Good news, Dean.
Thanks, Maid, I think! I like Clark, too. It's going to be a different place, that's for sure. Change is a mofo.

Heres a little better quality map that the maid posted earlier. To me it looks like Clark's burnt. I was up on the Minaret Vista this evening, a few planes heading back and forth to the fires.

Smoke was funneling across the east end of mono lake last night..The lookout on top of Bald Mt. had a large swath of orange fire retardent protecting it...Wonder what impact the fire will have at big springs on the owens river headwaters..?

From Mammoth Mountain skate park on Thursday
This shot shows the plume from the fire joining the thunder cell that likely caused it.
It progressed slowly as we watched it all day friday from the top of the mountain.

Hey DMT,
No I haven't had a chance to see the actual damage. The area is closed off to the public. I just saw the pic above posted to the Inyo National Forest FB page which I think demonstrates that the area got toasted. I also thought that the trees were somewhat spaced in the area and not too thick which would allow for a "healthy" fire to run through. I guess we will have to wait and see what damage has been done to the rock, hardware, etc when this is over. Without the trees it will be very exposed and hot.
I drove up from Bishop yesterday from hiking and the Rock Creek Fire looks embedded in the lower part of Rock Creek Canyon where the bike trail goes. There was quite a bit of vegetation in there this spring when I was biking it.

If that's the parking area, it looks like we now have a road going right up to the rocks.
Anyone ever done any testing of bolts and hangers after a fire?

These two fires are basically toast--heh. Smoldering and mop-up operations, but I think the latest official #s: Rock Creek 95%; Clark @ 85% containment. We were up at Highland Wall on Cristal Crag all day, and there was only light smoke. Couldn't see anything coming out of Rock Creek.
But!
When we came out of the Mtn. Rambler after dinner and brews---a big swath of smoke pouring across the Sierra crest from up high--something burning on the West Side. Shiz never ends with so many idiots and accidents in the great state of California.

Clark, 85% contained, 2819 Acres
Rock Creek, 100% contained, 122 acres

I went out with our Water Tender on Initial Attack.
Here is where the road splits, left to Alpers right to Clark parking area...this intersection was the anchor on this side of the fire, lines going up either side from here
dozer 43 putting the line up Bald Mt....he drove all the way up and around the lookout...
and...
Very sad...I have been climbing out there almost every weekend for 10 or more years.

Look at the bright side....... you will not need to back up the next time you come face to face with somebody going the other way.
But seriously, how did the stone hold up? The hardware....
One of the places I usta go to down by the Kern was burned up so bad the surface of the rock blew off along with the bolts. That place will most likely need 5,000 years to have the surface reform.
I do hope that is not the fate of Clark.

Thx for posting those pics. Looks bad but maybe not devastating. The trees don't look like toothpicks.
I'm glad I got a day there this spring.

Yes, interesting pics. Looks like a bunch of those trees were only scorched at the base, which is what I was hoping for. No more "redneck racing stripes" when driving in my big truck. Gonna need some rain and snow to clean things up a bit.
