The US group that went into Hkakabo Razi (sp?) in N Myanmar took one or two drones to take pictures. It's the coming thing, or all ready here, maybe. Seems weird to me, but technically it sounds like a lot of fun and the photo op opportunities are certainly stunning. However, if I saw one outside of my window, it would be shotgun time, I'm sooooo sorry (not!).

I consider the noise pollution to be a real issue. Every time our next door neighbor fires his up to take a look at my wife I hear that distinct buzzing - and its not a pleasant sound. I don't think any motorized sounds are pleasant. I don't know if some models are quieter than others. I don't like other people's music at the crags, or campgrounds with generators running. I don't want to hear that buzzing out on longer routes, even at a crowded areas. Neither would I like seeing them rather than the birds or open sky. So what if Lover's Leap is crowded? Its still a beautiful place like many others. I end up climbing more often in those places than the really remote areas, like most everyone else. If we don't voice our objections to increased intrusions of this type into public lands, they continue to grow. Here's another one: all the dispersed target shooting in the NF around our house. There is way more of it now than 10 years ago. Its obnoxious, loud and sometimes its non stop all day. I know there are remote silent areas out there, but I run in the woods behind my house. We can and should require that target shooting be done in specific places without banning hunting.

wrist rocket and small bag of corn would do the trick. They should be banned at lovers leap and all other cliffs because it will freak out the raptors.

I first encountered a drone in the wild as my wife and I were headed up to Zoo Wall in the 'Bamas. Freakin' hate those things! Freaked our dog out, too. Fortunately, it wasn't up for too long. Must EVERYTHING be intruded upon by tech.? Shut down the phones, park the drones, let nature's tidings flow into you.

I'd think that a quick link/small biner on some throw away webbing should be able take one down with the right aim...also, it'd stay with the drone and not fly off on it's own trajectory like a rock.

I will admit, this makes the Leap far far less appealing to visit. Enjoy my place in line folks!

Cheers!

It may not be legal to take down a drone, but neither is it legal for its owner to publish photographs of you without your permission. So, what you gain from civil judgments could outweigh what you lose in criminal penalties....

My life must be boring; I've never been approached by any picture-taking drones.

I am aware of the vandalism issues, and even at least one case of possible prosecution for a landowner shooting down an encroaching drone, but I wonder where the law of trespass enters (at least for overflights of private property). What about damage from a very locaized rainstorm (caused by a very powerful pressure washer)? Also, if the owner of the buckshot-infested drone can sue for vandalism, can I counterclaim for vandalism too, because the enemy drone attacked my shotgun blast with its body?

The possibilities for creative lawyering are amusing.

John, I am thinking it would be really hard to prosecute without the
remains of the drone to present as evidence. And just because the drone
vid seems to show you throwing something at it how can it be proven
that what you threw was what took it out? I see nothing but legal loopholes.

What is the great change we should be preparing for, being filmed by some dipshit with a joystick or getting bombed from the sky when the "pilot" inevitably loses control?

If sum mofo drone comes near me whilst I'm a leading then it's toast. That's it, if you don't like it see you in court ghey boy. And if I die as a result of some gawker, then it's really"on". Do somthin" for real.
