I was one of the 75 hippies that showed up to the legion hall doors show. Nobody really knew who they were at that time. Morrison was shitfaced

Admiral Morrison was the keynote speaker at the decommissioning ceremony for Bon Homme Richard, his first ship as an admiral, on July 3, 1971 in Washington, D.C., the same day his son, Jim Morrison, died in Paris, France at age 27.

Morrison homes in Coronado. I'll have to go over and take my own photo of the one in CV.

Back in 1964 when Jim went all Navy on us.

Throwpie, I beg to differ on the number of attendees. How, you may ask, can I know the gate was actually 81 people and not 75.

I was out with Laurie for lunch today. I had a curry chicken salad and a Cocola and she had eggs and toast and coffee. It wasn't too crowded and so we sat for a good long while "digesting" and conversing since our two-topper wasn't needed for waiting diners. Then we went for a stroll.

I'd brought my Dolomite wheeled walker GTS and wore a nice sweater, for which I was complimented twice or three times. We took our time at a pace less than ambling but more than a crawl--it was a bad day for me, lung-wise.

As we puttered along I told her of the old buildings along W. Main St: the old El Capitan and its eleven vacant ground floor store fronts, the Schafer Building on the opposite corner and its mostly-empty store fronts, and my employment at the stationery store in that old pile and at the used book store in what used to be Woolworth's across the street.

I had to take a few breathers, so it took a while to get to the used book store, but we finally made it. Then we had a nice time sitting there and talking, looking over Charlie Marino's new book about the Filipino community up and down the Central Valley. I have the first three and want the new one to complete the set, but it's more than I want to spend right now.

Alissa, the book lady, was kind enough to speak with us (once she got off the phone) and we had a nice visit. I ended up with five quality paperbacks for only fifteen bucks, a better bargain than just the one for ten bucks more. Compliments on both sides, one from Laurie on Alissa's outfit (She looks like Minnie Mouse with reversed colors, referring to her polka dots) and one from Alissa for my purple sweater.

On leaving the book store we crossed back to the other side of M St. and sat in the sun to enjoy the time outside and had more good conversation.

Then Skip Johnson pulled up and parked across the street and came over to say hi and he gave me a VERY BIG ORANGE which I've put in the fridge to chill. And Throwpie, you know Skip has a million stories about Merced, so Laurie had lesson number two on downtown's old buildings and the folks who operated out of them, too many to relate here.

I told Skip that I got that Doors poster off Michael Kennedy's Merced Music blog today. Skip told me that it was a Vince Lavery presentation. He also said that Michael had been to Ireland to visit Vince when he moved back to the old sod and Michael told him that Vince said they had a gate of 81 people at $2.50 a pop, netting $202.50 total, out of which he had to pay the bands. The Doors at the time were relatively unknown, just the house band for the Troubador.

He also told of the time the Animals were scheduled to play at the Fairgrounds Pavillion with some local band and Vince was the promoter for that gig as well. This was in the days before cell phones, of course, so when the Animals missed Merced and ended up at the Madera fairgrounds, there was no way to contact Vince.

There was a groundskeeper in Madera who knew nothing of any rock 'n' roll show that night and he said it must be back up the highway in Merced. So Eric and the band got to the gig late, just when the other band had run through its small playlist and was getting ready to begin again.

At midnight, though, a sheriff's deputy came on stage and said the party was over. When Vince got up on stage to discuss the issue and Burdon was getting ready to chime in, the deputy warned them they'd be going to visit the jail if they did not comply, so Burdon left off and they hustled their equipment to the van and skedaddled. They were dressing at the time in dark suits, white shirts with wing collars and black ties, according to Skip, who also got this story from Michael who got it from Vince.

So that's the deal with the numbers, dude.
It was good to catch up with the local news, such as it is, with Skip. He's a good old boy, but he sure rambles and sidetracks a lot.

that your kit is dependant on 6mm? thats razor thin, light-weight for sure, is it that fancy new stuff? any what
what you need is
A RobotOr two
They say 8ml is the minimum, but that is just because,
the effects of friction induced heat and the sharp edge that forms from wear gives pause to using shoe-lace thick cord.

https://www.kong.it/en/2-products/items/f19-descenders/p269-robot

Here , this write up says the minimum is 5mm,
