Grown in Livingston by friend Dennis from Delhi. He calls 'em "Delicots."
The Delicata squash has a tender skin and probably this is the reason behind the name.
It has a creamy color skin with green striped lines along the ridges.*
Because of the delicate skin this is hard to store for a long time.
Also known as Bohemian squash, peanut squash and sweet potato squash, this is used in cooking and resembles the summer squash.

* Topographical error by the authors of this info...the stripes run in the valleys lateral to the ridges.

It is raining.

The godchildren and grand-godchldren left today. Daughter of one of Doug's best friends, her husband and their two little girls. I took them for a hike on the Continental Divide Trail, but they are Seattle -area lowlanders, and the elevation and heat were too much for them, so we hiked back down and I drove to a picnic table in shade on the Divide, where we had a lovely picnic.

Today I saw them off at the airport and came home to open the house to the cooling air of the approaching storm, spilling over the Divide. The temperature dropped 30F in less than two hours. I love this weather.

Mouse, I hope your A/C is working well, and that you are savoring ice water or icy tea. I'm having icy ginger/lemon water. It is only going up to about 89F tomorrow, which will be a lovely relief. My new job starts Monday. More on that later. :)

The apple trees are burgeoning with apples, the cherries are growing, and the cattails are flourishing. I've been dipping my toes in all the recent cool water photos on here, thanks guys. :) neebee, know when you read this that I am going to write to you tomorrow. I have not had time to hold my fountain pen in a week, so it is going to be a treat to have time to write a few real letter. :) I hope the gardens are doing well. My Calgary Blanket has bloomed.
Off to enjoy the cool air . . .

This is as close as I can come to what is locally called Calgary Blanket or Calgary Carpet Flower.
It grows wild here and in Canada, and may have other names.

I like it for its hardiness. We are having very hot, dry weather this year, and yet this flower is flourishing in the flower beds. The hollyhocks and other flowers are struggling through the heat.

Off to forage for suitable paper to write the letter, neebee. I have a Waterman Pen, and a Mont Blanc. But I write with a Sheaffer calligraphy pen nib most of the time, and also use it often when I do pen and ink drawings. My Waterman pen has a medium nib, and the Blanc has a fine nib. I keep my grandmother's inkwell on my desk so I can have the fun of using ink from it, and dipping the pen nib also gives a rhythm to my writing. :) Looking forward to one of your beautiful cards as well.

neebee,
I am sending a postcard to you with all three nibs and pens on it, all done with the exact same ink, so it is the same viscosity and pigmentation to the ink, so you can see the differences in flow and stroke.

Mouse, I am sending a calligraphy postcard to you illustrating our present weather conditions. :)

Oh my, it looks very wilted. Most things here are suffering badly. I hope we all get sufficient rain soon. And that the days cool a bit more.
My girlfriend in AZ is almost trapped in her home by the heat.
Stay cool, everyone. This too shall pass.

PR Web: $50,000 Reward Announced for Family Dog FD-26 Grateful Dead Avalon Ballroom 9/16/66 Concert Poster by Psychedelic Art Exchange
World record prices offered for Family Dog Avalon Ballroom concert posters from 1966 in any condition.
PARK CITY, UTAH (PRWEB) JULY 13, 2017

A $50,000 reward has just been announced by Psychedelic Art Exchange for anyone that has an authentic, undamaged original first printing of the Family Dog FD-26 Concert Poster. The concert poster promotes two days of performances by the Grateful Dead that took place at the Avalon Ballroom on September 16 and 17, 1966.

"We recently auctioned off a copy of the FD-26 concert poster that generated tremendous interest around the world," explained Scott Tilson of Psychedelic Art Exchange, the auction house offering the reward. "Now we have a few other collectors begging us for this important concert poster. We're hoping our $50,000 reward for an undamaged copy brings at least one seller out of the woodwork. Collectors need to know we would be thrilled to acquire this special poster in any condition and we're willing to pay a world record price to get it," explained Tilson.

The Family Dog FD-26 Grateful Dead concert poster has special historical significance because it's the very first time the Grateful Dead and an image of skull and roses appeared together. Soon thereafter, the skull and roses became the Grateful Dead's trademark. Around 1500 original first printings were produced and just a small fraction of those are known to exist today. If you have a Family Dog FD-26 Grateful Dead concert poster you wish to sell, or any other Family Dog Avalon Ballroom concert posters from 1966, call Scott Tilson at 435-659-1660 or email Scott (at)ConcertPosterGallery.com

Sweet Bird of Youth, Williams’ 1959 play, tells the story of Chance Wayne, an aging gigolo and failed actor, who returns to his hometown with delusions of youthful grandeur and hopes of reuniting with his long lost love, Heavenly.
