But what's wrong with electric cars?

According to a thread on Stupidtopo, our electricity is going to be cut one day soon.

Yep, I find it quite offensive. Disgusting, frankly.

Propaganda to make us keep our heads in the sand and carry on..

Jaybro nailed it, as usual.

This Fight Club quote comes to mind.

Cadillac killed Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" for me.

This ad is pretty terrible too, but obviously caters to a class of people who believe what this ad says.

Pretty ironic about the hubris re: who's going back to the moon. This ad was aired when China was actually driving a lunar rover on the moon, when the US has not been there (at least as far as any non-classified missions) in decades.

Then again, just 3 days later China reported losing communication with their lunar vehicle. So it's an opportunity to cheer for their loss and buy American?

I believe there is a "silent majority" on ST that really, really wants to get one of those sweet-assed Caddies after watching that commercial.
Or at least I do :)

IIt says that if you don't can't afford a cadillac, then its because you didn't work hard enough. Good lord, what simplistic thinking.

Caddy makes a sweet car, power, control, comfort.

Nice thing about em is they lose value really fast and can be purchased cheap and still pretty sweet a few years later.

A new caddy means you are an Idiot and like to throw money away.

I saw it last night during the Olympics,I think, and yes, I found it offensive.

The guy portraying the obnoxious dude looks a LOT like a man who refused to share the sidewalk with Teddy and I a few years ago, got his face within inches of mine and said - in a very controlled and quiet voice - "I could kill you right her, you cunt"

....I can imagine the dude in that Cadillac commercial coming upon a woman on a Chelsea sidewalk and threatening her. Wish I was knew how to manipulate videos - I'd make some versions that showed this creepy guy doing things like that, "accidentally" kicking a street person sitting with his back against a building as he walks by, ranting at a server in a restaurant who doesn't perform fast enough for his liking....

Caddys are awesome. For the reason mentioned above...you can get em dirt cheap for the comfort/quality etc, and they are great used cars because the grandpa driving them keeps them serviced, doesn't drive them hard, etc.

Palm Springs and Vegas are good markets to find them. Lots of older folks either passing from the mortal coil or giving up driving altogether. GM quality has actually been very good over the last decade. I wouldn't have touched one from the 70s-90s. Took a longish drive from north GA to south FL in one a few years back and was highly impressed. Whisper quiet, very comfortable and powerful.

They look like garbage, but that should be a feature not bug for you anti-advert, anti consumerist types.

As for ads...who TF watches ads in the days of DVRs (not that I have TV service, but even I know that).

kill tens of thousands and your a job creator

This is the politically radicalized baby boomer's warped value system on display. If an individual creates jobs ---then that individual is a murderer of thousands, millions. Or at the very least he's the guy who reminds you of some ass-wad who gave you a bad experience on a sidewalk somewhere, or who blows by you on the freeway in his luxury sedan.

But if you are a hip communist/socialist revolutionary ,who creates little else but inescapable poverty and dictatorial tyranny ,then you are a certified savior of mankind , despite just the odd couple of dozen you've managed to slaughter and imprison along the way.

an individual create jobs

Nowhere in that commercial did it say that dude was a "job creator." He comes across as a workaholic, middle management, over caffeinated man who barely gets acknowledged by his wife as she walks buy him, because she is probably tired of his rantings.

He looks like the kind of guy who will bitch about illegal immigration, in front of the maid who may or may not be a legal resident, but he wouldn't know because they set up her employment as being off the books.

This could be true. But trust me---none of that stuff matters, or should matter in the context we are discussing. Besides, the job creation issue was brought up by someone who thinks creating jobs is killing people. Typical of many who got their political brains wired in the 60s and 70s.

The Caddy guy ,with his income stream and level of taxation, is creating jobs regardless of his views on immigration, whether he has a maid, what his wife thinks of him, or his coffee consumption.
These, btw, are caricatures that are based on your particular side of the value divide.

Could your lifestyle be caricatured in the same way . Probably. Do you fit a type? Obnoxious or otherwise?

And " Arson" .Settle down a little---we don't want you starting any intentional fires any time soon. Again.

"Middle management" maybe means different things to different people, but it looks like he lives in a very expensive house (check out the pool in the first scene and the exterior of the house in the last).
He looks and acts like a typical rich business guy, it's as simple as that.
I liked his little dig at the French (n'est-ce pas?) and wink at the end!
Guy's got some good style, that's for sure.

Yup, that's him. Just a little fatter.
