time it will reopen that same window, unless you explicitly close/kill the app when exiting.(I CLOSED THE PAGE WITH ST ON IT AND OPENED JUST A GOOGLE SEARCH PAGE BEFORE I CLOSED IT)

But none of that = 'logged in' (WHEN I REOPEN ST FORUM PAGE I AM STILL LOGGED IN)

I EVEN REMOVED IT FROM MY BOOKMARKS AND IT STAYS LOGGED IN.....

HELP! MY PHONE IS POSSESSED BY THE FORUM!!!

It might have something to do with the icloud keychain but I believe I said no to saving the password....

Thanks Monolith! I've been swiping up and then touching the camera. Saves me a step.

Do you want to stay logged in or not.

I prefer not to one finger type my moniker and password, so I stay logged in!

Correcting your 'private' browsing setting fixes the staying logged in problem

Curt, you must know something the apple techs don't know, they told me the text screen has no optional settings. If you know how to opt out of these unwanted text options please inform me.

I tilt my phone 2° and this pops up:

Hmm. I have 10.0.2 and I have never, ever seen that when creating or sending texts.

My iPhones have stayed logged it to Supertopo for years. Regardless of whether I turned them off. Kind of strange now that I think about it. I think it's even stayed logged in when I've gotten new phones.

Maybe it's because I have the forum page saved in my Bookmarks?

Safari remembers from the supertopo login cookie to retain your username and password

now if you go to Settings-Safari-and then "clear history and website data" then your login information will be erased and you have to log in all over again

A couple of people (including me) have mentioned that all apps will be closed when you turn off (with the side button) the iPhone. Yes, but then you have to reboot.

There's another way that I find more useful. It came in with iPhone5.
Log yourself in with the finger ID button or your password.
Now double press the button. All open apps will appear scrolled across the screen.
Slide (left to right) so that you can get a finger on the app you wish to close. Slide the app screen up. That app's screen will magically disappear. Repeat until all apps are gone (except the home screen which will persist)
Single press the button to return to the home screen.

It's very easy to have several apps open at once which can eat up your available memory. My wife does this frequently. If your iPhone iOS9/10 comes to a screeching halt, you've likely consumed all your memory.
Close all apps as described. If the phone still seems bogged down, now's the time to shut it down and start afresh.
You can see how much memory is available with Settings->General->About->Available
If you've got something less 1 GByte your iPhone will be slow.

As a habit I try not to have more than 4 or 5 apps open at a time.

NOTE: apps that are open in the background WILL stay connected to their last webpage.
So this may be your cause of staying logged in all night.
I shut all apps down when I plug into the charger for the night.

Hmm. I have 10.0.2 and I have never, ever seen that when creating or sending texts.

Lots of people have said that to me, while others, like Susan stated they like it, so i assume there is a bug somewhere. Some people get the emoji demon by default, some don't. Emoji is a keyboard that looks like the pic i posted.

i spent 2 hours w/ Apple techs today. It is controlled in settings, general, keyboard settings. i have an ihassle 5, but that shouldn't matter.

To locate it, scroll down to the "Add A New Keyboard" menu and there you will find the root of all evil (emoji keyboard).

When i downloaded 10.02 the emoji keyboard was selected by default. There is no possibility of me having done so, since i knew nothing of keyboard menu.

You may get curious and look at your keyboard settings, but don't let that cat kill you by selecting the emoji option.

i am having to erase all data from phone and restore from icloud via itunes. Hopefully I haven't lost anything of value, such as contacts and some pics.

Right now i am waiting itunes to download the i.o.s. 10.0.2 to my phone, which is very confusing since it is there, albeit dysfunctional.

Maybe you can see why i think so little of the i.o.s. 10.0.2 upgrade, since i had a fairly well functioning phone before the change and nothing but frustrations since.

It shouldn't, but I wonder? I have the 5SE which has the same guts as the 6+

No complaints with it on a 6s

I've got one complaint.

It seems battery life at the very end is different. Maybe it's a setting but my 6s would hang on to 1% for way longer than I could ask for. Really surprised me. Now it'll turn off at 10% and 30% if the little bitch gets cold.

Otherwise like with all Apple updates I do them when they come out and forget about whatever little thing that might come up in no time. So like with other Apple stuff iOS10 just works.

Powering down this iPad does not close open apps nor safari windows. Just tested.

Is it worth trying to compile all that we've discovered?

Edit:

Just made sure all safari windows were closed
Made sure all apps were closed
There were a lot open

Jaybro

I have not had the iPhone log me out of ST in any case I've tested.

Closing all windows
Closing all apps
Powering down

I logged out of ST, closed all windows, closed all apps, powered off, powered back on, hit favorite for ST, got ST, not logged in, signed in ST remembered my moniker, only had to type password and check the box

Yes, Safari remembers where you were last. But it does not stay connected when you shut down the Safari app.
As I said on page 1, bold added.
The Safari browser (like most other browsers) remembers the last website you visit. So next time you wake up or restart the phone it takes you back to the last site. Dunno if you can bypass that but you can be sure it's not connected to SuperTopo while Safari is off. Although I can't prove it, I expect it also disconnects when asleep.

You are confusing connected and logged in. Discussed above.

If you actually read what I said, I did not say "connected", though I may have used the word loosely a number of posts back.

It's probably better to not use the terms interchangeably.

Also, Safari may remember where you were last. As I ponted out before, it depends upon whether you are browsing in "private" and other things.

next time you wake up or restart the phone it takes you back to the last site is not true in the scenario I described where the windows and apps have been close.

Hope this clears it up for you.

None of which explains why Jaybro's machine seems to drop the login at around four hours.

The only time I get logged out is if I clear cookies or on some system upgrades. It happened going from ios9 to ios10.
