[The original thread was scrapped unadvisedly and is herewith re-born; but renaissance is a pain in the butt.

The symbolism of that remark is meant to show that sequels are usually nowhere near the quality of the original, that they are, in fact, crap.

[We have tried harder. These remarks are edited in as we approach this thread's five-thousandth post. 03-13-16.]

Let me re-introduce myself.
I'm a poor man with questionable taste but can spell impeccable without resorting to a dictionary.
I'm an old geezer, but there's a twinkle in my eye which says that I don't know squat despite my ears.
The late John Fahey is my favorite music.
I play Scrabble at a high level.
I write more plainly than I did when I got to the Taco.
I confess to never having been a dirtbag, but did live in Camp 4 in '70 and '71.
That's all the personal history you're getting.

From an earlier post on the spurious The Flames thread by the scoundrel zBrown, who I would rank with Ned Kelly for infamy and with the Cat in the Hat for total seriousness.

Centennials only happen every hundred years.

I visited it on March 25 but could only gloss over it because they were nearing closing time. Photography is not allowed in the museum, but I surreptitiously took a few, but they are a bit blurry and I really needed to use a tripod to do them justice.

The ones which I did take are of Yosemite.I know nothing about this Death Valley Dodge. Maybe they were selling bogus cemetery plots.

Tourons from Merced city and county because the population was only a few thousand. Probably some farm families, but that's spec.

The dam is for the production of lumber, specifically, but there may have been a small electrical power generator here. Otherwise, the water backed behind the dam was used as a storage pond for trees coming down from the south side of the Merced Canyon, mostly Yellow pines, which were awaiting the attention of the sawyers.

"In 1910, the Yosemite Lumber Company was formed and purchased 10,000 acres of timber on the south side of the Merced River opposite El Portal. Access to that timber was accomplished by the construction of a bridge over the river and an "incline" up the mountain toward the timber."
http://www.yosemitevalleyrr.com/prototype/history

In the photograph above, the dam is spilling the entire flow of the river. There are now two dams right above it, both operated by the irrigation district.

Between the two they control the river's flow and so the old dam never spills any water but what goes through the old gate where the generator probably sat, if there was one in fact. The old spillway is on the south side of the river and these folks are ambling about on a small peninsula of rock which juts out just below the gate.

In addition, an even earlier dam is located a few miles further downstream, built by the irrigation district to divert water into the Main Canal and thence to Lake Yosemite, a holding pond which is only filled by the opening of the irrigation season.

This pond which the hockey players are using is probably not alwasy frozen, and I'm not sure where it was located, except I think it must have been on the south side of the Valley in the shade of Glacier Point.Puck hockey, it's too violent. Give me NFL or give me death? Hardly.

Hours at the museum are W-S, 1 to 4 p.m. and it's located at N Street and 21st Street in the County Courthouse Park/Veterans' Memorial.

This exhibit about the PPIE runs until July 19. It's loaded with old photography and Sarah and staff have done a great job.

wow it starts to radically twist my perspective ,

Only this fool will take any time to rhyme as out and back and out and back in a fly fishing mode,

Doing the same task repeatedly and expecting a different result,
is a symptom of insanity,
but the Flames is worth it joe!

so if, and I mean when, this blows and goes away again i will be a bit less sad .

A week ago it was Good Friday. Today, it's a better day. Scarlett O'Hara Butler had something there.

"The Flames destroyed Atlanta, remember."--Blind Joe Dead

"Everybody got to change sometime."--Taj

"Why seek the dead among the living?"--one of the two men in shining garments who greeted the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Twelve

"I'm ba-a-ack..."--Jack Torrance, or Jake

"I'm Jack."
"No, I'm Jake."
"I'm Jack."
"Jake."
"Jack!"
"Jake!"
--The two Evelyn Cross Mulwrays

I'm on cruise control floating in a big Cadillac up Mulwray Drive, overlooking Bob Dylan's spread, listening to BJ Thomas' cover of Casey Jones.

