Damn, this sucks as that place was always a pleasant escape and chill.

Save king spud! Edit for Cragar below. there's a joke in there as the rock itself would have to fall over!

Cragman...As we both know the forest is like a tinder box back in there...Piss fir , scraggly lodgepole with dead limbwood and the big jeffrey's...It could run all the way north to Mono Lake... Sauser...? Who would have thought...Was that the night you came across the guy in the car with the girly magazines...?

Totally Randisi, totaly!

King Spud ain't gong anywhere and I kinda doubt the huge tree below has sufficient adjacent fuels to get'r going; it's been years since I've been there, so I really don't know.

Must be wind activity if it's headed to Alpers eh?! What about the Mind Dart area?(I obviously have vague memories of it)

Man, haven't been there since '94 and love the climbing/setting and adjacency to BaldMtn, the aspens with there Basque history... We would go over almost every other weekend from Sonora after the pass opened from 92-94.

Things are changing, back in 07 we had very weird explosive fire activity in re-burned areas of the sub-alpine zones in the Bob. Every year there are good examples of change and what years of suppression have left us with.

Cragman...I bet Sauser was grateful..Lucky he didn't freeze to death...I was skating the trails off the back of Bald 12K's off 395 and came up on this guy with a dead sled...I stopped just as he pulled his helmet off...It was Bondo..He passed me later on the way out towed behind another sled...

I was on an elevator with him last week ... Next time i'll ask him if he's ever gotten lost on his snow mobile and suggest that motorized recreation should be banned on the forest...hee , hee...

Bummer! One of my favorite areas with all the jeffries.

It always crossed my mind that I wouldn't want to get stuck in one of the canyons or climbing spots up there if a fire started. Inciweb report (Calfire) said they evacuated Clark (and presumably anyone who was camping in the meadow). Wishing safety to all the fire-fighters!

The smoke was visible from the Druid Stones this morning and now from down here in Bishop.

Perhaps the USFS efforts to get equipment in to fight the fire will inspire them to do a little work on the road.

Clark is one of our favorite summer spots and we are concerned.

1,600 acres, 10% contained. Seems like pretty stiff westerlies. We were climbing up at Dike Wall and watched the smoke and bombers go by. I suspect the camping area and Al's Garage are fine, but who knows? This baby's gonna bet bigger before this is over. Fortunately, no smoke to speak of in Bishop now, and Mammoth was gorgeous.

Play safe, kids.

A L1011 just floated by...

More likely a DC-10. Most of the L1011's either fell out of the sky or got scrapped. I sure wouldn't want to fill one up with water and see what happened.

That's a lot of fires all at once. Makes you wonder...

Oh sh*t not Rock Creek/Swall again.

Were there thunderstorms today? Wind is blowing from the west so it's unlikely that it's from embers from Clark...

The Clark fire was caused by lightning.

I just finished working up in Starlite and had a really good view of the new blaze off Lower Rock Creek Road. It looked bigger when I got there then when I left.

Talked to a few folks in the know. Two DC-10's and 4 copters where pulled off the Clark fire to help with the LRCF. They're hitting it pretty hard and hopefully they'll have it knocked down tonight. If I lived in Swall I'd be freaking out right now. Way to close for comfort.

Sorry about the crappy scan. Highlighted area upper right is the current fire line. Compare to Marty's guide of the area. Clark Canyon looks like it's right in the middle of it. Meh. I like Clark. :(
Official start was indeed lightning.
