Congrats to Ruben Plaza on his win today
He is now in the elite club of those who have won a stage in all 3 grand tours.
......but still bummed that Peter Sagan hasn't got a win in this years tour.

I thought Geraint Thomas was dead. Or at least seriously injured. But he only ended up losing about a minute.

That's probably what saved him. Helped lessen the impact on the side of his head or his neck. Watching it, it didn't look like he could have hit it any worse.

That did look bad. Good thing he wasn't wearing one of those old style hair nets. That helmet probably saved his life.

If, as it seems from the video clip, Barguil rode straight into him and caused the crash, can penalties be imposed?
Can one be disqualified for recklessly endangering other riders?

They normally only relagate a rider if they do somehting reckless, usually in sprint. If you make a bonehead mistake and take someone else out (it looked like he unclipped/slid out making a bike handling error) they often don't penalize.
He will probably have some splainin' to do now that the stage is over.
Edit:
Yikes!!!

My first thoughts too were: f*#k, I hope he is not dead. It looked absolutely awful. He probably had slowed down just enough when he hit that pole that it didn't go any worse.

The more I watch video of the crash, the more it looks deliberate.
I'm sure it wasn't, but man, it sure looks like a hockey game. It looks like he lined Thomas up in his sights, and then hip-checked him into the boards.

Looks like the guy wasn't trying to make the curve but maybe he was coming into it too hot?
So the Team Sky "supplement" conspiracy theory...lol Ever since he-who-shall-not-be-named...
I had my French connection tighten Contador's brakes so they'd rub to slow him down. Sorry, no Giro/Tour link-up for you, buddy!

I think the peleton will handle the relagating. There were a lot of unhappy riders.
He also started that massive pile up that took out Cancellara and happened to be the guy Tony Martin fell into when he broke his collar bone.
If he didn't have bad luck he would have no luck at all :)

After the exchange, Sagan was asked why he went into the breakaway for a third straight day, replying because "I have big balls" leaving the interviewer stunned before letting out a nervous laugh and continuing on.

More like incompetence or malfeasance than bad luck!
He just plain screwed up trying to ride the inside line or intentionally body checked him.
Bad form either way.
Then again, I think everyone in our game long enough knows someone that is an "epic" magnet. They just need to be present for bad things to happen.

I like Sagan in his interview after the descent chasing Plaza when asked "did you hope to catch Plaza?," "I no hope, I chust try."
At least Oleg has wised up about Peter, "the best rider in the race."
“I’m glad because I was going for second place. No, I’m joking,” Sagan said in his nasally voice.
“I really don’t know what I should do better. I tried everything. I knew I had to try as hard as I could in the descent even if it meant dying.”

We'll see what happens next year when Richie Porte signs with BMC. Tejay may leave for another team or stay and work to support Porte?

Sagan did have an awesome descent. A bike handling clinic. Prolly my favorite rider these days.
Crash Barguil's team manager should have Sagans descent video playing on loop in his hotel rooms for the rest of the tour.

Sagan is always mixing it up. He makes any race more entertaining. His decending was awesome. He just made his move a little too late.
