From Velo News

When asked to size up his top rivals, van Garderen was the first name Froome mentioned as he rattled off his most dangerous opponents.

“If I have to assess most of my rivals at the moment, Tejay [van Garderen] is on great form,” Froome said. “He’s only a few seconds back, and he’s ridden really well all week.”

About the toughness of bikers:

Back in the 80's (I know before your time) I watched a race where a rider crashed and opened a big gash in his head. Got back on the bike and his team pulled up in a car with a doctor, who examined the wound and recommended stitches. The rider wouldn't stop, so the doc hung out the window and stitched the guy up while he was still racing. Unbelievable.

Hoogerland finished the stage after a media car knocked him into a barbwire fence. Woosies need not apply.

agreed. yeah, he was a doper, but I've always liked the guy. I am glad that he won the Giro, twice.

That's some fine needlework.

And speaking of needlework, I'll bet we start hearing doping rumors after what just happened today.

Considering the history of the sport, how could you NOT doubt results like this...
He just utterly destroyed nearly all his competitors on the very first serious climb.
I'm pretty sure there's something new on the market that the controls haven't quite caught up with yet. Wouldn't be surprised if we will see some prominent "casualties" in the next 2-3 years.

But maybe I'm just bitter that a sport I really really like watching has been a non-stop shitshow over the last 15 years.

I hope it isn't the case, but when one competitor totally out rides the rest of the field and does it so easily you have to wonder.

Froome's presence in the Tour totally kills it for me. If its his to win, I have lost interest in this years race.

He looked crazy strong, but there is a ton more climbing coming. It will be interesting to see how he holds up.

Since he has Porte to support him, it is going to be tough for anyone to crack him, but it only takes one bad day in the mountains.

We will have to see . . . who knows how deep Froome went in this effort? Perhaps he will be unfazed, perhaps he will eventually crack. There is much riding left in this Tour and anything can happen . . . for now he is playing a dominant role in the maillot jaune and it is left to the other GC contenders to go after him.

If you haven't seen Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist on Netflix, do. The Giro, Alpe d'Heuz, Lance...

Nothing much new there, apart from some vague conspiracy theories. (which might as well be true considering how f*#ked up this world is)

However, one quite memorable moment:

After Pantani had just beat him to the top of Mt. Ventoux, Lance Armstrong
had nothing better to say than:

"I dunno what Pantani was thinking..... he's just a little shitstarter"

Class act.

Cough, cough...err...

Not just Froome. The top three Sky guys. Geraint Thomas beating a whole bunch of climbers. US Postal all over again, with Thomas in the Hincapie role.