It's late at night and a deer pops into the headlights.

I deliberately run the bastion over and don't think twice about it.

He chose wrong. I chose to live.

Tough world. Hard to get a break in it, is what I'm sayin' to myself.

And then the song ends, the dream ends, and I get up an pee, drink the last of that B & J wine cooler, the strawberry flavored one, Jimmy's favorite.

Then I go outside to the fire escape, where no one's lookin' at 11 p.m., except the Lady Moon, who smiles like always.

Gentled, I come back inside and read some posts on the Taco.

And the muse comes knockin'.

Actually, it's just rSin, wanting some one to talk to about certain matters that brought him down earlier in the day.

We talk it through, but I'm doin' most of the listenin'.

I feel like an uncle, because it's what some of us do when we tiff with the old man, the hidebound old tyrant: go to his brother, who knows what a schmuck he is, and what a schmuck you are, but he's open and knows that he's one, too.

It was serious police business, so I can't say another word.

I'm glad that I picked up that late at night, but that's what caller ID is about, to see if you want to let it go or to pick up.

BIG MIKE--I know Wayno's uncle Bob. He taught me that trick. Thanks for all you do here.

zBrown, thank you for your support, your sport, and the little laughing dog, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby.

Throwpie, thank you for the memories, please.

And here's a toast to better days on the Taco.Call it a "Bump for a Better SuperTaco."

And last, thank you to the ladies who post to this thread. You are all enlightened beings.

Doug Buchanan, you were a lucky man.feralfae, you are a lucky lady.

Gypsy, you are a lucky lass to have hooked up with Randy--I took time for him last Friday, BTW.

neebee, you keep it together with the light from above. I hope your car gets repaired, your floor turns out Otay after the carpet's gone, and the critters do your bidding.

Lilabiene, you rock and so does THE Muppet!

Finally:
Gnome, I'm struck dumb by your candor and your willingness to tread where angels fear to go. Just stop posting so many videos as it's hard for certain folks' computers to load. Please.

Oh, Mouse? I did not take that photo of Doug. I don't know who took it. He might have himself. :) I know where it was taken, but not by whom.

zB, thank you for all the great tunes. Niiiiice. :) Cute puppies, too.

Moose, I used to climb, too. I am pleased to say that I scared a few people with my crazy, care-free climbing. I learned that gravity works all the time, everywhere. And, I learned a a bit of caution. Time.

hey there say, mouse... thought you would love this, since you mentioned wilf the yodeler, :)

YOUNG slim clark, came up in the ranks, on his own, and HEARD TELL of ol' wilf:

At the same time, there was a fellow by the name of Wilf Carter who had already been established, probably a year or so ahead of me. Everybody said, “You sound like Montana Slim” (aka Wilf Carter). I said, “Who in the world is that?’ I hadn’t heard of him because we didn’t have a radio at that time. The neighbors had a radio and they told me about it. I found out when he was on -- in the morning around 9:00. After that, whatever I was doing, cutting wood for the family, or haying, or whatever, I would quit at that time and go listen to Montana Slim because everything he sang was exactly my idea of what the cowboy singer should be like. If there is such a thing as great, he was the greatest of all. He learned a lot about cowboy life and that’s where a lot of his songs were born, going on to write some of the finest of the cowboy songs.

wow, i JUST love listening to yodling slim clark... :)

here is a link to his page... he also painted... lived with the various cowboys... and now, his daughter paints...

he named his son, after wilf...

a few years back, i bought slim's cd, which i rarely buy things like this... due to money issues, etc... SOME things however, are just really WORTH IT... :)
AND--well, not played often, so one simply MUST buy them, ;)

nita, NOAH's is the recent addition to the plethora of restaurantes Mexicanos in this area. It's just six blocks down Main St., but I have not had a meal in there as yet. Glowing praises abounded and their culinary skills redounded to their credit.

My son Scott takes his family to Trevino's on Main as a tradition. His oldest boy is Noah, the young one is Jake. And Noah says Trevino's is jake with him. :0)
