Ruminations in the early a.m.
To create a story one starts with everything
that ever happened to anyone
then carve away the parts that don’t fit.
I’m joking. I’m not a sculptor.
A friend revealed to me that he disliked flying
because he was trapped in his assigned seating
where the chances are good that he must listen
during the flight to anecdotes exchanged
by other travelers in the seats ahead or behind;
and, for the most part, people are terrible story tellers.
so he always travels with earplugs or his iPod.
Back-tracking, filling in details, getting ahead of oneself,
plus often boring subject matter and even more boring details--
this is not how it is done by successful raconteurs and writers.
Good lawyers know this is true, as well.
On a plane one cannot just get up and change seats.
With a novel you can put it down
and eventually trade it for credit at a used bookstore
or leave it in a public place for someone else to find.
Or in a collection of short stories you just move on to the next
if one does not suit your fancy.
Or in a movie house, if the film sucks,
you can walk out having blown ten bucks.
Or watching TV you change the channel.
Or listening to the radio you scan for some other programming.
Or in a conversation with a boring person like your stupid boss
you do your best to feign interest while wishing they’d STFU and die.
Some (many) couples learn to half-listen and to nod their head at the proper time,
but never to ask questions for this could reveal
one is, in fact, "somewhere else."
Here on the Taco forum you learn which topics to avoid
and then never click on them again once you have determined this.
Or, seeing a post by a particular person, you skip their comments entirely.
I value variety of content and try to keep my posts interesting and readable.
If you as a reader of this thread feel we are not doing a good job,
let me know, but I'm warning you that I am not in control here.
Read this thread at your own risk and if you are not happy,
post something of your own here or STFU, but don't die.

^^^uplifting
nothing but blue skies
air and shadows
and dreams of stardom
along the walk of fame
well here's a surprise--you can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
black dream
i was black for a while today
my postprandial nap took me to the kialee market
with my father
the asian store which burned
and the family lee which owned it
were intact selling local produce
coconut milk & rice & fabric & sodas
i mentioned i needed a disguise
to attend some or other one's costume party
instantly mr lee said he had just the thing
he said "be black man--i show you"
eldest daughter (for reals now in university med school)
went in back and came out with items
mr lee showed me how to apply the washable dye
eldest daughter said "take your shirt off please"
and she applied the dye to my face and neck
i instantly became percy sledge
or shaft or alex haley or denzel
or half of the nicholas brothers
what my father was doing in the dream
besides wandering around checking out the goods
in a place he never even stopped into
let alone bought his milk or silk yardage
i don't know
i paid the lees twenty for the dye
and walked out a new man
with a new dream

Hi Gnome, everyone.
Gnome, what is that thing, standing sort of on end, with all the grooves in it? I have been trying to figure out what it was. My brain is not cooperating.
Neebee, thank you for the great birthday card! I had a super birthday! I had such fun and took the day off from the office and studio, that today when I work up, I thought it was Monday, because yesterday was so much like a Sunday that I knew I should be in the office today. Then I realized it was really Saturday, and I did not need to jump out of bed at 6:30. That was very fun.
Mouse, I am glad you are sleeping better and having interesting dreams, too.
All the Saturday chores are done, except putting away all the folded laundry and closing up the house for the night. I am sending lots of warm wishes for a beautiful Sunday with good things all around you. I am almost done with the super-gigantic project and then I will get to visit here more often. :)
Consider yourselves all sprinkled with * < Fairy Dust > *

No Dingus, haven’t flown there yet...thx for the tip though, I’ll have to check it out one of these days.
I’m building a new race plane. Another P-51. The P-38 build is on hold, next in line though.
I’ve Had My Say
I was near delirium tremens
The next step along the way
When she took the kids and left me
With nothing left to say
So I drank myself a bender
Unremarkable to convey
That such was my condition
'Twards perdition on that day
The sky was red
When I came to
My world was split
For all I knew
I'd lost my love
And family too
The sky was red
Instead of blue
So I drank myself a bender
Unremarkable to convey
That such was my condition
'Twards perdition on that day
Some would say I saw the light
But that night I saw only blue
In the morning I saw scarlet
And I didn't have a clue
I'd lost my love
And family too
The sky was red
Instead of blue
But my love came back
What could I say
Only after I’d died
I remember the day
What say you to a man
Gone and back from the dead
Was gone such a long time
‘Twas the price I had to pay
Only grieve for the loved ones
Life always goes full circle
Don’t grieve for me friend
You know I’ve had my say

You might say that DMT's photo shows the flip side of downtown LA (not too far from Hollywood).
I worked on 3 projects down there in those buildings.
Suntory, Gasco & Transamerica
Not my favorite place to visit
Very few bike riders in those days though
I liked Century City much better
That's me there on the 39 floor

All our innocence and yearning

But that began happening a long time ago anyway,
back when America was great.
Sometimes it gets so-o-o cold,
So come warm yourselves at The Flames.
We have no walls here,
and respect for one another,
day in and day out.
