WASHINGTON – Federal agents have broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree, the ATF said Monday.
In court records unsealed Monday, federal agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target a predominantly African-American high school by two neo-Nazi skinheads. Agents said the skinheads did not identify the school by name.
Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said the two men planned to shoot 88 black people and decapitate another 14. The numbers 88 and 14 are symbolic in the white supremacist community.
The men also sought to go on a national killing spree, with Obama as its final target, Cavanaugh told The Associated Press.
"They said that would be their last, final act — that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama," Cavanaugh said. "They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying."

unfortunately, I was thinking about this the other day... It's a sad thing to think that when Obama is Prez, the odds of an attempt on his life - solely based on his skin color - is quite probable. It's really disheartening to see that wackos are already out there making plans... *sigh*
That being said, I'm sure that he (and his family)knows/has thought about this, as has the Secret Service. It must be a tough thing to have to talk to your family about this stuff... "So, you know that if I win the Presidency (or maybe on the way there) this could happen...."
Then I reminded myself that if Shrub made it through 8 years without someone gunning his criminal ass down that maybe there's hope that it won't be an issue.

Nixon is said to be the first to work toward the politics of division which has been followed since that time. Over the past forty years and more we have become increasingly fractured with the extreme elements increasingly distant from the center.
If the present administration had not seen fit to start a spurious war, had not seen fit to disregard our Constitutional checks and balances, and had not conspired with special interests to bring down the economy, we would not now be in position to halt this process of division.
If the destruction of the economy has a positive side, it is that discussion among us is now more unified than it has been at any time since, I would say, 1900.
Mr. Bush has visibly given us the tools we needed to reverse Mr. Nixon's destructive actions.
We have our work cut out for us.
All of us.
P.S. Dwight Eisenhower did not support Nixon's bid for the presidency.
We should have listened to Ike.

Of course I worry and am worried, but nobody got a shot and chimpie for 8 years and OJ managed to stay alive in society as well.
If somebody gets Obama, it will be because somebody in power let it, or made it, happen

The two are being held without bond.
The story said the two men met online about a month ago and discovered their common bond/interest in white supremacy.
I guess the police must have learned the details of the intended crime by searching their computers? It's hard for me to imagine(though....not really, I guess) some yahoo admitting to the police "Yessir, We'ze gonna wear top hats and white tuxedos when we commence our killin' spree."
I do hope Obama's got good security. Really good. It would be so awful for an attempt on his life to get made.

Happie- Obama's security is the Secret Service. It's not some mystery. And they better be the best at what they do by now.
On the up side, as LEB/Woody/bluering would say, "he appears to be getting on some people's nerves so he must be doing something right!"

weschrist, please do everyone a favor and google "kill obama rally unfounded". even you will have to admit that the stories about mccain-palin supporters routinely shouting "kill him" in reference to obama are completely bogus. is it too much to ask that we at least limit the political discussions to ranting, distortion and hyperbole, without resorting to outright lies? probably just pissing in the wind here, but i had to try...
