I've heard from here say that Prince had a problem with sore hips caused he believed by wearing high-heel shoes on stage during his performances. If so, the pain could have been entirely psychogenic. That's one of the big problems with treating essentially psychosomatic pain with highly addictive opioids. Given the structural assumptions behind modern scientific medicine, doctors don't have any other way of treating pain than prescribing pain killers. Vicious cycle. An over-achieving perfectionist who isolates himself like Prince is a perfect candidate for psychosomatic pain symptoms.

Here's the DEA on Fentanyl:
Fentanyl is about 100 times more potent than morphine as an analgesic.
Fentanyl is abused for its intense euphoric effects. Fentanyl can serve as a direct substitute for heroin in opioid dependent individuals. However, fentanyl is a very dangerous substitute for heroin because it is much more potent than heroin and results in frequent overdoses that can lead to respiratory depression and death. Very serious stuff.

Yes. But have you seen the dance routines he did, and the shoes he wore? And of course he did it a lot. That would end most dancers careers from all sorts of injuries. Sh*t, just walking around in that footwear...
I think he had to keep performing, much like many of us get deeply hooked on climbing. Initially pain meds enabled him to keep going...

I heard a report today that the medical examiner in Prince's case made the comment, and I'm paraphrasing:
" He died of an accidental self-administered overdose..."
WTF?

It means he didn't mean to kill himself, Ward. It was accidental.
I see. But I thought Dr. Prince was incapable of botching an otherwise simple, straightforward medical procedure?
Are they going to have to drag his "Doctor " into court like Michael Jackson's.
I smell a show trial ratings bonanza.
The medical examiner/coroner must be a golfing buddy of Prince's Doctor .

being relieved of pain in all it's forms can drive people to take on unintended solutions.
Agreed.. But that's assuming everything and everyone in this story is on the up and up. But I smell a Michael Jackson type situation. Money. Drugs.
But as the examiner said it was just an accident. Like someone walking along and then slipping on a banana peel or walking into an uncovered manhole.
I could be wrong.
However, may he rest in peace.
Years ago I heard a Prince story that involved an A& R rep giving a big exec at a major label a Prince demo by the then unsigned and undiscovered Prince.
The exec said " sign this guy right away" and " sign the back-up band on the demo. Excellent band"
The A&R then replied " this artist is the band : the guitars, the drums, the horns, the bass, the keyboards, and all the voxes-- and he can dance"

Actually my favorite Prince composition.
7:15 am last Monday Morning at the supermarket this song comes on. I was soon moonwalking down the freshly polished floor in the canned fish aisle.
