Taken this aft downtown.
A 90-mile hop to Mammoth Airport from Castle Airport, so this is a puddle jump over the Sierras, relatively.

Good luck knocking this one down. Last evening was smoke-darkened with a wind shift. Then it vanished.

Cragman....Watched a lady doing donuts in her SUV out in INYO craters last night...She was driving off road in foot deep duff of pine needle and cones...I stopped and gave them the smoky the bear lecture about catalytic converters touching dry needles as the fire fighting tankers were flying over... My lecture was a waste of time...When i drove off her car was still parked in the duff....She was getting ready to build a bonfire right next to the pine needles..

Wow that looks awful. We were up at Clark over Labor Day weekend and it was quite spooky - that August fire burned hot. I didn't post any pictures but if you remember that huge log someone carved into a chair, in the Alcove, it's totally gone...just sand and white ash where it was.

We spotted a few green sprouts coming in on remnants of shrubs along the trail though. The trees all looked pretty well done for.

Really a shame that the areas spared in August now look like they're burning. Da*nit!!!

The Inyo Register

The so-called Owens River Fire is estimated to be 6,000 acres and 20 percent contained according to a news release posted on http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/ at approximately 6:50 p.m.
The release further stated, "Today, crews continued to develop and strengthen containment lines. Hot, dry conditions and wind increased fire activity in the afternoon. The fire grew along the northeast flank and interior islands of fuel also burned actively. Fire crews tied the fireline from the Owens River Fire to the recent Clark Fire, which will provide an effective control line for a portion of the northern flank.
Tonight, crews will continue line construction, building out from the south and west flanks to further contain the fire. These evening operations are particularly effective when the fire “lays down” at night with cooler temperatures and allows fire crews to more safely respond to the fire. Crews will monitor the southwest flank to ensure that lines hold and continue protection of ranches and developments in the area.
Four uninhabited outbuildings and several pieces of heavy equipment were destroyed during the initial response yesterday.
The fire is burning along Owens River Road near Clark Canyon, east of Highway 395 in sagebrush and Jeffrey pine, and annual grasses.
There are 9 hand crews, 48 engines, 3 air tankers, 7 helicopters, 3 dozers, and 6 water tenders assigned to the fire. There are 483 people assigned to the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears to be human-caused."

I was part of the climbers who got trapped at the recent fire at Clarks Canyon, we bailed so fast from the crag that we left 8 black and gold and 4 Petzl Djinn quickdraws at the base of area 13 around no more mister nice guy.

Our friend who lives up there went back there to get them recently and said there was no gear.

Hoping somebody picked them up, we would really like them back
