A Taco bump for our Ghost's Ballard Brewery's Full Conditions Imperial Stout. Not my style, but I finished all my Pilsners and the wife and I still had a thirst that needed to be slaked. It was like dessert. Awesome.

PTPP...easy...some wine makers...home wineries will ferment the grape and then add ever-clear or whatever to get the alcohol content up. Have you ever heard of portagee diesel?

I had to look up grappa, Aaron. Kind of an Eye-talian brandy, but as you say made from the skin, pulp, seeds and stems, not the actual fruit. But they say it's only up to 120 proof = 60%.

Luggi - what is this diesel of which you speak? I am leaning towards your theory of fortification with some pure distillate.

Of course, Mark = hairyapeman is a wine snob of considerable standing, and the supplier of a very fine bottle of Primitivo [a Zinfandel clone] that made it to the summit of El Cap without him. So one assumes he will elucidate for us wtf 150 proof Merlot is! At least, as soon as he gets back from climbing with his dad.

It's Saturday afternoon here in the Great White North, the sun is setting, and I am enjoying a Quail's Gate Chardonnay from Oaken, Okan, OK-in, some valley in British Columbia, which is pretty good. It is beginning to open up in my Eisch breathable glass a bit, and I am tasting the buttery ester from the malolactic fermention. But for me, what I need in a Chard is the buttery and oakey taste you can get from a [dare I say?] Appelation Livermore or Monterey.

The October Harvest Chardonnay from J. Lohr down in Paso Robles, but grown in Monterey, is the best I have ever had - unequivocally. Limited edition, you had to be at the winery to get the bottle. If you like Chard, I suggest you give them a call and see if there is any left. I *promise* you can't go wrong. It was the stuff on sale at the end of October.

It was actually my very first stop of the day, and I told the wine girl at J. Lohr that this was a little disconcerting to me. You see, when you go fishing, and you catch a fish in the first five or ten minutes, you're probably going to get skunked for the rest of the day. [This is not Big Wall Fishing Theory, this is Big Wall Fishing Fact] But I know what I like, and when I have it in my glass, I know when I need to shell out the thirty bucks so I can take it home in my pig, which is a rather large investment for this dirtbag.

It awaits in my winerack. I like to go and visit it every few days, just to stroke the bottle and say "hi", and let it know it's loved...

It's Saturday night - but here's raising the glass to Mark and Richard and Steve - proud proud proud reconciliation of past hurts. I'm so happy for those guys, I know the depths of their hurts and what this means to all of them.

Grappa is "good schist" in moderation.

More than one shot will "put hair on your chest."

C'mon, boys and girls, it's Saturday night, but we only have twenty-or-so posts to reach a grand. Think we can do it tonight?

I appreciate the input of you reformers, too. I am proud of your abstinence, willpower, inclusion and your being non-judgmental.

I would love to meet you all, and have a beer [or a pop] on the El Cap bridge next spring. How many posts do we have left, anyway?

And how 'bout that Steve? Proud!!! And Mark and Richard - are they cool, or what? I *told* you all along those guys are cool!

Despite getting up at 5:30 AM Mt. time to photograph the Lunar Eclipse----I am hanging on to wakefulness-----barely.

Fueled by a little 2006 Australian Shiraz-----that still bites like a sour-fist: I am moving onto Saturday Night Live.

Hope its not a rerun.

Heidi & I will snuggle up and watch, until I start snoring.

Back in the 80's my quote on Sat. Night Live was:

"If I'm stoned enough to enjoy the humor, I'm too sleepy to stay awake and watch the program."

"Hold my chardonnay and watch this..."

Only in Cali would some punter pull the tried and true:

Hold my beer and watch this.

And then think rednecks are drinking crappy white wine.

But to each there own

Better a homophone than a homo, especially on my thread [and in my portaledge].

And Spider - we have had this discussion before. On this thread, We Capitalize Our Varietals Like "Chardonnay", Get It? Unless you intentionally lower-cased your varietal in order to appear more redneck-like.

Mark - how'd your climbing go with your dad?
