Guys, you see what has happened when we let women have the right to vote and to be climbers?
They vote and they climb.

My climbing pants have 7% Lycra, but I don't think I qualify for the cool club.

One rap of 1" nylon sling around your waist.
... Only a real climber can do this. Tell it to Tobin - who ran it out with the rope tied in a noose around his neck.

Let's cut to the chase....on this forum you're a real climber if you actually climb.

Well…it’s a free-for-all, isn’t it. But J-Do is right: if you actually climb, you are,—what?— a real climber. I think however, many of us are wondering if maybe some of these efforts, these climbs, might just be a little bit more than a home movie? I do sense some begging.

Only wusses used swamis. Real climbers/men just tied directly in to the rope. Why waste good webbing?

so... you're an imaginary climber if you just post about climbing (without necessarily doing it much, anymore)
and a complex climber if you do both?
so we can define a quantity of magnitude and an angle designating how much "imaginary" and how much "real"
to make it more complicated, negative values of "real" climbing are the lapses of our real climbing (e.g. confusing "french free" with "free"), and negative values of "imaginary" climbing are the various forms of slander and lies we tell...
Climber = √{ real² + imaginary² } x sinφ
some of us live lives with 0 ≤ φ ≤ π/2 and large magnitude...
[sorry, written on a day I should have been out climbing, but am not... φ = π/2, or maybe -π/2]

How did we get from real climbers defined by swamis and lycra to instead real climbers defined by climbing and posting? Oh well...
On another topic, Ed, best not to write formulas when you wish you were out climbing. If that is supposed to represent the complex exponential, it is missing a term and a factor...

Many real climbers I have known were missing a term and a factor.

Let's cut to the chase....on this forum you're a real climber if you actually climb.
...when in a group of 4 or more climbers...wearing lyrca...
Just sayin'!!
I'm waiting folks... :)
Rgold, thank you for all the wonderful pictures. This month, I'm watching the Aspen's change and reminiscing of past Gunks fun. And I think that Lycra HAS to be at the discretion (or lack thereof) of the wearer...whatever works!
and thank you everyone else for the awesome pics. I do love them!
Cheers

Most of us are real climbers, but there's some unreal ones. Donini is one of them, and here's another:

Real climbers get in and out of belays quickly...a lost art today.
Real climbers take common sense shortcuts not found in any "how to" book.
Real climbers are adverse to the "herd instinct" and seek adventure far from the maddening crowd,
Real climbers commit to themselves and their partner and don't bail at the slightest opportunity.
Real climbers update their gear and don't use "old technology" as an excuse for lowered performance.
Real climbers understand the three things you need for alpine climbing:
a plane ticket
duct tape
the RIGHT partner

I love the Warbler's and Donini's lists, except for this one:
"Real climbers don't let their SO cut into their climbing time too much."
That one proves I'm not a real climber, I'm afraid.
