Mr. Bridwell oftentimes appears to be a bit suspicious. Do you have any photos of him & Steve McKinney skiing together?

How about some scuttlebutt on the Rolling Stone piece

"Yes Rolling Stone did do an article on Steve, and all of us involved in Speed Skiing at the time, if I remember right it was in 78. The writer Ed Zuckerman stayed with us for a couple weeks, we took him climbing at Lovers Leap and many other things (no snow to take him skiing though) and for a thanks he wrote things about us that the ski companies didn't like, think 78, think Lake Tahoe which was similar to Aspen in those days and you can imagine what the guy wrote about. They did the same thing to Bridwell a few years later, the title was The Bad boy of Climbing, or something like that. Stevie and I warned Brid about it, but he didn't listen and made the same mistake as us and let the guy in on things we wished to keep private. C'est le vie..."
-Craig

Was actually 1979. Kinda weird that he was in the issue with George Met.

Ive been trying hard to write something. Anything.
We climbed a lot of junk looking for "the stuff" (for Dave to send )
One time 'landman' grabbed the finishing holds to a climb I'd been working
working not sending. Shocked at how easy it was,.11? soft.12a not 'D'
Dave looked back down and asked something like, do you want me to? hey I could just let go, this was your FA.
I wish i could describe the way it was, not much gear lots of rope out, and Dave happy to let go to give me the meaningless FA. There are scant records for the climbs along the ridge. There are 70 years of climbing
it has been a Life-spring for "locals"
but no published information, still.

As has been said just the sweetest caring guy -sometimes- he was an awesomely conflicted character, torn by the love of life and cursed to have been dealt a thin lot. He could get very dark. We all rallied to keep him up right at times.

Yes Pinktaco (kevin LaLa, ne: lawlor?)
I might try to guess your name, to have been the chopper in the air pump(Steve's Restaurant "The Gay 90s") of the fish tank that was the gunks of the mid 80s makes me want to but. . .I'm guessing that you were part of the great migration of 86?
No mention Of Mary?
and a whole lot of glue and yes soloing, that was not at all unusual for most back then. It is what kept some of us grounded there. NewPaltz as basecamp.
Later Dave had the Keys to the climbing gym, a work thing, that led to some wild mid-night to dawn 'episodes'

When I heard of Yabo's passing, I told Dave and we got blasted before going soloing . . . . easy in the gunks.

He Was Mick JaggerHe was a great YOYO 5.14b 1988as a drinker he was oft under the table As the best climber -
. . . . but who am I kidding, I would have been too weak to partner with him anyway!

Dave would climb with any one. As the years went by we did have a floating bunch , a group, Lobes.

Dave and a character, Kieth Uhl an aid climber, drank their way up things, Dave looking to free the line while sussing out potential. smoking cigs, nearly peeing on each other, from one belay to the other, sounds stupuidgross ya had to be there.

The way that Dave was so intense. Sometimes, almost in your face,
"Can ya?" He would ask, "I've seen ya climb hardeh" , "mCommon, its only 11d". . . Tug on the cord "Yeah, man I gotcha, throw for it" His support was always sincere, he wanted you to have your best day with him and I always did.
He was at the top of the heepwe were just children!

A Youth Wasted Climbing Paperback – May 4, 2015
by David Chaundy-Smart (Author)

David Chaundy-Smart took it as a compliment when his high school vice-principal told him he was wasting his youth by climbing. Here, he tells the story of how he and his brother, Reg, spent the last years of the 1970s fighting suburban boredom to become, in the words of renowned climbing historian Chic Scott, one of the leading figures in Ontario rock climbing throughout the 1980s.

With its vivid accounts of short and nasty climbs, dubious mentors, hapless climbing partners, teenage crushes, bad cars, underage drinking and questionable climbing techniques, this is a memoir of coming of age in a simpler era of climbing, told with compassion, humour and insight.

I was thinking of ways to help me carry things with minimal loss of lung efficiency today.
I recalled that "The Boss" had made mention of tumplines in one of his catalogs in days gone by.
Then, to my surprise, a little voice in my head said, "Seekitout, SqueakerSeeker."
Turns out he's totally sold on 'em.
Tumpin' to think about, I thought.
I found this article and the tumpline was touted in the "80 Chouinard catalog.
And so I'm sharing the idea with anyone who has trouble using backpacks.

it is what it is

We all go

this little one though? it is a hit to me in many ways.

We drove non-stop, doing moving switches, peeing into bottles and arriving at dawn, just as the last of the crew from the gentleman's 'club' "The Junction*" were getting thru, we stopped there to call, remember pay phones? "We're here, get that coffee brewing" It all seems a dream now .
Eldo, Taggers, Rincon, Over the Hill, Wurks Sup, . . Estes/RMNP Living below the McGregor slabs, What did we do? The Petite, Flat Top, 3 on Hallets, A try on Alice, And D1 with what looked & felt like a storm pending . . .
Lumpy Ridge, a Simo-solo of ? the organ pipes(?)(ya gnow, maybe I'll go ask on that other forum, what climb this is)
Dave telling me (too) "Ya just gotta stay cool mhan"
& Dave sending the hard crack on the back of. . .? "Twin Owls"

It was Dan, Dave and I , , , wow? -sad- is not what I feel

The 1 or 2 of the very best of the best ive had the honor to call , Off Belay to.
