I don't consider that behavior "good style." At all. Jokes made at the expense of others are a very low form of humor.

He looks like the LA version of a NYC wholesale fashion sales department manager.

And Ward - What is it that makes you want to cast me as "obnoxious?"

Is it that women aren't supposed to voice negative opinions about "powerful" men? Since I don't think you and I know each other in real life, I have to wonder just what is it that makes you want to consider me obnoxious. I'm pretty sure no one who has met me would put me in that category, so am guessing you are wishing I would stick to making "cute" quips in more appropriate threads like the "Selfies", or stamping my foot in faux outrage in the "Female Climber Issues"one.

I didn't cast you as obnoxious. I don't even know you.
I was making the point that someone with a value system the opposite of yours could likewise consider your lifestyle an obnoxious caricature in the same way you clearly consider the Caddy guy. What goes around comes around.
Capiche?

If they made a commercial based on a loose profile of your lifestyle--or mine---people would get bored or disgusted. Trust me. (If it were Arson they'd call the police.)
So it doesn't matter if our caddy guy works for a fashion retailer or owns a small automotive chain.

The Caddy guy creates jobs, consumes, drives a good car, nice house---he is therefore reprehensibly evil and disgusting . Right?
Or could it be his swagger that's got everyone's underclothes in a bunch?

when you buy a cadillac, does the dealership automatically throw in a pair of white patent leather shoes to wear down at the timeshare in the Keys?

who needs a house out in hackensack?

I apologize, Ward. When you posted
Could your lifestyle be caricatured in the same way . Probably. Do you fit a type? Obnoxious or otherwise?
in a post that seemed to be in response to my words, I comprehended it as suggesting I fit into a "obnoxious(or otherwise)" type.

I don't know about your general lifestyle being boring but mine ain't. While it's very true that mine wouldn't sell luxury products, I have plenty of people that actually DO follow my antics. People ask me, frequently, "How did you have the courage to walk(away from career-oriented lifestyle)?" and say they are awed at some of the steps I have taken, wishing they could do similar. But yeah...it would have to be a PSA for anti-consumerism, and not an ad for products.

The Caddy guy creates jobs, consumes, drives a good car, nice house---he is therefore reprehensibly evil and disgusting . Right?

....umm, no. I don't think that is it.

Or could it be his swagger that's got everyone's underclothes in a bunch?

I think that "swagger" is a term that carries a positive connotation, and I don't see that dude as being a positive sort of person. But yes, it is definitely his attitude that goes against my grain.

I know plenty of people who have got very nice houses, who don't act like they are better than others. Ive had a client whose home was in Architectural Digest, two who were film producers, another with a picture in his Tribeca top-floor loft of himself and Iggy Pop laughing it up BITD...and none of those people would have been seen walking with their butt-cheeks clenched through life like that dude seems to be.

Not offensive to me.

Perhaps sometime he will be humming this:

And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself
Well...How did I get here?

and next:

Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife

There is a new BMW diesel wagon, 3 class. Pretty sporty and diesel! Available in an M version. I'll never have one.. I've only owned one new car in my life ford truck. BMW is the Ford of the Hamptons and Audi is ford of Aspen etc. The nice cars are where the money is.

I could have been much clearer in my wording.Sorry. Clarity is something I work on all the time.

You may not consider your life reproachable. That's good. But neither does our Caddy guy consider his life in a bad light.

I know plenty of people who have got very nice houses, who don't act like they are better than others.

Their swagger is on the inside. Trust me on this. The Caddy guy is just a bit more honest and doesn't give a rat's behind what other people think . He has worked hard to get where he's at and is not going to hide that fact just to be politically correct to cocktail party types who expect him to fashionably downplay his hard-won success.

Actually the Caddy guy isn't real.... He's an actor pretending to be a pig to get people like us talking about the commercial. And, it's working. DAMMIT - we've been trolled by marketing mavens!

But about "swagger hidden" - I don't think that a person can really do that. If you pay attention, you can easily spot disingenuous posturing.

edit: Yes,Bullwinkle - fell for it just like I did the Duck Dynasty media crap. It will be a good thing come May and I don't have a TV in front of me. I have been watching 90 Day Fiance, American Pickers, Say Yes to the Dress, and Sister Wives....but those usually have pretty boring commercials.

This is a dying car manufacturer grasping at straws at best. Who the hell buys a Cadillac these days? That demographic has either died or their kids won't let them renew their licenses anymore. So you get a sorry attempt at claiming a new, very narrowly defined demographic. So long Cadillac.

If that's the case (I ain;t watchiung no f#@%ng ads to find out), then truly a nueveau riche, declasse' pretender. Pardon my spellingm, can't type on a cell phone worth a toot.

Any moron with a modicum of fashion sense knows you NEVER button the bottom one. Not on a two button, not on a three button, not even on the ridiculous 8 button jobs seen commonly on ex-NFL and NBA players turned TV commentators.

so its politically correct to care what someone else thinks, and that is All Bad? wow.. what a sad state your beliefs have gotten to.

Go bolt your way up El Capitan if you can't climb it any other way. why should you care what anyone else thinks. God forbid we were ever politically correct.

Argument break, time for coffee, snacks, and bad caddy jokes...

Q: What is the difference between a Cadillac and a porcupine?
A: Porcupines have pricks on the outside.

Materialistic Lawyer

A lawyer opened the door of his Cadillac CTS, when suddenly a car came along and hit the door, ripping it off completely. When the police arrived at the scene, the lawyer was complaining bitterly about the damage to his precious Cadillac.

"Officer, look what they've done to my Caddieee!!!", he whiningly said.

"You lawyers are so materialistic, you make me sick!!!" retorted the officer, "You're so worried about your stupid Cadillac, that you didn't even notice that your left arm was ripped off!!!"

"Oh my god....", replied the lawyer, finally noticing the bloody left shoulder where his arm once was, "Where's my Rolex?

Mid Life Crisis

A man in his 40's bought a new Cadillac CTS convertible and was out for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair, and he decided to open her up.

As the needle jumped up to 90 mph, he suddenly saw flashing red and blue lights behind him. "There's no way they can catch a Cadillac CTS," he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 100, 120.... then the reality of the situation hit him.

"What the hell am I doing?" he thought and pulled over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word, and examined it and the car. "It's been a long day, this is the end of my shift, and it's Friday the 13th. I don't feel like more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go."

The guy thinks for a second and says, "Last week my wife ran off with a cop. I was afraid you were trying to give her back."

"Have a nice weekend," said the officer
