Kept it going during the holidays despite little pains. Came home and did a big run - time to limp. Forced myself to do nothing for 5 days. This caused me to lose my mind. Back to it this week. Today I explored a new area, did not get lost, and am not limping. Happy dance!!

Forced myself to do nothing for 5 days. This caused me to lose my mind.

Had something like this happen 5 or so years ago and an old girlfriend introduced me to meditation. I found my mind and me a little differently after a some time practicing meditation for 20' in the morning. I used to get anxious and felt like I had to be doing something and whatnot. What I guess I needed to do was to think differently or gain awareness.

Which one's you hitting? What kind of training are you doing?

Edit: Is it on the whole enchilada, LaSals->Moab?

My problem is that I enjoy eating 55 miles per week's worth of food and need the jaunts in nature to be a civil human being. Forced is the right word to pick for no aerobic activity days.

GOing out in an hour - can't wait.

scratched out a 16 mile run this morning before 7:30am. Last three were pure desire to get the # I set out to do and slow as hell, but hey, I finished. Then my boy and I biked 8 (4 each way) to Baskin Robbins.

Nice Salad!

A little over a hundred miles into the new years or me. I've been lagging. Mostly hiking, biking, snowshoeing and xcskiing, but tomorrow a rail run!, I swear!

cragar, i'm only doing the enchilada enduro. been trying to do it the last couple of years but didn't register in time.

it's not until august so i'm just trying to maintain a base and not get injured. started doing some weight training but i don't really have a set workout yet. i found this guy james wilson's youtube channel that has a bunch of mtb specific weight training. but mostly i'm just doing the race for fun with the main goal being to not get hurt.

edit: yes this is the whole enchilada ride that goes from burro pass in the la sals down to the colorado river.

Went on a search today for a hill route that wasn't suicidal.

You'd think with the San Gabriels for a backstop that would be easy, but although the MTBing is excellent most of the roads would be suicidal without driving to a trail-head first. I tend to bike from the house.

Today's exploration of the Whittier Hills was 27 mi 1,800 ft of gain with two fun 40mph downhills with good bike lanes.

I did try a shortcut for about three or four miles what turned out to be a really good single track, but it did have a couple of places I had to walk. First time I've had the cyclocross bike off pavement and the disc brakes got a good workout coming down the switchbacks.

Problem was more the geometry putting my weight too far forward to get traction than lack of lower gears.

I'll be back with the MTB!

Lots more to do in the same area.

Not so aerobic today, more likely technical...
Started Ice Skating lessons today to try to fast track to get back, or close to, how I used to be able to skate.
Fun!

During the last year or so I've focused more on high-intensity interval training and less on long aerobic rides. Gotta say it has been a real eye opener on sustaining muscle while upping endurance all in half the time expended.

I was getting burned out on 4 hour knuckle dragging rides and after fine tuning HIIT training and learning how too condense it down to 20 to 40 minutes, endurance, strength, and metabolism has been maxing out the morning wood scales.

Anyone else mixing up HIIT workouts with long term rides/runs?

Yes, but the older I'm gotten the more challenging the HIIT component is.... Trying to avoid that "geez, I'm going to die. here. right. now". A lot more monitoring heart rate and zones than ever before. If I get a good sequence and sustain a pattern of aerobic/HITT I feel a much greater sense of well being; overall strength and endurance.
