it is not the one that you see that will get you.
I've seen two in the past two years. One a big male at 11:00 at night at 30 yards and one a young cat about 60-70 lbs midday. Neither attacked me. They avoided me.
I continue to walk in the woods at all hours without fear.

I fear the heavy caliber weapons shooters down the canyon more. I've got more chance of being hit by one of their stray rounds.
Like the ones that likely fired off a propane tank on Tuesday and burned down a house and garage. One ridge and a little over a mile from my place.

^^^agreed. I don't worry about myself, But used to worry about my kids a lot going out in the woods when they were small. I also think the Black Hills where I live is a lot different environment than the bigger mountains out west and there are more houses out in the woods around here and we need to learn to coexist a little better.

As usual, anti-Americans like Rong and John E deliberately misquote the law.

The law says:

The bill would exempt from that prohibition the use of dogs by federal, state, or local law enforcement officers, or their agents or employees, when carrying out official duties as required by law.

http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201120120SB1221

Of course, they may not know that, because they are used to the sloppy lawmaking (when it happens) that we get from Repugs.

Aggressive cat attacks kid in front of family. Family defends attack. Kid hurt but will recover.
F & W tracks cat, cat bad, gotta go, shot.

If attackers increase in frequency, things will happen.
Otherwise, since they are extremely rare, life goes on.

No irony, nothing.

Coulda been Alaska. Aggressive Mama Bear goes haywire looking for recognition.

Who let the dawgs out?

The Palin family was asked to leave the party after Track Palin, 21, attacked another party guest who had previously dated his younger sister, Willow Palin, Thompson said.

“I heard Sarah Palin yell do you know who I am? All of us could not believe it. We thought we were watching an episode of Jerry Springer,” he added.

Anyway, fukkin'A right. All hunters, whether professional or amateur, should be able to waterboard, without regard to race, religion, or governmental affiliation.

Can I sic my Yorkie on a rat underneath the house? Ratdawg on, MF.

Oh man, a drunk Palin family. Now that"s a dangerous situation.

"They should have" is easy to say. The cat was up 70' in a tree. They're not going to send someone up or wait around long, aware it could escape. I love the beasts, never want to have a run in with one, but feel this was justified upder the circumstance.

You can try to make it some bigger statement about "Big Govenment Run Amuk", that's what right-wingers do, but you're wrong, as usual.

So why oh why did they choose to hunt him down with dogs, tree him and then shoot his arse.

Admittedly I haven't read the thread, but was it a Negro?

Well mike, according to South Dakota regs, dogs may be used in most areas of the state for the hunting of Mtn lions.. and the quota listed is 75 lions per season..I believe that was changed in 2012 or 13.

The quota applies only within the Black Hills National Forest
There are no limits outside of the hills for residents only and is year round.
The use of hunting mountain lions with dogs within the Black Hills Nation Forest is illegal.
Dogs are allowed within Custer State Park where almost 8% are harvested.
The overwhelming amout of cats harvested (near 90%) in SD are taken within the national forest without the use of dogs.
Dogs may be used outside of these two places with a special permit.

i hope you realize that without canine assistance, there would harldly be ANY, repeat ANY mt lions killed. And those populations would be so enormous that all other wildlife including hikers would be decimated

Wrong, as usual.

You had the link earlier when you told Mike about our regs here in SD.

You aren't interested in digging into the link you had earlier since it will just show your wrong, same with your sweeping statement of lions in your state being different.
Grasping at straws as usual.

Well Johnboy im glad you have a crystal ball. as i do not.

But ill tell you this,, that there must have been a reason why your governor apporved the use of dogs in hunting lions in your state. And im 100% sure those reasons came from your wildlife mngmt of the state.

But as far as MY state goes, and i have 46 years of being involved in the wildlife mngmt goings on, and know and have known just about every game warden in the state, ill just laugh at your all encompassing comments

You have the crystal ball, you made the sweeping statement.
Does the Governor tell the GF&P how to hunt lions?
Still to lazy to only bring partial supporting facts to light and not look up the whole picture?

Since your going to play LEB here, I'll replay it for you ma'am.

Dogs are only allowed outside of the national forest with special permits, if you want to dig into to it, you won't since you don't want to hear it, those permits are almost exclusively used for lions that are problematic.

You can dance all day if you wish, the facts are that 90% of the lions taken in SD are done without dogs.
Change what ever you need to to make your outrageous claims fit into your ears LEB, change whatever meanings you want so you can laugh, by yourself.

You're correct.
It's private landowners/squatters down in Deliverance country about a mile below my house.
yeah, Deliverance country right here in good ole Santa Cruz county.
CalFire won't go in those private roads without a Sheriff escort.
And the Sheriff generally won't go in unless there's a fire.
