Um? The impending apocalypse of exploding population running smack into the ecological limits. Hard to dissect when the options are frack water or dying of thirst.

There is only one environmental problem.

An aggressively invasive non-indigenous species has displaced many indigenous species to the detriment of the ecosystem as a whole. When it has run it's course, it will toxify the environment past the point of it's ability to adapt to it. Only when it is fully dead, can the biosphere truly start to rebuild.

Sorry if some pedophile, or incense waver told you differently.

The average person burns a lot of fossil fuel in pursuit of climbing.

There’s a lot of noise pollution at the crags these daze…

“C’mon man, go for it! You’ve got it!”
“No! Left hand up first! Get the finger lock then step up the right foot. Do the spinorama, clip and yer done.”
“Hey.. Keep the rope tight, I don’t want to have to do that part again.”
“This is so rad! I can’t believe I did that!”
“Damn, I did this before no problem. These shoes suck!”
“No worries man, I’ve got you!”
“Falling!”
“Oh man, if you can hear me squeeze my finger!”

Rampant chalk use, and spewing.

Yeah, and growing up climbing-by-the-dots only to be gobsmacked by the utter unworldliness of it all their first time on a line with no chalk (or tape) - I mean, how exactly the f*#k do people even do it?

As stated above - human population is the pretty much the only environmental problem that really matters over the long haul.

Re: Overpopulation.

I have been on this bandwagon for 50 years, and I think it underlies most environmental problems.

That said, I think most people do not appreciate what has happened, which is a DRAMATIC drop in fertility rates worldwide, where the average number of children/woman has dropped from about 6 to less than 3.

This translates into a plateau of the number of children at about the current number of 2 billion. The projected number in 50 years......is 2 billion.

Here is a great 10 minute TED talk on why this is, and the documentation:

The facts do tend to prove we are an invasive detriment to the balance of things.
Where can we make the most beneficial changes? China limit, no more births in unsustainable regions? Who would be the arbitrator ?

Toilet paper.

Growing up in North Idaho I saw great forests mowed down just to wipe our asses.

We need to figure out a better way.
