I'm sure you're not interested in my review... which seemed to cause a flap when I posted it previously... so much so that I took it down since it was taken with such umbrage.
Good luck on your quest...

Better than Cats!
That's hilarious. I just watched the Sixth Sense and that is one of the best lines in that movie.

Review what????
I drove by this circus almost every day going climbing.
Two guys went climbing on El Cap with a huge pile of gear.
The only reason it went viral is because some fools chopped their pitch and sh!t on their rope and heckled the sh!t out of em.
Then the two guys made it sound like every local climber was in on it.
"Valley boys" all were in on it.
Such bullsh!t. I had nothing to with that circus at all.
Then years later another two people did the second ascent while being filmed.
All while in those years tons of stuff was being done in that Valley.
Assault on El Capitan just small side show.
The name "Assault on El Capitan" is an insult.
Would you Assault your mother ....?

I am not a big wall climber, I don't know the history of this effort let alone in any detail, I haven't followed the Wings of Steel threads here at the Taco at all. That said, I am a climber and really enjoyed watching the film. I watched it last night on amazon. What I loved most of all was the soulful, very articulate and thoughtful philosophizing by everyone in the interviews that as a climber and overall adventure sports enthusiast I could totally relate to. What a great bunch of guys! Thanks for putting this together. Proud of you all!!
Highly recommend the film. I will recommend it over on amazon.
.....
I guess I missed Ed's review. It's hard to believe
though that Ed could cause a "flap" - esp about climbing!

Lame movie full of hype and false narratives. As Werner said above and I've said here before, these two want everyone to believe all climbers in the valley at the time..., especially all on the rescue site, were involved in the circus. It's a pathetic hollow false narrative, same goes for calling this adventure filmmaking.
No one actually involved in that circus is in the film except Mark and Richard, that alone should make it clear how deep the deceit is trying to mold all the false narratives with a very selective cast leaving out anyone that might question their ridiculous one sided narrative. Very weak!!. Before this movie goes beyond 3 minutes the hype of "death threats" etc. begin, it's just horribly dishonest.
Many previous threads have hysterical reactions to posts here from people like me that were actually there, it's fun to watch all the squirming.
Expect the same usual suspects to repeat the foot stomping tantrums because folks that were actually there explain their side of the story and reject the hype like the absurd death threat jive.

Some how some where in all these threads it gets lost that the film is about Ammon and Kait's second ascent. The controversy and first ascent is a thread in the larger story, it is not THE story, People seem to seize on the sub plot. Ammon and Kait's effort is minimized by this trivial pursuit of the controversy.
Werner: Circus? That declares that there were people standing around watching this act. If no one was there, it was just people doing something in solitude. It seems there was a virtual circus on this forum when A & K were on the 2nd. If it's all so meaningless, why did that happen? And we all just witnessed a true circus on El Cap. Was that a bad thing?
You declare the film which covers a lot of material including Ammon's life as a climber a slide show. What does that make the coverage of one of the hiker rescues you write about? A postage stamp?
Is the title really an insult? Double entendre missed? Satire missed? I guess you're insulted by The Great Gatsby and Apocalypse Now too. Gatsby not that great, and there was no Apocalypse.
I don't and won't defend the choices made while making the film. Reasons for every decision involve many factors. The origins of this film are complex and I have discussed them in Q&A sessions. I have discussed the title, the cast, the idea of the film and the production.
Meaty: Cameras are available. Make your own film, Tell your story. Your articulate writing and mastery of storytelling combined with your clear vision of what an adventure film is should make for a compelling film.
Like you I am a small business person trying to make a living. If you want to hire us to shoot it, we'll do it.

Yes it's a side show.
On any given day there's hundreds of park visitors out doing something in the park.
They all have their own side show going.
You understand now?
I'm looking at the whole picture not just zeroing in on El Cap only like too many of these climber zombies always are.
And that is nothing against you, Mark, Richard, Ammon, Kate who are all good people .....

Yes, there are so many things that go on in the park, our neighborhoods and the world that it could make your head spin. Late winter of 2014 I was climbing with a friend while my two other buddies were taking a day off (they did Watkins in a day the day prior, probably a cool story). They were hanging out in the meadows and heard a bunch of screaming, ran over and discovered a body of an obese guy floating in the river. His whole family was there yelling and pointing. His uncles were there on the side throwing up. So the guys jumped in and pulled him out. He was a really giant Latin dude and when they gave him CPR he had a bunch of alcohol coming out of his mouth. Paramedics came, he didn't make it. The body was packed into the car and the family left the scene with their life taking a huge hit. In 10 minutes there were tourists walking around taking pictures in the same area. No one aside from my buddies knew what just happened there. And the life goes on. Kind of sad if you take it all in. And yes, there are stories out there that are way more dramatic than a few climbers getting their ropes shitted on. Big f*#king deal. I am sure every other living creature had something worse happen to them at one point.
