A buddy and I were climbing Haystack at the leap on Friday. As I reached the top of pitch 2 and set up the anchor, I noticed a drone at about eye level, maybe 75 feet away. I'm used to crowded conditions at the leap, but mostly the human variety. :) Had I been in the back country, I kinda would have been wishing for a wilderness experience. But given it's the leap, well, it's not where you go for that these days, so if someone wants to have fun taking my picture, go ahead. But if you're on supertopo, post it. I'd love to see me or my buddy pulling the 5.8 roof move.

Ha! One more element in 21st century cultural evolution we're all going to have to get used to, adapt to, I guess.
I want to see, too. Any drone vids of the Leap, post up. Now or 1 year from now. Or 5 years from now. Thanks.
I'll tip a coffee in btc! :)

Serious question...
Is it legal (or at least not illegal) to chuck a rock at the damn thing and knock it out?

delhi dog, good question. And the answer may depend on if the rock hits somebody on the head on the trail down below. Not worth it, imho.

Flip 'em off.
If they get in range, piss on 'em.
Goddam things are a menace, and the pilots are jackasses.

Unfortunately you may not take down a drone. It is charged as vandalism and will also be liable for repairs and punitive damages in some instances. I for one would like to see the laws changed, but until then make sure you aren't seen if you take one out...

I have the equipment to find their video channel and them swamp it effectively blinding the pilot, lol...it would be a fun job at places like Yosemite Valley

I think drones at the leap are pretty cool. there's plenty of places they're not allowed and i'm happy to embrace them (don't own one) in some otherwise somewhat natural settings. 75' away is no big deal and they could have been shooting elsewhere or doing a flyby. I think most basic photography rights still exist even with drone shot material.
maybe a little OT but I could see in the future a drone sending live footage to an en route rescue party or heli preparing to evac someone. being able to communicate with the injured party and those onsite.
seems like the leap would be a good place to test such a technology.

Love to have that lawsuit. I'd ask for a jury trial.
Counter with reckless endangerment.

How is it that you know how old the people are who don't like to be buzzed by a remote-controlled drone?
I remember when I was young, we were saying that you couldn't trust anybody over 30.
Now that I'm all grown up, I'm saying, "When will those young'uns ever learn?"
