First water skiing on Tenaya, now bikinied skaters. What next?

Tioga Pass opening and closing dates are very carefully hidden in the YNP website: http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/seasonal.htm

The latest the pass has closed since the records start in 1980 is December 11th.

Tioga Pass breaks record for being open in winter
January 4, 2012 by jeffpelline

On January 2, Tioga Pass (9,943 feet) set the all-time record (since 1933) of being open. In fact, the road has been open only six times in December since 1933.

I’ve been going to Tioga Pass since childhood, fishing at the lakes. I can remember routinely walking across snow in July to make a cast into Tioga Lake.

Here’s a look at driving up the beautiful pass to Yosemite National Park with the National Wildlife Federation’s California Director, Beth Pratt.

A choice between Yosemite/Tuolumne and Joshua Tree for MLK weekend - that's just weird.

Keeping fingers crossed the pass stays open as long as possible.

I'd love to get to Tuolumne or the the Valley in a weekend or two.

Meanwhile in Tahoe, resorts are temporarily laying folks off until it snows...

great. that'll spike traffic over at ukc. followed in short order by a spike in airline tix from heathrow to lax and sfo. followed by a spike in itinerant chain-smoking brits lurking cali and applying for green cards.

last nail in the coffin.

I'd love to get to Tuolumne or the the Valley in a weekend or two.

I heard 2nd half of January will bring fierce storms and chaos, I would make my way up there now.

Are those beautiful ladies a free promo for "Girls Girls Girls" on 120?

No bikinis unfortunately, but here was the sunset from Tenaya Lake on Jan 2nd. Unbelievable. Anybody else up there then?

Thanks for the entertaining pictures. Forecast suggests we'll add at least another 10 days to the record. Enjoying the Bay Area weather too - but hoping this is just a statistical aberration. It's still just 6 months since Squaw and Mammoth's last day for the '10-'11 season.
