^I have to wonder if you weren't providing whomever was flinging the poo with the same generalization you posted here.
If it happened once - yeah, a random as#@&%e. But that they did it with regularity, seems an indication you somehow got their dander up.

I find the idea of encouraging any type of littering- regardless of how it degrades over time offensive. It's a really bad habit to justify with "well- they break down over time". Those blue bags lying about in the underbrush give other lazy people with less bio-degradeable trash a mental "OK" to toss thier TP and water bottles in the bushes too. If you pack it in you can pack it out- period.

If I'd caught 'em there might have been some black and blue,
to their ear drums at least.

The time will eventually come when the dog worshipers will shoot their own foot off and dogs will be banned in the wilderness. There has to be a tipping point, I would think?

"Generally speaking, dog owners don't care if their dogs offend others. Their hairy love animal is so wonderful that anyone bothered by it is a dog hating sociopath."
Aww, gee...that's not always true.
I love my pup more than most humans, and realize that some people aren't especially crazy about dogs. That's cool- I do what I can to keep him under control and away from others unless they expressly want to make contact.
I can respect not those who aren't into dogs- hell, I love most pups, but don't really appreciate owners who foist them onto me, either.

This past weekend at Smith Rock I saw a McD's McCafe cup sitting beside the trail. The nice citizen I am went to pick up this litter, it tipped over...and was STUFFED with poo. It was freaking nasty. WTF is wrong with people?

For real ? People put dog poo or their own poo in a bag and leave it behind for someone else to ..........to..............to ........I don't know..... clean up ?
Hard to believe but true.
I often walk my dog up in Monrovia Cyn Park. There is only one way in and out, about 1/8 mile of road. People pick up their dog's poop and leave it along side the road, ostensibly to pick up on their way out. But then on the way out they walk on by as if someone else left it there. I can only assume they want to be seen doing the right thing but don't want to carry it out.
This while there are trash cans located conveniently throughout the park.
This really ticks me off as it gives responsible dog owners a bad name.

Back when i was a dog owner it was easy! I would just dab the poop with a pine cone and place it in the bushes.
Its so dry here in Tahoe it would just dry up, and blow away.

The posts are cracking me up at this point....
I clean up after my dog if it's warranted.
I'm a hater of the people who do not and just this morning I placed a poo bag in a trashcan that someone had left about 150' from the trashcan......
How about this plan... if someone does not want to carry the filled poo bag for mile......use it as a glove to pick up the poo and move or throw it off trail and then turn the poo bag inside out, tie it off, and put it in your pocket.
I've taken to doing this option.
Now let the poo flinging commence upon me... ;-))

dogs are not natural to the environment if it weren't for humans they would not exist.
there are too many dogs to just throw their s h i t or to let them run around and just s h i t in the environment.
humans are natural to the environment but there are too many of them to just let them run around and s h i t wherever they want.
humans should pack out their own and their dogs' s h i t.
and yes I have packed out my own on occasion and I am vowing to do so every time from now on.
Cool pooch, Stewart Johnson
while not a dog owner anymore I am a dog walker of my brothers dog and I pick up every nugget

New plan.
A reusable poo bucket that the dog wears on their harness so they can carry it themselves...
Brilliant!!!
Now someone go out and market one so I can buy one....

This fat Fido carried all the turds of 4 humans and 2 dogs from a week long ski trip to the Smowbird Glacier 7 miles to the dumpster. He literally had 20 lbs of s hit in his backpack. Of course he carried the whisky and fuel on the way up.

I don't think anyone is condoning leaving poop bags or excusing the behavior of certain dog owners. It really comes down to acceptance that a certain portion of any human population will be slobs/DBs/low life's/etc. These are the same people who toss trash out their car window. Nothing can be done about these people. They cannot be re-educated or made to change their ways, generally speaking.
So we are left with mitigating the problem. This can be done by collecting the blue presents every time you go for a walk, flicking them off the trail, or burying them. Or propose to the folks who manage the trail to ban dogs from using the trail altogether.
And yes, the modern poop bags break down pretty quick. Mother nature will not be too upset. Likely the biggest impact to the environment is the presence of the dogs affecting other native animals.
