Metolius Shawn :

On Tues Feb 3rd 2009 Shawn Snyder 38 of Mammoth was arrested for violation of parole , grand theft,
possession of stolen property, possession of weed over an ounce, possession of weed for sale and possession of paraphenalia.

So many chances and so many failures.

Shawn is sitting in Mono County jail awaiting arraignment .

This article is from March of 2008

i know Shawn from Bend in the mid '90's.

Something happened to that man there that changed his spirit.

It is sad.

truly sad, I wouldn't have wished the problems he faced last March, on anyone, now he's done it again only worse...

Man, that guy has got some problems. He stole a bunch of stuff out of the back of Tom Wood's truck in Bishop last year. Obviously he's a kleptomaniac, but its had to feel sorry for the guy. Man, what an idiot.

My guess is he'll draw another six months for parole violation and be out by the end of summer.

That's too bad, if the story is true and he's a multiple serial thief, people like that should just be locked up and kept away from honest people.

As long as he avoids the violent felonies there's not really much the law's going to do to him.

He's probably been sent back to State Prison by now, Monday at the latest. D.A.s don't want to waste their time on something that may get the guy six months in county jail - if that - when they can send him to The Joint for an automatic six month stretch with no hearing, no appeal, no review - just on the call of his parole officer.

My gut tells me the system has had it with him and he will do at least a year plus.

My mind tells me they should start cutting off his digits.

Shawn stayed at my house on and off for a few years;......and he was always totally cool with me;....I've heard the stories about his rip offs, and I've talked to him many times about lots of stuff;.....he had a very rough and trying childhood, and he's tried to keep it straight;.....but oftentimes with big setbacks and run-ins with the law;..change does not come easily for some, and Shawn really struggles with many of his "less than stellar " decisions........I hope he gets it right one of these days;....he's a really good dude, with a great spirit, a smile and a good word, and a world class slackliner and one of the most gifted and talented climbers I have ever climbed with......I thought he was locked up already for a bunch of years from last years slip-up,...but I guess he's done it again......I personally like Shawn alot, but I know that people he's ripped off don't feel the same, and I understand that......I wish him the best, and greatly look forward, as always, to seeing him again..........

During the search officers recovered reported stolen property from 2006 & 2009.

Shawn denied any involvement in the thefts.

Gee, I can't believe it!!!!!

No, wait! Yes I can. I was wondering how he got out so fast from the last one.

He does look happy in his mug shot, though!

Todd- I've had the same experiences as you regarding Shawn. He stayed at my house in El Portal a few times for a few days each. I know about his childhood. He's had some rough times, and I think considering his start in life, he's doing pretty well.
I understand why people who have been ripped off would dislike him. He's been nothing but rad to me.

Thievery is cowardice. Plain and simple.

Especially stealing from other climbers. Lame.

Who F**king cares.

Ive only seen this guy once try to rig a highline, and he was a dick about it the whole time. He didnt even try to walk it.

Hes not a legendary highliner, and his first -crosses are questionable.

I dont see why his sh#t is so newsworthy.

I spent a good amount of time with Shaun one summer. I've done some rad things with him. His childhood demons have plagued his life far beyond his ability to effectively cope with them in society. He seriously lives in an alternate reality where his rationale would not make sense to anyone but him. He has made poor choices, but he has a good heart. It seems that it is impossible for him to escape from his upbringing. Some of the first highlines I walked were rigged by Shaun and I can vouch for his talent as an athlete.
